Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 481 - 443 Speechless Young Master
The number of gravestones was decreasing, and the temperature was falling as well.
The tangible fear had dissipated, but the intangible trepidation was growing.
Kevin and Matt heard faint sounds, like invisible insects dancing their leg joints, crawling in their ears, the chill climbing up their spines and turning into a shiver in their minds.
Even Kevin began to doubt whether he had come up with a rotten idea.
Dew condensed on the short grass, transferring to their boots and adding to the cold they felt.
"Young... young master, I... I feel something watching us."
"That’s... that’s good, isn’t it? It... it means our trip wasn’t in vain!"
After walking a bit farther, Matt stopped, leaving only one person’s footsteps to be heard. The leading Kevin stopped too.
"Um, Matt, are you alright? Are you still behind me?" Kevin slowly, slowly...
"Young master! I’m fine! Don’t look back!" Matt’s loud outcry, but his shrill tone betrayed his master’s unease. The clanging of metal striking metal came from behind Kevin.
Matt was drawing his sword.
Kevin obediently didn’t look back, "Matt, Matt, are you alright? Is there a problem?"
"No, young master, the problem is on your side." Guard Matt stared intensely at his young master’s back, a vague, translucent shadow lying on Kevin’s back like a lover, their transparent face overlapping with Kevin’s shoulder. A gesture of affection that thousands of maidens named Cassandra couldn’t achieve, had been done by a ghost.
"Master Kevin, there’s ’something’ on your back."
As if splashed with cold water, his young master shuddered, taking a step to regain his stance.
It was nothing at first, but once Matt mentioned it, Kevin also felt something on his back, like a hand, furry and soft to the touch, moving across it.
Ignorance is indeed bliss.
"What... what should we do!"
Matt took a deep breath, "Young master, don’t move for now. I’ll approach slowly, and your abilities will surely draw the ghost’s attention to me. Once I’m possessed, you run for it."
"Matt! Are you out of your mind?" Kevin was lucky, perhaps that was why the ghost hadn’t acted yet. But Matt was just an ordinary man, who would even turn into an unlucky fellow once he got close to Kevin. That made his fate obvious.
"Of course I value my life! But young master’s life is thousands, millions of times more precious than mine. Please allow me to fulfill a knight’s oath!" Matt, bearing a great cause, charged forward with his sword raised.
But his enemy, slipped away.
To be precise, Kevin, who was shouldering the ghost, slipped away.
Master and servant ran forward together, the distance between them not closing at all.
Mata shouted and swung his sword from behind, with only their voices echoing in the dense forest.
"Young master, have you lost your mind? Why are you running!"
"Stupid Matt, I’m saving your life. It’s better if I take the ghost!"
"Master, stop fooling around! I’m really getting angry!"
"Then get angry! What can you do to me!"
"Aghhhhh!" Matt, anxious to protect but rejected by his master, was truly infuriated, and he could only rage impotently, swinging his sword. In armor, he couldn’t keep up with Kevin in his casual clothes, while his young master’s life was in the hands of that leisurely ghost.
"Ahhh, Kevin, you wretched boy, I won’t let you off even as a ghost!"
"I know! I’m saving myself right now! Matt! You dare to commit regicide! When I get back, I’m going to complain to the old man!"
"Just let me catch you! Kevin! I’ll personally tie you up and hand you over to the Baron, and hand him the horsewhip!"
"Hiss, that damn Matt, I’ll remember this, you’re not going to have it easy later on!"
Master and servant continued their chase, running yet another stretch of distance.
The young master was always a young master. Even playing around vigorously couldn’t compare to the stamina of a trained knight. Wearing full armor and still running so fast, he was like a beast.
I just want it to end quickly.
Out of breath, Kevin looked up at the starless sky through the leaves, his mind wandering endlessly during the intervals of his panting.
"Young master, stop running! Look ahead!" Matt’s voice was filled with a plea, his footsteps quickened, squeezing out his last bit of strength.
In front of the two, a delicate little girl in black, with rosy cheeks and wide eyes, appeared out of nowhere. Upon seeing Kevin, she flashed a look of surprise and joy, opening her little arms and trotting towards him.
"Did you come to see me? I’m so happy!"
What made Matt even more desperate was that his master, as if possessed, began sobbing at the sight of the little girl, rushing toward her frantically.
"My little treasure, I’ve really missed you!"
"Young master! This is a graveyard! Don’t be fooled!!! None of your matchmaking prospects are little girls!!!!!"
It was over; his young master was completely bewitched. With wolves in front and tigers behind, it seemed they would meet their end here today.
In the face of dire straits, some people collapse at a single punch, while others unleash the potential of life.
"Ahhhhhh, do not harm my lord!!!!!"
Knight Matt, charging forth.
His superior blade, like an unfallen flag, the warrior charged valiantly forward, unbelievably overtaking Kevin.
"Monster! Your life is mine!!!!!"
In Matt’s eyes, there was only the dangerous little girl.
As expected! That adorable little thing was just a monster in disguise. Faced with his blade, the monster revealed her true form.
From her petite body, countless tentacles burst forth, like foul ink corrupting the sky, pulsating thin tendrils that, in a perverse way, lent the creature a certain beauty.
A woman’s form manifested within the tendrils, her open arms revealing razor-sharp claws.
And the most terrifying of all was the giant eye on her chest, black and red, like a key unlocking a door to fear in the heart of all who beheld it.
Truth be told, Matt thought that his past self would have certainly been scared out of his wits by now, but his current self was different.
The hand gripping the sword remained steady, his young master still behind him! Now, I must be able to do it! I must be able!!!!
A tentacle twisted into a fist and knocked down the meddling Matt with a punch. Nia, laughing heartily, transformed into a giant net and pounced toward Kevin.
"Kevin! Nia’s missed you so much! I’ve missed the barbecues at Kevin’s place!!!"
Kevin looked regretfully at the fallen Matt, feeling helpless. He had said it, to keep away from me.
But now, he wasn’t faring much better.
Nia’s unfurled body, like a huge wave, lashed fiercely against Kevin.
Kevin was instantly knocked to the ground, swallowed by the black mudslide, which then bore the impression of his agonized face on its surface!
"I’m suffocating! Nia! Nia!!!"
"You damn girl, can’t you pull your punches! I felt like I was almost smashed to pieces!"
