Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 466 - 428: The Tide of Evolution
"The King of Magic is Scholar Sir!!!"
"Damn it, is the City of Wandering’s foundation this terrifying!"
"What should I do, did I overdo it, am I going to be settled by the two major Magic Research Societies!!!"
"No, I haven’t graduated from my magic classes yet! Can I apply to change professors!!"
Panic erupted among the Liches and some, not being careful, lost their grip and fell from the bone scaffolds they had set up.
The dignity of the King of Magic initially did not shock the Andrei Liches much, as the professors from the Lich Academy were not much inferior. It was like watching the bloody scene of a lion tearing apart its prey through a television set, where the Liches only felt the joy of watching a fire from the other side of the river.
And then, the lion jumped out of the screen.
Irene was a scholar from Andrei Academy.
The prestige of a scholar at Andrei, not to mention the two major magic societies, any Lich that had touched upon magic research was his student and had attended his lectures.
The enemy is our own big shot!
The Liches at Andrei, who were acting recklessly, were like students who vandalized the front door of their homeroom teacher’s house. The teacher just watched them vandalize silently, saying nothing, but it was that silence, the most terrifying, that turned into a dark cloud in the mischievous students’ hearts because the unknown punishment was the most frightening.
The Liches were in utter chaos, and other races, too, were stunned by the continuous assaults.
Powerful ability holder + Andrei = a natural disaster waiting to erupt at any moment.
Those from the chaotic side who dealt often with the Liches got cold feet, while those from the side of order had already envisioned the scene of the City of Wandering owned by the ’An’s.
The murmurs of the crowd did not interrupt Irene, who continued his observation.
Magic chains pierced through Yino’s flesh everywhere, completely sealing off the possibility to mobilize magic power. After a cautious inspection, the scholar then turned his gaze to Carlos’s face.
The wind of magic power unveiled the Lord of the City’s hood, and the scholar saw Carlos’s lifeless eyes, controlled by mental force.
With a sigh of resignation, the scholar approached his own child.
"Even though you are already a master of teleportation, your mental resistance is so fragile. How can you be so silly, my child? Although the deep abyss’s power can indeed tempt the heart, but... you really need to retake Magic Studies with me."
The scholar extended his will deep into Carlos’s mind, undoing the multiple traps set there. A single misstep would have plunged him into an abyssal mental trap from which there was no escape. The scholar’s consciousness strolled unhurriedly through it, and not only that, but he also devoted part of his attention to the imprisoned Yino. He was certain his seal was flawless, yet the power of the Evil God was always something worth being vigilant about.
Yino’s face was somber, his eyes hidden by his shining blond hair, telling a tale of despondency and unwillingness in his immobile body.
"Liar"
The whisper echoed once more in Lyle’s mind. Lyle was still wondering why he could hear his own name when suddenly, without any sign, something changed.
The scholar shattered the numerous traps in Carlos’s mind and at last found his child’s soul.
"Carlos, it’s okay now..."
"No! Father! Run!!!!" Carlos’s soul, breaking free from the bonds, rushed toward the scholar’s consciousness. Just as Irene noticed his agitated look, that face so similar to his own shattered in the very next instant.
Carlos’s mental space collapsed.
The scholar quickly undid the magic and returned to reality.
"Carlos!!!"
Facing his father’s barely concealed roar of rage, the Lord of the City’s face fragmented, and deep blue tentacles, like deadly fangs, pounced on the scholar. Carlos’s remorse remained forever imprinted on the torn flesh.
"I am very sorry, father."
Blood splattered, Carlos burst into pieces that filled the sky.
Watching his own child die gruesomely right before his eyes, "No! No! No!!!"
The scholar trembled as he looked on, his powerful spiritual power allowing him to perceive the world more clearly, and it also allowed him to feel acutely the pain of each droplet belonging to his own child.
The defensive mechanism covering his body, without the control of its owner, unfolded automatically, as the wind of magic power smashed the flesh monster trying to harm the scholar.
"No! No!! No!!! Stop!!!!!"
Watching his own child being shattered by his power, the scholar howled in despair, the defensive barrier disengaged by the King of Magic, blood raining down on him, his robes sullied by the flesh and blood of his kin, his clenched hands as if touching the fading life of Carlos.
"My child!! My Carlos!!"
The grief-stricken scholar staggered, and in his chest, a sinister blue bone spur, like the battering ram of a ship of terror, shattered his precious gem and pierced his spine.
The blood and bones of his kin connected to the man in agony, carrying through them the corrupting curse of the blasphemy god.
"Roar!!!!"
A pained dragon roar soared to the heavens, a magic dragon materialized from the surging magic power, wailing sorrowfully above the City of Wandering.
The magic power tinged with color, the filthy force of corruption like a rising tide eroding the magic dragon.
The chains shattered, and the imprisoned demon grabbed his spoils of war.
The City of Wandering shook violently, the city moaning as everything crumbled, as if the end of days had arrived.
The Arcane Eye twitched madly, its ultimately warped and defiled gaze fixated on the scholar being slowly eroded.
This city had become the prison of the King of Magic.
Yino smiled as tentacles poured from the fatal gash on his body, maintaining his perfect visage.
"Dragon Priest Morocoy, humanoid magic network node, this surging Magic Power is both your strength and your weakness," he said.
"Magic network nodes are very easy to control, as they are tools by nature. Respected Mr. Energy Source," replied another.
"Arrogance is a common flaw among the mighty. You trust your abilities too much."
Yino manipulated the City of Wandering’s magic network nodes, establishing a Magic Power connection with Mr. Scholar, who lost his ability to move and became the world’s most powerful source of Magic Power.
Enduring the erosion, the Dragon Priest struggled to lift his head, staring at that gentle face, and from the depths of his soul, he squeezed out that name with difficulty.
"Nia..."
A sharp arrow struck the barrier, right in front of Yino.
Yino turned his head to look at Twilight Memories in full combat gear.
Echel drew his bow with force, bellowing angrily.
"You have made the worst choice, young man. You chose to be our enemy, and we will not hand over our homeland without a fight," he roared.
All races were eager and prepared to tear the usurper before them to shreds.
"Hahahahahaha..."
Facing the hostile gazes, Yino laughed gracelessly.
"Why do you think I want this city? Can’t you see? What I truly want... is already in my hands," he said.
Yino, like a proud collector, displayed his possessions.
Magic Power, the mighty Magic Power converging from two major magic network nodes, tainted with a torrent of blue corruption, flowed terrifyingly throughout the city.
Corrupted dragons and twisted arcane eyes turned the city into a toy in Yino’s hands.
"Come, become my audience and witness my... Divine Power."
The sky changed color, growing dark and oppressive, the air filled with a dank, salty moisture. But soon, everyone felt a suffocating sensation, as if the sky had become the deep sea, the City of Wandering sinking into the abyssal tide.
In Lyle’s mind, that voice let out a frustrated roar, something within straining to tear through fragile flesh and break free. It was only Nia’s quick wrapping around Lyle’s body that kept the anomaly to cursing and headaches.
Lyle looked ahead in a daze, everything appearing as if in a dream.
Behind Yino, a towering figure emerged from the darkness.
Twisted limbs of octopus tentacles, a cloak woven with glowing seaweed that twisted coral tentacles poked out of, and a mask made of dense barnacles.
The deep-sea giant let out a piercing screech, bringing a suffocating fear upon every witness.
In a trance, Lyle saw Yino’s gesture; he bowed slightly toward himself.
"I am the destined star," Yino proclaimed.
Yino spread his arms wide, welcoming his followers like a deity.
The deep-sea giant manipulated the tide of Magic Power, displaying his might to all.
"First lock, bringer of the plague."
The deep-sea plague spread through the Magic Power, bringing a despairing pestilence down upon the entire city.
"Second lock, flesh rebellion."
Flesh turned on its hosts like active parasites, both ethereal entities and rocks sprouted writhing, twisted tentacles.
"Third lock, heretical growth."
Bone spurs pierced through flesh like proud stamens bursting from blooming flowers. The corrupted lost their races, becoming the same, wailing, twisted creatures.
"Fourth lock, liberation of spirit."
The tide of madness engulfed everything; reason and emotion dissolved, leaving only twisted beings tearing at each other in the broken city.
Yino, the creator of it all.
The sole purity in filth, the only light in the darkness.
He closed his eyes, then opened them.
Revealing those bright eyes that harbored stars.
"It’s finally time to officially meet, Mr. Lyle," he said.
"You may call me by my name, Serio."
