Academic gathering with a lich-Chapter 137 - 132 President of the Magic Research Society, Kagami
Lyle and the scholar appeared in his gloomy study.
Ignoring Lyle’s hesitation, the scholar directly opened his wardrobe and began to don his magic lock equipment.
Listening to the sound of chains wrapping around the scholar, it was like watching a demon spread its wings.
As Nia’s tentacles intertwined around him, Lyle started to feel apprehensive, and the scholar was very serious.
"Teacher, are we going to use force directly?"
"No, that is the last resort, but I need to prepare first. We also need to consider how to evade the school’s accountability afterward."
"So, what do we do now?"
"We need to find ourselves a lawyer," the scholar replied earnestly, his response rendered even more bizarre by the mask he wore.
"Huh? What did you just say?"
"If a dispute arises, consult a lawyer and seek advice on possible solutions. Tailor the teaching to the student’s capability, use everything to its fullest potential."
Something didn’t seem quite right.
With such doubts, Lyle and the floating scholar walked onto the streets of Andrey’s ancient castle.
Before the two stepped through the teleportation gate, the scholar laid out the details.
"Plague Doctor, until we reach our destination, you must always call me teacher, not my codename, which is the scholar," said the scholar.
Lyle nodded, "Why, teacher?"
The scholar looked towards the dark teleportation gate as if he could see the corridor on the other side.
"The Witch’s methods of searching and cursing are based on names..."
"...I understand, teacher."
Thus, one walked on the ground, a shadow with black tentacles waving behind, and the other floated in the air, adorned with silver chains, like monsters from urban legends roaming the corridors of Andrey. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Teacher, do you still need to be invisible?"
"To avoid the vision of some familiars."
"Should I keep my mouth shut and stop communicating?"
"No need, they’ll treat you as a madman talking to himself late at night. Their prejudice is as severe as their worship."
"....."
The two stopped in a location that was somewhat familiar to Lyle.
The foggy gate in front of them was as blurry as when he first saw it, the sprayed mist resembling dry ice, with a silver mirror in the center adorned with jeweled frames.
Noticing the presence of someone, the magic mirror began to speak brashly.
"Who’s bothering Your Lordship, the mighty magic mirror now! No matter who you are, if you don’t compliment me to satisfaction tonight, don’t even think about entering... Teacher?!!!!!!"
The hazy white fog began to dissipate, and the scholar’s aqua-blue mask was reflected on the surface of the magic mirror.
Mr. Jing tapped the mirror’s surface with his index finger.
"Mirror, is there some new trend in Andrey that I’m not aware of? Why do you society leaders all seem to fancy watching gates now?"
Crack, crack, the surface of the magic mirror was covered in cracks, as if it was about to shatter to pieces the next second.
Lyle believed that the aforementioned Mr. Jing was also about to crack at this moment.
Then, the hanging magic mirror was smashed to bits by a white-gloved hand that emerged from behind the fog gate.
A man wearing a pristine white mask emerged from the misty portal. He kicked the fragments of the Magic Mirror with his foot and bowed to the scholar.
"It’s been a long time, teacher. This is just a small trinket I made, using only my simulated personality, and it only sounds like me. I’m very sorry if I seemed neglectful just now. Welcome back to the Magic Research Society, teacher. Let’s hurry inside."
Mr. Jing entered the misty portal with a compensatory smile, leading the two inside.
Behind the portal was a world under a clear sky with a still lake.
The lake became a vast water mirror, reflecting everything above it.
Devoid of gravity’s pull, the three floated above the lake’s surface.
Many glowing mirrors spun in the air, looking into them revealed different rooms. Some people were transcribing books, others were mixing Magic Potions, and some were practicing Magic Curses.
Lyle marveled at the wonder and vastness of this world.
"Six locks, Jing, you’ve become stronger."
Mr. Jing smiled, and with a snap of his fingers, countless mirrors materialized around them, each reflecting Jing’s image.
Jing and all the mirror images bowed to the scholar, "That’s all thanks to the teacher’s excellent guidance."
The scholar chuckled softly.
"That’s because you’ve found yourself, Jing."
Master and apprentice were filled with joy, without a trace of the previous awkwardness.
Nia grew curious about the lake surface below her, and a black tentacle reached towards it.
Below the mirror, Nia’s reflection also extended a hand, but right before their tips touched, Nia’s reflected tentacle emerged from the lake surface and wrapped around her actual one.
Ripples appeared on the lake, fracturing the once flawless mirror surface and Nia’s reflection.
Mr. Jing watched, still smiling.
"The mirror reflects our other side, please don’t attempt to touch them. It wouldn’t be good if a Mirror Demon were to replace you."
Lyle nodded, and Nia wrapped all her tentacles around him.
"Teacher, did you come back to reclaim the title of president of the society?"
"Not at all, Jing," the scholar’s chains grazed the lake’s surface, tapping on Jing’s head, "Why do you look so hopeful? Is the job of president a burden to you, when you’ve been doing quite well?"
"Because I’m just imitating you, teacher. Every time I realize I’ve become the president of the Magic Research Society, I always worry that I’ll mess things up. I still miss the days when I used to play pranks."
"Hmph, then I suppose I did one thing right, you unambitious lad."
Jing just laughed carelessly, "Teacher, please come back. Everyone at the Magic Research Society will be very happy."
"Can you defeat Apocalypse now?"
Jing shuddered for a moment, and even the entire Mirror World experienced a slight tremor. Jing rubbed the back of his head, "Your return doesn’t seem so urgent after all."
Lyle saw the scholar’s hand clench and then relax.
"By the way, teacher, did you come here for anything in particular?" Jing shifted the focus before the scholar could get angry.
"I’m looking for Code of Law, is he around?"
"Right here, right here, I’ll call him immediately."
Jing extended his arm toward the spinning mirrors in the air and made a grasping motion. The mirrors flew to him like a flock of large playing cards. He searched through the multitude of images for his target, but eventually, he gave up. Jing clenched his palm into a fist and punched the air in front of him, sending ripples that reached all the mirrors. Lyle watched as the figures in the mirrors swayed due to the tremors.
"Code of Law! Code of Law! Come out! Come out!"
Before long, a burly figure clutching an ink-splattered book strode out angrily. "Jing, you’ve really angered me now. My year’s work compiling the Code of Law, look what you’ve done! You’re dead meat! I’m telling you, nobody, not even a god, can save you now... Teacher?!!"
