Abyss Sequence-Chapter 482 - 57: Infiltration
Roger sat in the soft office chair, suddenly feeling inexplicably agitated.
He immediately noticed it and became alert.
As a Saint, an undeniably powerful figure, Roger knew his intuition couldn't be wrong.
Something had its sights on him, and that thing could potentially harm him; that's why he felt this way.
"Is it a demon?" Roger muttered to himself.
He had been systematically assassinating the upper echelons of the cult, racing against time. But among them, some were clever enough to sense something amiss and quickly realized it might be Roger who was clearing them out.
So, the upper echelons of the cult, who mastered the art of demon summoning, summoned a demon, hoping it would protect them.
However, even the summoner himself didn't expect that upon being summoned, the demon, after hearing the summoner's 'command,' would simply laugh and smack the summoner to death.
The summoner's elders might have told him things like 'demons will follow the summoner's orders,' but unfortunately, there are no such easy bargains in this world.
After the demon killed the summoner, it wanted to collect other souls, but Roger found it and eliminated it.
Besides the demon, there were two others on the surface who posed a threat to Roger, but neither had any reason to fight him, so Roger didn't bother to think about them.
He also learned from the United Government about the demons' ability to mark, knowing that once a demon was summoned, it could mark the world it arrived in.
Since a demon had already been summoned in Celestial City, Roger believed it was very likely that the demon would appear in this wicked city.
Because the Evil God of Blue Star was about to be born, if the demons, as described by Yan Luo, were to assist in the birth of the Evil God, they would certainly arrive at Blue Star at this critical juncture.
Unexpectedly, even after wiping out the upper echelons of the cult, he couldn't find peace.
However, if the demon comes, so be it. This sinful city is destined for destruction; a little more sin wouldn't matter now.
Yet, Roger was unaware that his sudden restlessness wasn't because of the demon, but because of Yan Luo.
Celestial City resembled a piece of land suspended in space, with the ground curved like a half eggshell, skyscrapers towering above, and mechanical structures below. These mechanical structures weren't directly exposed to the air, but like the residential areas above, they were covered with domes. However, unlike residential areas, which require more activity space, the mechanical structure areas only needed shells to block cosmic dust.
As a result, the underside of Celestial City appeared like an inverted mechanical mountain range.
Yan Luo opened an entrance in the shell and quietly entered.
The hacker had already mapped out a route for him; they would control all the cameras along this route to ensure Yan Luo wouldn't be caught on any of them.
The reason Yan Luo needed to do this was that he planned to launch a sneak attack on Roger Wilson.
After all, that man had become a Saint decades ago, his strength extraordinary. Yan Luo wasn't confident he could surely defeat him.
Thus, he had to find a way to increase his chances of success—by any means necessary!
Being a Hunter, Yan Luo knew how to ambush his prey, and now, with the hacker's help, he could conceal his presence and approach Roger Wilson without alerting him.
Even if discovered by the Celestial City's network maintenance team, the hacker could quickly separate himself from his companions, sacrificing his own movements to conceal theirs.
Hackers generally wouldn't undertake such dangerous acts, but that's just 'generally.'
Yan Luo had spent a great deal, and even if they no longer continued as hackers, the money he gave them would suffice for their lifetime.
Because of this, those hackers were willing to go all out, even sacrificing their own traces to cover their companions' actions.
Yan Luo traversed through the mechanical structures beneath Celestial City, while the route projected on his eyepiece changed from time to time.
As a vast space city, Celestial City was under constant maintenance, and many engineers were navigating the underground sections.
The hacker's route needed to change because engineers were active along Yan Luo's path, and he needed to avoid them if he didn't want to be discovered.
Aided by the hacker, Yan Luo moved through the complex 'mechanical city' unnoticed.
Soon, Yan Luo pushed open a manhole cover, arriving at the ground level of Celestial City.
Aside from the ground being made of steel, the city appeared similar to other cities on the surface, with skyscrapers everywhere, seemingly leaving no room for the lower class to live.
Yan Luo took a deep breath and flashed, soon appearing outside the wall of a residential building.
With his feet on the outer wall of the skyscraper, Yan Luo headed for the rooftop.
Celestial City required maintenance, and those wealthy and noble individuals wouldn't lower themselves to do such jobs. Purely relying on intelligent machinery wouldn't suffice to maintain a city this large. Therefore, there were places for 'lower-class citizens' in this city.
The area where Yan Luo was currently located was designated for 'lower-class citizens' by the wealthy, situated on the outer side of the city. If the mechanical dome above Celestial City had an issue, this would be the first place affected.
Even though considered inferior in Celestial City, those living there felt a sense of pride for being in a space city, far from the harassment of demons and mutated creatures, even if it meant doing the dirtiest and hardest work.
Where there are lower-class citizens, there are naturally upper-class citizens.
The structure of Celestial City is divided into three layers from the inside out. The innermost is Eden, where the wealthy reside; next is the Tower of Babel for upper-class citizens, managing company operations for the rich and housing their servants; the outermost layer is unnamed but sarcastically called 'the world' by the lower-class citizens.
Yan Luo stood on the top floor of 'the world,' manipulating the magnetic field to bend light, making his figure vanish from sight, ensuring he wouldn't be seen by the naked eye. However, he still made sounds while moving, which is why he avoided the engineers maintaining Celestial City when he was underground.
The hacker informed Yan Luo through the terminal that Roger Wilson was currently in the Falls Group Building, most likely on the top floor of the building.
The Falls Group Building is the tallest structure in Celestial City, offering views of every corner of the city from its top.
So, Yan Luo glanced toward the city's center and then hurried toward that building.
"Hmm?"
Sitting in his top-floor office, Roger felt a sense of being watched, and just as he was about to shift his gaze, it vanished.
"Interesting..."
Roger chuckled, realizing the demon had indeed set its sights on him.
His previous restlessness stemmed from sensing the demon's scheme, hence the strange feeling.
"Since you've set your sights on me, I'll wait for you here." Roger spoke to the empty space in front of him.
He thought the demon might be able to hear him.
..........
"What? Yan Luo went to Celestial City?!"
On the surface, Sasa was as if struck by lightning. Upon hearing this news from Yulia, her heart seemed to skip a beat. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Sasa took a deep breath, furrowing her brow as she looked at Yulia sitting opposite her, clenching her fist, "That guy... didn't even say a word to us before leaving!"
Hearing this, Yulia shook her head with a smile, "He was worried you guys would try to persuade him, and worried he might listen to your advice, which is why he left for Celestial City without telling you."
Standing by, Wang Lingyu fell into deep silence.
She felt very upset because Yan Luo left without saying anything, which actually showed his trust in them.
As Yulia said, Yan Luo left directly because he feared he might heed their persuasion.
Yan Luo is a man of firm determination, rarely swayed by others once he's made a decision, with only those closest to him having a chance to change his mind.
But now that Yan Luo has gone... can he come back?
Roger Wilson, who became a Saint decades ago, was beyond Wang Lingyu's imagination in strength.
Could Yan Luo really win while fighting Roger?
