Abyss Sequence-Chapter 433 - 8: Outbreak
As Yan Luo and the others had anticipated, Mayin City encountered trouble.
And it happened precisely when the human caravan arrived.
The moment the truck began unloading, the driver noticed an elf responsible for transporting goods suddenly cancel their magic, causing a pile of heavy cargo to crash to the ground.
The people and elves saw this and didn’t blame him. Instead, they surrounded him, asking the elf who was clutching his head what happened and if he was sick.
The elf couldn’t respond to their inquiries. He felt a splitting headache, which was unbearable.
Watching the elf change from a squatting position to lying on the ground and banging his head against the floor, others panicked and hurriedly dragged the severely aching elf, preventing him from hitting his head on the ground.
Elves who had learned healing magic immediately cast spells on the ’sick’ elf and gently inquired about his physical condition.
Though treated, his body felt much lighter, the headache remained.
"Kairos, you should go back and rest today."
The lead elf patted the elf enduring the severe headache on the shoulder, advising him to go and rest. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Kairos did not insist. He nodded, ready to get up to leave.
But at that moment, he was horrified to discover his body was no longer under his control.
Kairos wanted to open his mouth to seek help but saw ’his’ hand rise, beginning to stir the magic power within him.
’No! Don’t!’
Kairos didn’t know what was happening to him. He wanted to stop things from getting worse, but he couldn’t do anything, only watch as flames ignited in his hand, flying towards the concerned leader staring at him.
No one expected it; they couldn’t react until the fireball exploded on the leader elf, and then they screamed.
"Kairos, are you crazy?!"
"What are you doing?"
"Quick! Restrain Kairos!"
Everyone present, whether truck drivers or elves, acted immediately, with some rushing to rescue the leader and others to subdue Kairos.
However, suddenly several elves cried out in pain.
They showed symptoms similar to those Kairos had exhibited, clutching their heads, enduring unbearable pain.
Someone immediately noticed something unusual, realizing this was not an isolated incident.
Kairos was not mad; he was simply sick or under some control.
And now—
Similar incidents continued to occur throughout the city!
The earliest elves parasitically infected lost control of their bodies; if their optic nerves were not directly connected to the brain, they might have even lost their sight.
But this, for them, was the most painful thing.
Controlled elves could only watch themselves suddenly attack, killing their relatives, lovers, children, and friends, helplessly!
The once peaceful Mayin City fell instantly, with nearly one percent of elves parasitically controlled, attacking the elves around them.
They didn’t shout any slogans, appearing unlike any zealots.
No elf had foreseen this event, so when the controlled elves initiated attacks, many lives were lost.
As a powerful Sequence One individual, Yulia immediately sensed the chaos in Mayin City and leapt from a moving armored vehicle, rushing to an elf on the street preparing to kill another elf.
Whether it was a delusion or not, Yulia felt the elf showed a grateful gaze before she knocked them out.
But this was just the first incident happening around Yulia; she soon heard screams and cries coming from other places.
Not just in one place, similar incidents were happening in many places!
As an experienced and seasoned Hunter, after a brief consideration, Yulia quickly made a decision.
"Phew!"
Yulia exhaled a long breath of white fog; frost silently spread beneath her feet and then rapidly expanded.
The cold surged from Yulia in all directions, where the cold passed, a layer of white frost crept up on the ground and eaves, and everything living was sealed within a thin layer of ice.
The freezing enveloped a city housing a million elves in just three minutes, transitioning from wailing screams to complete silence in merely three minutes.
Not only Mayin City, but even the river surface was coated with ice, quickly disrupted by the rushing water.
Yulia surveyed all around; now, only she was able to move within the city.
All humans and elves were sealed within thin ice, like lifelike ice sculptures.
"Damn, what’s going on here..."
Yulia cursed softly, retrieving a cigarette and lighter from her pocket, lighting a cigarette for herself.
After lighting the cigarette, Yulia took just a single puff before leaving it hanging from her lips, gazing around her in bafflement.
This was her first time fully displaying the power of Sequence One; she froze an entire city but didn’t kill a single living thing.
Yulia could feel her consciousness spreading with the dispersal of magic, easily creating an effect capable of safeguarding all remaining living beings.
With the ability to freeze them, naturally, Yulia could also thaw them, except they were now in a ’semi-hibernation’状态, capable of awakening upon thawing.
Yulia didn’t know what was happening in the city; she dared not casually thaw any human or elf.
In case the humans were also affected, wouldn’t she have to find a way to resolve them?
After thinking it over, Yulia floated off the ground, flying towards the Lord’s Mansion.
In Elvish, the term ’Lord’ represents the wisest elf within a territory; in that case, the Lord of Mayin City might have some clues.
Yulia arrived at Mayin City Lord’s Mansion, wandering around inside, searching for the Lord’s whereabouts.
Fortunately, the Mayin City Lord learned of the human caravan’s arrival and was preparing to meet them. When Yulia saw the Lord, she was just about to step out of a room similar to an office.
And was then frozen in place by Yulia.
Yulia raised a hand, pointing at the layer of ice on Mayin City Lord’s body, the frost dissipating swiftly.
Mayin City Lord shivered, abruptly awakening.
She looked around the corridor enveloped entirely in ice and snow, then back at the closing yet frozen door behind her, looking incomprehensibly at the human standing beside her.
"Who are you..."
Yulia smiled slightly: "Yulia Ivanovna Bilyukova."
Mayin City Lord glanced around again, "This is..."
"I did it!"
Yulia suddenly restrained her smile, seriously explaining to the Mayin City Lord the events occurring within the city.
After listening, the Lord’s face became extremely stern.
She couldn’t comprehend what Yulia said because if it were an isolated case with one elf, it could be explained as illness; if ten elves had such occurrences, they might be under some control.
But now, it wasn’t an issue of one or ten elves; problems appeared all over the city.
When Yulia was searching for the Lord, she discovered similar occurrences within the Lord’s Mansion.
When the Lord followed Yulia to the ’scene of the crime,’ she saw fragments of an elf’s body strewn across the ground.
Before seeing the body, the Mayin City Lord still harbored some unrealistic fantasies, thinking Yulia might deceive her, but upon seeing the corpse, she could no longer delude herself.
"Why has this happened..." The Lord closed her eyes in pain.
The body belonged to one of her children, seeing the tattered clothing and half a face on the corpse made her heart feel like it was being scraped by a knife, layer by layer of flesh peeling away.
However, the Lord wouldn’t tell Yulia about this; as the Lord of Mayin City, she had more important matters to handle.
The Mayin City Lord took a deep breath of the cold air, turning to gaze at the ’murderer.’
It was someone she once had high hopes for as a Mansion employee, well-read, on the path to becoming the next Lord.
The Lord’s hands softly caressed the face of the ice-sealed elf, gazing tenderly, whispering: "Mavey, what did you see? Why do you look so... terrified?"
