Abyss Sequence-Chapter 428 - 3: Parasite
Julia stood aside, watching as Sasa gradually dissected a disgusting-looking parasite with the tools at hand, and couldn’t help but feel a shiver down her spine.
——She was even humming a tune!
Is it really that fun to dissect a bug?
Yan Luo, a little farther away, was grilling by the fire—of course, not frog meat; he was rather averse to that frog.
After killing the frog demon, another eagle flew overhead, and Yan Luo chased it down and killed it too.
As Julia had said, there were indeed many city-breaking level demons in this area, almost everywhere.
The demons in the Alfheim Wilderness are materialized creatures, like ordinary beasts; they can reproduce on their own and also need to eat and excrete.
An increase in the number of city-breaking level demons also implies that there are many low-level demons in the area, with a denser distribution than in other parts of the Gass Forest.
Only in this way can such a large number of city-breaking level demons be sustained.
Plucking off all the feathers of the giant eagle, draining its blood, and removing the entrails, Yan Luo put the entire city-breaking level demon into the fire to roast.
To cook a city-breaking level demon by fire, this is what’s needed.
Not only must the demon be enveloped in high heat, but it also requires a considerable amount of time to roast.
Fortunately, Sasa’s dissection also took a while, enough for Yan Luo to cook the entire demon thoroughly.
Almost at the same time as Sasa finished dissecting all the parasites, Yan Luo took the roasted eagle out of the fire, using magnetic field power to slice it instead of a knife.
He sliced the roast meat into pieces thin enough to let light through, placing them on a huge plate, stacked into a mountain.
This portion was for Sasa and Julia. Cut to this extent, even they should be able to digest it.
The amount of meat apportioned to them seemed like a lot, but in reality, it was only one-fiftieth of the giant eagle, with the rest all going to Yan Luo himself.
This was a beast weighing as much as 300 kilograms. Note that the largest eagle in Blue Star’s history did not exceed 100 kilograms, making this demon’s weight more than three times that.
After removing entrails and feathers, the remaining meat wasn’t actually much and couldn’t even fill Yan Luo alone.
The meat of a city-breaking level demon is rich in nutrients. Sasa and Julia sharing this big plate of meat was enough to fill them up.
Sasa took off her exoskeleton, sat on one of the two folding chairs with Julia, and used chopsticks to pick up a piece of meat, dipping it in sauce and eating it heartily.
The meat of a city-breaking level demon indeed had a chewy texture. Sasa had to exert all her strength just to chew the meat thoroughly; luckily, an ordinary human’s stomach acid was equivalent to a diluted version of industrial hydrochloric acid, so digesting these pieces of meat shouldn’t be a problem.
When consuming high-calorie foods, the human body can trigger a pleasurable neural mechanism, so as Sasa ate the slices of meat, she felt a profound sense of happiness.
"So good! I didn’t know the meat of a city-breaking level demon could taste this good!"
Earl...)">
earlier, Sasa was not very healthy; even eating the meat of a dangerous-level demon could pose problems, so she could only eat ordinary, mild foods and couldn’t handle anything too rich.
After becoming a Samurai, Sasa indulgently ate a lot of meat dishes, even trying the meat of a deadly-level demon, but this was her first time eating the meat of a city-breaking level demon.
In fact, it wasn’t just Sasa; it was also Julia’s first time.
Even when the meat’s heat burned her tongue, Julia didn’t stop with the chopsticks, quickly shoveling the roast meat into her mouth.
For both humans and elves, Saint’s Blood grants equal ability to gain superpower by absorbing magic automatically, but Julia discovered that eating demon meat allowed her to absorb an additional bit of magic power, so since being given Saint’s Blood by a saint, Julia had developed a liking for demon meat.
To explore the outside world, she needed at least the rank of General, and currently, she wasn’t even at Master rank, so she had to strive hard.
While Sasa and Julia were still eating, Yan Luo had already finished.
Over a hundred, almost two hundred kilograms of meat all entered Yan Luo’s stomach, and by that time, the giblet soup made from the giant eagle’s entrails was ready too. Yan Luo poured some into bowls for Sasa and Julia before taking the pot and directly pouring the broth and giblets into his mouth.
After all, it was just boiling water; it couldn’t harm Yan Luo.
The aroma of the broth was so enticing that Sasa and Julia couldn’t help but swallow, taking small sips despite the heat.
Even though their tongues were burned, the flavor of the giblet soup filled their mouths, and they picked up another piece of meat, dipped it in sauce, and ate it. It was indeed an unparalleled delight.
Sasa exhaled a breath of hot air, her face beaming with joy.
"Delicious!"
Julia didn’t say anything, just kept eating with gusto.
After nearly half an hour, Sasa and Julia finally finished the roast meat and giblet soup.
Sasa burped, patting her slightly swollen belly, feeling that she might not need to eat for a day or two.
After eating, Sasa started discussing her earlier dissection findings with Yan Luo.
"There was only one parasite in the frog, and it didn’t seem capable of reproducing on its own. I have no clue how it entered the demon, but it seems to have a pretty good growth ability, with its digestive system quickly converting what it eats into nutrients for growth. Although it’s a meter long, I estimate it hasn’t been in the demon for more than a month."
Only one parasite and it can’t reproduce on its own; it doesn’t seem like a naturally occurring entity from any angle.
After hearing Sasa’s words, Julia turned to Yan Luo, asking, "Can you catch more demons from here?"
That wasn’t a problem.
Yan Luo scanned the surroundings and suddenly reached out towards a patch of grass, using magnetic field power to pull out a demon of small stature.
It was a snake, which spat venom at Yan Luo when caught.
The venom was suspended in the air by the magnetic field, not touching Yan Luo’s face.
Yan Luo knew why Julia asked him to catch more demons, so he promptly used the magnetic field to break down the snake’s body.
He was quite kind; instead of dissecting the demon directly, he killed it first before sequentially breaking down the corpse.
The snake’s skin, muscles, nerves, bones, and organs were all parsed and floated clearly separated in the air by Yan Luo.
Inside the snake, there was also a parasite.
Like the parasite from the frog demon, it bore an uncanny resemblance to the legendary Mongolian death worm, except its skin wasn’t red, but white.
Exposed to the air, the parasite immediately began to writhe, trying to escape the force binding it, but how could it possibly break free from Yan Luo’s magnetic field power?
Sasa approached, examined it closely, and murmured, "There really is another... what about the others?"
The latter part of Sasa’s question was directed at Yan Luo.
The frog demon was a city-breaking level demon, while the snake was only an ordinary demon, far from even a dangerous level, yet both contained similar singular parasites, hinting at an issue.
Yan Luo looked toward other places, capturing multiple demons from seemingly unlikely hiding spots, killing them, and decomposing their bodies one by one.
Out of them, five were found with parasites, and two didn’t have any parasites found but had what appeared to be parasite eggs.
Sasa donned her exoskeleton and took the two tiny sand-sized white egg-like objects to examine them for a few minutes before confirming.
"These are parasite eggs!"
Julia became excited and said, "Could these be what’s causing the demon anomalies?"
"No," Sasa and Yan Luo said in unison.
Julia looked at them perplexedly.
Sasa explained, "As you know, our convoy protectors are Hunters. When they eliminated the demons that attacked our team, they broke them down but didn’t find anything like this in their bodies."
Julia was greatly disappointed.
She thought she had stumbled upon a clue to the demon anomalies, yet it turned out to be an unrelated matter.
"Since it isn’t a clue to the demon anomalies, then what are these parasites all about?"
Though unrelated to demon anomalies, what’s happening with these demons is also significant.
Julia had no idea where these parasites originated from, and her memory held no relevant information.
In the short term, these parasites shouldn’t threaten Gass City, but in the long run, demons carrying parasites leaving the depths of the forest might affect Gass City.
Thus, Julia wanted to investigate further along this lead.
