Chapter 3: It comes for all

As he prepared to reveal the final and perhaps most crucial discovery made during his investigation, a great change began to take place in Port Azul.

Outside the house he shared with Lena, headlights streaked through the roads like fireflies in motion. It was just a typical scene until tens of thousands of vehicles mysteriously lost their occupants. Some vehicles were suddenly without passengers, while others lost their drivers.

These fast-moving cars with no one at the wheel were bound to lose control.

As expected some swerved off the road, while others collided with occupied cars, setting off a devastating chain reaction of chaos.

At the same time, two massive passenger planes fell from the sky and crashed into the Iconic Brickhell North and South Towers, twin skyscrapers that stood side by side and were of equal height.

Boom! Boom!

Explosions erupted.

Towering structures collapsed.

Countless lives were tragically lost.

These were clear signs.

The Vanishing had struck Port Azul.

Kev and Lena were blissfully unaware of the catastrophe unfolding in their city as they were too far from the site of the incidents.

Their conversation continued with Kev revealing the most crucial discovery he had made during his investigation.

"The people who vanished left nothing behind."

Lena listened intently, not interrupting Kev as he spoke.

"Their clothes, accessories, everything they were wearing or carrying at the time of their disappearance vanished along with them. I feel like it's pointing to something, but it's like a puzzle I just can't piece together. No matter how hard I think, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe if I keep investigating, I'll figure it out."

"I hope you do," Lena said, wishing him good luck and patting his shoulder.

"Thanks. I needed that." Kev expressed his gratitude for her encouragement before asking, "What about you? You have any plans?"

"I was planning to ask my crush out on a date, but now I no longer feel like doing it. I'm just going to stay home and do something worthwhile," Lena replied.

"That's great, I respect your decision," Kev was glad she refused to stay depressed and wallow in misery.

After making sure she won't do anything drastic, he returned to his room and resumed his investigation.

He sat at his desk and woke his PC from sleep mode.

The screen lit up, displaying a browser already open with several tabs.

For the next few hours, his eyes remained glued to the computer screen, taking in all kinds of stuff the internet users had shared about the Vanishing.

His investigation yielded nothing worthwhile, frustration began to creep into his mind, gnawing at the edges of his patience.

With the threat of vanishing from existence lurking right around the corner, the weight of uncertainty pressed down on him, pushing him toward desperation.

"Is there no way?"

Kev bit his lip hard enough to draw blood.

"I refuse to believe it!"

There had to be a way.

He stuck to what he had been doing.

His thoughts were at an impasse but being a man who didn't know when to give up, he continued searching for anything that could break that deadlock in the one place where knowledge from every corner of the world flowed freely, readily available to anyone seeking it.

"Huh? This..."

Just as he was about to give up, an interesting post on a rundown forum caught his eye. A grin slowly spread across his face as he began to read it.

"This is what I was missing!" he exclaimed, unable to contain his joy.

Unaware that tragedy had struck close to home, he was engrossed in reading the highly insightful post made by an internet user called CrimsonSheWolf.

The post barely had any views, but the content within it was substantial. It was detailed, well-researched, and far more insightful than the flood of panicked speculation dominating the various sites and forums on the internet.

[CrimsonSheWolf]: "According to my understanding, we are not witnessing some supernatural extinction event. Instead, we are experiencing an extremely rare cosmic phenomenon. One that has long been speculated about but never observed firsthand. Scientists refer to it as Space Displacement."

"This theory gained traction after researchers uncovered the shocking truth that humans are not native to Earth. Evidence suggests that, sometime after the last Ice Age ended and the world became warm enough to sustain life, humans suddenly appeared on this planet out of thin air. If that's true, then what's happening now isn't unprecedented. It's just history repeating itself... in reverse. Instead of being thrown into earth from another world, we are being thrown into another world from earth."

CrimsonSheWolf proposed that those who vanished hadn't ceased to exist. Instead, they had been transported to another realm. She called it the alien space.

"Whether this alien space is a paradise or a death trap is unknown. If it's the former, those who disappeared might still be alive. If it's the latter... it's best to assume that most of them are already dead."

"At first glance, what I say might sound extreme, but if you think about it, you'll realize it makes sense."

"Given time, we humans can adapt to even the harshest of conditions. But take that luxury away, strike without warning and throw us into chaos, and we crumble under the pressure. What I'm trying to say is, a person thrust unprepared into a world teeming with hostility won't survive for long. This is especially true for our generation. We grew up in relatively peaceful times, far removed from bloodshed and war. To suddenly demand that we fight, kill, or die... It's too much."

Kev nodded, showcasing he agreed with her on that point. Silently, he continued reading the post.

[CrimsonSheWolf]: "And before you ask, yes, there's a sure fire way to increase your chances of surviving the worst case scenario mentioned by me and I have shared it at the end of this post, so don't stop reading and scroll down!"
