Absolute Death Game-Chapter 301 - 71 The Qilin Attacks
"Don’t go into the game... it’s... alive?" Xiao Buli repeated the last words Liu Xing said before dying, a flash of gravity in his eyes. What exactly did this sentence mean? Could it be that the game itself was alive? Or, was it something within the game that was alive?
He pondered for a long time until a sudden crack of thunder sounded outside the window, jolting him from his thoughts. Looking out, he didn’t know when, but the night sky that had been clear was now covered with dark clouds, and he could see rolling thunderbolts streaking across the sky every now and then.
The wind picked up, whooshing in through the screen outside, and in the blink of an eye, large raindrops began to fall, pattering down and leaving streaks on the glass windows.
Xiao Buli hugged his arms as he watched the pouring rain outside the window, his mood becoming as obscure as if it were shrouded by the dark clouds themselves.
The ringtone of his waterproof phone sounded. He answered the call only to hear a somewhat unfamiliar voice on the other end.
"Hello, is that you, Xiao? I’m Lu Xinying." Lu Xinying’s voice on the phone sounded a bit rushed and faintly excited. Xiao Buli found it strange, wondering when this kid got a hold of his phone number.
He collected himself, trying to shake off the shock from the events in the game, "If it’s about saving Wu Min’er, then don’t bother. I already told you, I don’t have that kind of free time." Discover stories at novelbuddy
Lu Xinying suddenly laughed, a laugh that baffled Xiao Buli.
"Hehehe, of course, it’s not about Wu’s matter. I’m here to warn you, the Qilin Group has found your location."
What! Xiao Buli’s heart chilled, and he quickly looked out the window. Under the torrential downpour, he couldn’t see anything clearly, "How is that possible?" he asked, incredulously thinking how they could have found him so quickly.
"Believe it or not, it’s up to you. I’m just letting you know for Wu’s sake, be careful, they are coming soon."
Beep beep beep beep! The call was disconnected, and Xiao Buli turned off his phone, his mind in turmoil. Regardless of whether it was true or not, he needed to prepare. He was thankful for Lu Xinying’s warning, or else he would have really been in danger.
As he thought about it, he couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty for having previously refused Lu Xinying’s plea for help.
But now wasn’t the time for regrets. He first drew the curtains tightly shut, then Xiao Buli pulled a box out from under the bed.
Ever since he heard that the Qilin Group was after him, Xiao Buli had begun systematically transferring items out of the game. In total, five pieces of equipment had been transferred.
The Flawless White Jade Ring, the Black Dragon Scale Armor, the Windstride Boots, the Water-Repelling Pearl, and the Undead Binding Scepter.
All of them were now taken out and equipped in one go. The Flawless White Jade Ring was warm and without any flaw, emitting a faint white halo, and he slipped it right onto his finger. The Windstride Boots were a pair of ancient-style lightweight leather boots, which he put on immediately, and he felt much lighter on his feet.
The Water-Repelling Pearl was a crystal-clear blue bead, which he kept in his pocket for later use.
The Undead Binding Scepter was a bone-like short staff similar to a magic wand, and the last item was a black dragon scale armor. Contrary to its dark and heavy appearance, this scale armor was incredibly light, lined with a soft yet tough leather material. Xiao Buli had tested it before; no matter how hard he tried to pierce it with a fruit knife, it wouldn’t go through. The leather was covered with shiny, coin-sized black scales, the material of which was a mystery. Xiao had shot at it twice with a handgun, and not a single scratch was left. The armor’s defensive capabilities were a hundred times stronger than bulletproof vests and stab-resistant suits. It was just unknown whether it could withstand bullets from an AK47 or a sniper rifle.
Feeling much more confident with the black dragon scale armor on, Xiao Buli thought of dragons as creatures full of wonders in legends. Wearing an armor made of dragon hide and scales surely carried extraordinary benefits.

Turning back to his computer, the game was still running. He hurried to exit, and since he hadn’t used the Time-Space Order Keeper today, he decided to transport a weapon into reality. Looking at the three swords in his backpack—the Soul Slayer’s Blade, the Blood Drinking Sword, and the Heart Piercer—the Blade of Lament—Xiao Buli hesitated briefly before selecting the third one, the newly acquired silver-quality longsword.
Storing it in the ring space, Buli promptly exited the game, as it seemed the dungeon was already safe from danger. After shutting down the computer, he released the Blade of Lament, which was about one meter long, slender, and semi-transparent, emanating an ethereal color. Drawing the blade from its sheath, it sang a continuous, resonant note that sounded like a long sigh. What a fine sword!
He was admiring it when—ding dong—the sound of a doorbell snapped Xiao back to reality, his gaze shooting toward the door as he went on high alert.
He had no acquaintances here except for Gu Shaobang and a few others. How could anyone be looking for him? Given the warning he had recently received from Lu Xinying, the answer seemed rather obvious.
He lifted the precious sword and cautiously approached.
"Who’s outside?" Xiao Buli asked, pressing against the wall.
"Hello, I have a delivery. Is this Mr. Zhang’s place?"
A delivery? A thought flickered through Xiao’s mind. He had recently ordered some books and blueprints, all meant to be resold in the game. Could this be the delivery? He had used a fake ID to rent the place, and Mr. Zhang was the alias he had employed.
But something wasn’t right! It dawned on him that, even for deliveries, no one would make rounds during a torrential downpour, let alone in the middle of the night. Such an excuse was far too flimsy.
After a moment’s hesitation, Buli decided to play it cool. While holding up the precious sword aimed at the security door, he casually said, "You’ve got the wrong person. This isn’t Mr. Zhang’s place."
"But this is the right address—Building 2, Unit 3, Apartment 1 on the 13th floor," the person outside responded with a voice full of confusion, seemingly very young,
"I’m not Mr. Zhang, and there’s no one by that name here. You should leave," Xiao Buli said again, shifting the longsword towards the source of the voice, targeting the center of the door, ready to thrust forward. Suddenly, the person outside said, "Oh, I see. Damn, what a drag—to come all this way in the pouring rain for nothing." Footsteps sounded as if they were fading away.
Peering through the peephole, Xiao’s pupils constricted.
He stepped back sharply and, in the next moment, the security door blasted open, and a burly man clad in an explosion-proof suit charged in from outside.
(Damn it, it’s really them!)
