Chapter 1621: Chapter 1621: Palace Banquet Assassination

Bai Ruozhu, being close to Tang Feng, noticed his reaction and couldn’t help but glance at Princess Fule. Was it possible that Tang Feng already knew her?

Tang Feng, having lived two lives, quickly regained his composure, but the leisure of before was gone.

"Princess Fule has come from afar. If there’s anything you need, feel free to let the Empress know. Don’t be too polite," the Emperor said with a smile.

The Empress also smiled and said, "Yes, I will arrange for someone to show you around the Capital City in the coming days, so you can experience the local customs."

Princess Fule smiled and curtsied, "Thank you, Your Majesty, and Your Royal Highness."

The Empress nodded with a smile, but a look of disdain flashed in her eyes.

Princess Fule was here for a political marriage and was likely to become part of the harem. With one more woman competing for the Emperor’s attention, it was unlikely the Empress would be pleased.

The palace banquet continued with great excitement, and then the Emperor commanded Si Lefang to perform music and dance. As the performance concluded, Princess Fule applauded and said, "I’ve brought some dancing girls from Chengshui Country. If Your Majesty and Your Royal Highness don’t mind, Fule would like to present Chengshui’s dance to everyone."

Disdain flashed in the Empress’s eyes but quickly receded, while the Emperor said with interest, "I’ve heard that Chengshui’s ’Wave Dance’ is exceedingly elegant and unique. Today, we have the privilege to witness it. Very well, I permit it!"

Princess Fule whispered a few words to her maid, and before long, four dancing girls came forward, bowing gracefully to everyone before starting their dance as the music began.

Bai Ruozhu had never heard of the Wave Dance before and pondered, "Where are the waves in this? Could it be a dance similar to those of minority ethnic groups?"

The four dancers moved with bodies supple as if they had no bones, yet their fluidity was not a weak sort but had a kind of buoyant strength, like the joyous splash of waves in the sea.

No wonder it’s called the ’Wave Dance.’ Bai Ruozhu nodded, finding it to indeed possess a unique charm.

However, the expression on Jiang Yichun’s face grew increasingly solemn, his hand gripping the edge of the table tightly, as if he might snap it off any moment.

While Bai Ruozhu was captivated by the dance, she didn’t notice Jiang Yichun’s reaction. Soon, a cold glint from the dancers caught her eye.

"Assassins!" someone shouted first, and Jiang Yichun next to Bai Ruozhu had already leaped forward, knocking over the wine flask on the table as he did so, spilling fine wine everywhere, but at this moment, no one cared about that.

The four dancing girls suddenly drew soft swords from their sleeves, lunging straight at the Emperor, while Princess Fule, next to the Empress, swiftly unveiled a vicious expression and pulled a dagger from her chest to attack the Empress.

"Your Majesty, save me!" the Empress screamed mournfully, but the Emperor was too busy avoiding the four dancing girls to help her.

A hideous smile spread across Princess Fule’s face as she fully drove the dagger into the Empress’s chest. Blood sprayed onto her face, yet she seemed even more excited, raising the dagger to stab the Emperor.

The Shadow Guard and Jiang Yichun arrived in time, with Jiang Yichun blocking the four dancing girls and kicking Princess Fule, who was covered in blood, squarely.

Princess Fule was knocked back but still held the dagger tightly. As she got up, she slashed wildly around her without looking, causing screams as unfortunate ladies were caught, some having their carotid arteries severed and falling into a pool of blood.

"Master, you must escape!" one of the dancers clenched her teeth and shouted to Princess Fule. Jiang Yichun struck her with his palm, sending her flying and coughing up blood.

The scene was utter chaos, everyone busy defending the Emperor, while the frenzied Princess Fule continued to injure people as she approached Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu grabbed a wine flask and threw it at Princess Fule, successfully preventing her from striking the wife of a general.

She was about to seize Princess Fule when Tang Feng suddenly intervened, striking her several times until she was severely injured and fainted.

At this moment, the Royal Guards rushed in and blocked the doorway. The Emperor’s face was as cold as ice as he commanded, "Catch the assassins alive!"

Seeing no way out, the four dancing girls suddenly gave up attacking the Emperor and started crazily slashing at the civil officials and ladies below. Fortunately, the Shadow Guards intervened in time. Realizing there was no escape, their faces turned livid, and they collapsed.

"Quick, target their acupoints; they’re trying to poison themselves!" Bai Ruozhu exclaimed urgently.

Jiang Yichun acted swiftly, pressing on a dancer’s acupoint. Bai Ruozhu rushed over, forced her mouth open, and fed her a Detoxification Pill.

The other three dancers were too late; before Bai Ruozhu could give them the pills, they had stopped breathing.

"Save the Empress, save the Empress!" a tragic voice suddenly cried out; it was a lady-in-waiting from the Empress’s side, wailing.

Bai Ruozhu dashed over in a flash but found that the Empress’s pulse was no longer beating.

The Empress, probably just twenty-three or four, in modern times might have only just started her career. Her life was supposed to be long.

But there she lay, in a pool of blood, lifeless, with a face that once should have been regal and elegant now marked with terror and pain, her eyes wide open, surely unwilling to die.

"Stop just standing there! Save the Empress’s life! Do you want to lose your head?" the lady-in-waiting sobbed, and the entire Main Hall fell into an eerie silence, none daring to breathe, with only her cries echoing, while the Empress of Danliang Country never stirred again.

Bai Ruozhu, unwilling, said, "The Empress has already passed away."

The lady-in-waiting grabbed Bai Ruozhu’s collar in distress, "You’re talking nonsense. You’re an incompetent doctor. Call the Imperial Doctor, Your Majesty, I beg you to get the Imperial Doctor to save her!"

Jiang Yichun pulled her grip away, but Bai Ruozhu tugged at him and shook her head, whispering, "She’s only being loyal."

The lady-in-waiting stopped pestering Bai Ruozhu and instead threw herself upon the Empress’s corpse, weeping.

Soon, many ladies in the Main Hall began to weep, starting with soft sobs and growing louder. Some cried for the Empress’s death, others for lost friends, and still others over injuries and fright.

Bai Ruozhu sighed, turning to tend to the wounded. Whoever could be saved should be saved now.

The Emperor, his face stern, said, "Arrest all the members of the Chengshui Country envoy and throw them into the Sky Prison! Chengshui must give me an explanation for this!"

Just then, Tang Feng suddenly spoke, pointing to the unconscious Princess Fule on the ground, "Your Majesty, this Princess Fule is wearing a human skin mask."
