Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Reasonable and Legitimate Role _ 1
[Donaldโs Perspective]
I watched Margaret walk away and saw Angel smiling smugly beside me. ฦ๐๐e๐๐ฒ๐n๐๐ท๐ฒฦ.c๐ผ๐
Iโd seen the look in Margaretโs eyes when she spoke. It wasnโt filled with grief or anger, as Iโd expected. It was unexpectedly calm. Although you could tell that there were turbulent undercurrents under that calm surface, you couldnโt tell much about her emotions.
Defeated by that look, I nodded automatically.
Margaret didnโt say anything more. She just turned and left. I noticed that Armstrong left with her.
It occurred to me that Margaret might not be as fragile as Iโd thought. Before she met me, sheโd been doing the best she could. Iโd wanted to be her support, to keep her completely under my wing. But it wasnโt as if she hadnโt been through setbacks and storms. She might be stronger inside than I knew.
โCarry everything up. Put my luggage separately.โ
My thoughts were interrupted by Angelโs voice beside me. I frowned at her.
โWhat are you going to do?โ
โIโm moving my luggage to my residence.โ
โIโve already asked Elliot to arrange accommodation for you.โ
โThatโs their place, not mine,โ Angel said casually. โElliot and I swapped rooms. Iโve asked him to take them there.โ
I looked around and realized that the assault team had left. Angel and I were the only ones left.
Finally, I didnโt have to hide my emotions anymore. โWhat are you doing here?โ I demanded.
โIโm the commander of the assault team. You dispatched the team. Iโm here as a matter of course.โ
โHow did you get into the assault team?โ
โSneaked in?โ Angel laughed. โDonโt underestimate me, Donald. Iโve always been the best fighter. Maybe you can try me. I wonโt be any worse than Elliot.โ
Angel leaned in again and said, โElliot told me about the little she-wolf, but I donโt care. How can she help you? Sheโs just a worthless she-wolf. Donald, your mate should be me. Iโm the one whoโs worthy of you.โ
Angelโs breath was inches away. I took two steps back to keep my distance from her.
โThatโs none of your business,โ I said coldly. โI wonโt allow you to stay near me. Go back to where you belong.โ
Angel was embarrassed by my repeated rejections. She restrained her playful expression and looked at me with a complicated gaze.
I met her gaze with an unrelenting and authoritative look.
She should understand that this was not something to be discussed. We did not make promises to each other in the past. Even if we did, now that I have found my mate, everything in the past should be over.
โYou never used to be so heartless, Donald.โ She sighed.
If possible, I didnโt want to be so heartless to Angel. I felt that we parted ways amicably back then. However, if she kept pestering me and didnโt know how to let go, I would have to treat her coldly.
โMargaret is already my mate, the future queen. You know what happens when you disrespect the queen. I wonโt hold you accountable today, but I wonโt allow this to happen again. Itโs not appropriate for you to be here. Iโll send for a new commander of the assault team. Go back.โ
โAre you really not going to talk about friendship at all?โ
โIโm already doing you a favor by not holding you accountable.โ
โDonโt be stupid, Donald. You need me now. Iโve already heard from Elliot about the current situation. Iโm the only person you lack now. Moreover, this assault team can only be most effective under my direction.โ Angelโs expression became serious.
I looked at her noncommittally.
I wasnโt going to back down on this. Right now, there was no way I was going to tolerate anyone or anything hurting Margaret.
โAll right, all right. I wonโt cause any more trouble for that little she-wolf of yours. Is that okay?โ Angel threw up her hands. โBut as the commander of the assault team, your security and protection is my responsibility. I have to be near you.โ
โLet Elliot handle it.'โ
โMy authority is above Elliotโs. He has no authority over me.โ
โIs it above mine too?โ
โDonโt be so imperious, Donald. I promised I wonโt do anything.โ
I looked at her suspiciously. To be honest, I didnโt trust her promise. If she didnโt have any ulterior motives, she wouldnโt have come here. She would be in trouble. I just wanted her away from here.
โPlease. You know Iโm the best person for the job right now. Everything in the past aside, what reason do you have for not letting me stay here? How are you going to explain this to the others?โ
โYou shouldnโt have come here.โ
โBut Iโm already here.โ
I felt a headache coming on because of this. I really couldnโt kick Angel out so easily. Her role and motive for coming here were reasonable and legitimate on the surface, even though I knew that wasnโt the case at all.
