Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 242: My selfishness
[Margaret’s POV]
Watching Anthony’s meticulous and fiercely loyal demeanor, I smiled gently and glanced at Donald beside me before speaking, "I heard from Donald about what you all went through yesterday, and you really did complete your task very well."
"After leaving the Misty Forest, you continued to help with various things, which was a great help to us. Therefore, it’s only right that Donald wants to reward you; there’s no need for such modesty and politeness. I believe Armstrong would be happy for you as well."
While saying this, I looked around at the others and after a moment, I continued with a smile toward Donald, "Actually everyone has worked hard on this matter, and there’s no rush to reward anyone at this moment. How about we wait until we reach the next stop at the Windstorm Pack, and then you can properly recognize and reward everyone’s efforts?"
"That way, everyone will be happy, and Anthony can take your reward back to the Silver Moon Pack from Windstorm Pack. He’s Armstrong’s Beta; we couldn’t really have him come back to the Palace with us, could we? He needs to go home."
I actually saw Donald’s reluctance to part with Anthony, but the vast Werewolf Palace wouldn’t lack a brave and resourceful Beta like him. Outstanding Lycans like a dime a dozen surround Donald, and Anthony might not necessarily receive the recognition he truly deserves.
I know this is a somewhat cruel reality, but there is indeed a gap between Anthony and the likes of Chris and Benjamin.
A friend in times, I hope Anthony can do as he wishes and have a more relaxed life; he will surely encounter two different fates in the Silver Moon Pack and the Werewolf Palace.
Besides, I have a bit of selfishness as well; I hope a fine Beta like him stays in the pack to protect my family and kin.
And not to have my sister, Elizabeth, separated from this man who has quietly stood by her at such a critical moment of love choices.
That would be unfair to both Elizabeth and Anthony.
So, a multitude of thoughts flashed through my mind in these few minutes, before I finally turned my attention back to Donald with some apology.
After hearing my words, Anthony looked up at me with gratitude in his eyes; I knew these were his thoughts.
The broad prospects of going to the Werewolf Palace could not outweigh his obsession to stay silently by Elizabeth’s side. Anthony was also a very persistent and passionate person.
Donald, an extremely intelligent man, quickly caught on after hearing all this.
He looked at Anthony, who was half-kneeling on the ground, then nodded his head and agreed to my suggestion.
Elizabeth, far away in the Silver Moon Pack, had no idea that Anthony almost couldn’t return.
In fact, while I was considering Anthony’s alternate path, I also had my own uncertainties. With innate differences between him and the Lycans around Donald, wasn’t I the same?
I think in such a vast Werewolf Palace, there must be countless she-wolves like Angel who are outstanding and in love with Donald.
To gain everyone’s acceptance and stand by Donald’s side, to become his true and rightful Lycan Queen, is indeed a daunting goal!
I’m not as naive as Elizabeth, not even a bit unaware of what will happen when I return to the Werewolf Palace with Donald.
I love Donald and want to stay by his side forever; this is certainly a most difficult task, but I won’t be discouraged or give up easily.
My inner turmoil runs much deeper than what’s apparent on the surface.
Of course, Donald has no idea how much mental preparation I have to do within myself to agree to return to the Werewolf Palace with him.
I don’t want to appear overly sentimental and timid in front of him; I want to grow up and become someone who truly deserves him as soon as possible.
The two-hour journey passed in a flash, and our Guard convoy safely arrived at the Windstorm Pack. It’s actually quite close to the Werewolf Palace now, probably about a day and a half’s journey left.
Donald stood on the steps below the mobile home, raising his hand to lead me off the vehicle.
But this ordinary scene fell into the eyes of the Alpha of the Windstorm Pack—Austin, which made him slightly frown.
"Oh my revered sovereign, you’re finally back! You should know, I’ve been waiting here for you for 3 hours, and I think the kitchen’s delicacies must all be ready by now. Let’s hurry on over," he said.
While speaking, he bowed slightly to Donald with great respect, ardently using some welcoming words, and when he raised his head to look at Donald and me, his gaze suddenly fell on our clasped hands.
"Um... May I ask who this lady is?"
Donald must have known Austin for quite a long time since they interacted with each other in a very familiar way, and their conversation showed relaxed and cheerful expressions.
"Her name is Margaret, she’s my mate," this was Donald introducing me to Austin.
