Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 214: Eric’s Temptation
[Margaret’s POV]
The pack isn’t very safe at night, I should escort you home first, the Lycan King is still in the conference room investigating the assault team’s matters..."
"No need."
I spoke up and directly interrupted Armstrong’s words, turning to take a glance at Eric beside me before slowly explaining, "Eric will ensure my safe return. Good night."
After finishing my words without any hesitation, I promptly left. Armstrong stood there watching me, I could feel it.
Sometimes our emotions aren’t under our own control, but that doesn’t mean we can recklessly do things that might hurt others.
Armstrong and I had long been over. Now, he shouldn’t be influenced by any other factors.
What he should seriously consider is only his and Elizabeth’s affair.
"Miss Margaret, you seem to be quite familiar with Alpha Armstrong."
Eric’s sudden voice interrupted my thoughts, and I glanced at him before remembering to answer his question, "He is the leader of our Silver Moon Pack and my sister’s mate, a very outstanding Lycan."
Eric pondered for a moment and nodded, showing no dissatisfaction with my very official response, "He indeed is a very capable leader. I even see some of the Lycan King’s qualities in him. Last night, he alone secured our rear, such extraordinary ability and courage is truly admirable."
I didn’t know why Eric was comparing Armstrong to Donald, nor why he was so generous with his praises for Armstrong; it seemed a bit peculiar. I stopped in my tracks and looked up at him.
"Why do you say that? Weren’t you a great admirer of Donald before?"
As if he noticed the inquiry in my tone, Eric smiled uneasily and explained, "I just found the atmosphere between you and Alpha Armstrong a bit unusual, and I was curious, that’s all."
"After all, you are our future Lycan Queen, and I don’t want any misunderstandings to arise. I do greatly admire the Lycan King, which is why I pay extra attention to these matters."
Indeed, Eric was a very sharp and intelligent Lycan. Just one day of following me and he had already noticed many subtle details.
He was certainly one of Donald’s exceptional subordinates, but I’d have preferred his acute inquiries not be directed at me.
"Donald is my mate, and my love for him is beyond question. The matters that you are so concerned and worried about might not be yours to fret over; they are between Donald and me. Do you understand what I’m saying?"
After watching Eric in silence for a while, I slowly gave him this reply.
He might question whether I am worthy of Donald, but he must not underestimate my love and care for Donald, not by the slightest bit—I will not allow it.
Eric appeared not to expect such a firm stance from me, momentarily rooted to the spot.
"Although nothing has been said overtly, I know how you Lycans think. I will strive to improve myself and keep pace with Donald. And I will protect the love between us, not allowing anyone to doubt or slander it."
My steps were measured as I spoke, a confident air about me.
I didn’t care much for Eric’s probing earlier, because someday, I’ll make them recognize me, the only one who can truly stand beside Donald.
Eric didn’t say much more after that, instead quietly escorting me back to my residence. Before I turned to enter the house, I thanked him, and said, "See you tomorrow. There’s still a lot of work to be done at the hospital."
He looked rather stunned, as if he hadn’t expected another talk from me—perhaps he had also realized his probing had overstepped bounds.
"What are you talking about? Why did it get dark before you came back?"
Donald’s voice arose behind me. I turned to look at him and smiled as I answered, "Nothing much, just talking about going to the hospital tomorrow. Are you done with your work?"
Donald reached out to take my hand, giving my lips a quick kiss and replied with a lazy voice, "Hmm."
After speaking, he seemed to notice Eric still at the doorway. Eric came to his senses and greeted Donald respectfully, quickly taking his leave afterward.
The door closed slowly behind me, leaving just the two of us in the room.
Noticing the tiredness between his brows, I reached up to gently soothe it and softly asked, "Have you eaten? Do you want to take a shower?"
He grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips for a kiss, "Haven’t eaten. Could I start with you first?"
I felt excitement and shyness at such a direct proposition from my own mate. It had been a long time since we’d been together, and I knew he wanted me.
"Then, shall we take a shower together?" I looked up at him with a flushed face, my eyes probably gleaming.
