Abandoned by the Alpha, I Became the Lycan King's Mate-Chapter 212: The medical team is helping
[Margaret’s POV]
Donald was very calm and did not speak, only his eyes, when gazing at Benjamin, held an obscure and indecipherable expression.
Benjamin sighed softly as he looked at me, then continued his analysis, "His abdominal wounds are too deep, and the length of the wound is extensive. Moreover, there are multiple injuries on his body that are difficult to stitch..."
"Elliot has pushed himself to the limit in battle, escaping from the enemy only by sheer willpower. His condition is dire; with just me and the current medical resources available, there’s no way to save him. He needs to go back to the Palace, where more doctors and medicines are available to aid him! That’s his only chance of survival now."
Benjamin’s words hung heavily in the air, weighing on all of our hearts, and the room fell into a deep silence.
Turning to Donald beside me, I took a deep breath and in a low voice, shattered the stillness, "Donald, we have to save him. Let’s take Elliot back to the Palace!"
This was, of course, something that had to be done, but the difficulty lay in how to do it and who would do it?
All the problems I could think of were undoubtedly clear to Donald as well. He had too much to consider, and it seemed everyone was depending on him.
"I’ll arrange this, but I need some time. Till then, Benjamin, you must sustain Elliot’s life, understood?" Donald spoke after a long silence.
I watched Benjamin respectfully bowing his head in assent before Donald, trusting him to handle everything well.
After leaving the hospital, I took a deep breath of fresh air and said softly to Donald, "Although the situation is complicated, we have to address things one at a time. Everyone, including me, trusts you greatly. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself; I’m fully behind you."
Donald, upon hearing this, lowered his gaze to look at me, and after a moment, let out a soft sigh. He cupped my chin and gave me a kiss, then said, "There are many issues to deal with post-war, and Armstrong has already called for me several times. I need to go to the meeting with him now. I’ll have Eric escort you back, and we’ll see each other tonight, okay?"
I looked into Donald’s eyes and, taking the initiative, wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed his lips, "You can have Eric accompany me; I think I’ll need his help..."
Donald’s face revealed a puzzled expression, so I smiled and continued, "Benjamin seems to need a hand here, and there are things I can do to help him." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"You don’t have to worry. This time I definitely won’t stray, and I won’t leave the sight of Eric and the guards. You can reach me at any time. There are many Lycan warriors here, so there’s no need to worry about my safety. Is that okay?"
I spoke swiftly, fearful that Donald might reject my request, "I want to help you with something, but with my current abilities... it’s perhaps a bit unrealistic. Just let me stay with Benjamin and learn a few things, okay Donald?"
Donald’s lips, which I was gently pecking at, found it hard to decline my coquettish requests, and this time was no different.
"Alright, but you must return before dark. I’ll have Eric keep an eye on you," he conceded reluctantly.
I smiled, rewarding him with a passionate kiss.
Donald left with several Lycan warriors, and Eric and I returned to the hospital. Though I was not capable of performing the more complex medical tasks, I could certainly handle simple everyday tasks such as changing bandages or various other chores.
With the help from me and Eric, the medics in the Lycan team breathed a sigh of relief. Gratitude and joy shone in their eyes as they looked at me, but I felt that what I was doing was expected, and there was no need for special treatment.
This war was fought to protect my pack, and those injured in battle were heroes. Doing even a little more for them would give me some peace of mind.
I didn’t know how Elizabeth found out about my volunteering at the medical team, but after working for about an afternoon, I saw her in the hospital.
"What brings you here? Are you feeling unwell anywhere? Let me have a doctor look at you," I offered.
Elizabeth appeared somewhat pale, and I assumed she was uncomfortable, pulling her toward an examination room to find a doctor. However, she grasped my hand instead.
I turned back, puzzled, to look at her.
She gave me a gentle smile, sighed, and responded, "I’m fine, Margaret. I just didn’t want to be alone at home. Is there anything I can help with here? I want to help you."
Surprised by her offer, I looked at her, wondering if Elizabeth had done something foolish again. For her to take the initiative to approach me kindly, or to offer to help with work, was indeed not easy.
The work at the hospital was complex, serious, and often bloody. I didn’t think she could handle it.
