A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 99: Stucked
Lisa’s face was pale as she turned to face her husband and her daughter.
"Did you...did you hear what she said?" she asked, her voice coming out softly.
Adrian and his daughter exchanged a glance. Of course they had heard every single word exchanged between Lisa and Lara, but neither of them said anything.
"I asked if you guys heard what she said!" Lisa snapped, and her chest heaved with anger.
Laura stepped forward, and there was a placating smile on her face as she responded to her mother.
"Yes, mum. We did. But I’m sure she’s just... exaggerating."
Laura was lying.
She knew her brother’s wife had not been exaggerating. Lara was right. If Curtis woke up and found out what his mother was currently doing, all hell would be let loose.
And Lisa also knew that Lara wasn’t lying.
Which was why Curtis’s mother was raving mad.
Lisa let out a humourless laugh at her daughter’s words. She turned rage filled eyes to stare at Laura and her husband.
"You think that bitch was exaggerating? No. No she wasn’t. She meant every word she said. You do realise the implications of her words, right?" she asked again.
But this time, instead of waiting for a response, Lisa went on.
"That woman has bewitched my son! I don’t care what she did or how she did it, but the witch has done something to Curtis," she spat out her conclusion.
Adrian took a few steps towards his wife.
"Come on, love. Don’t be dramatic," he stated. Lisa scoffed, her eyes widening as her anger flared up.
"Dramatic? YOU THINK I AM DRAMATIC? Tell me, ever since Curtis got together with that woman, has our family ever been peaceful? No! Everything has been going sideways since she arrived. It is her fault. Our family is falling apart and it is all because of her!"
Lisa was close to yelling now, but she didn’t care. Mind numbing rage flowed in her veins.
"Mum..." Laura stated, and Lisa whirled to face her.
"Don’t. Don’t ’Mum’ me. I don’t want to listen to whatever excuse you’re going to come up with for that woman. All of these," she paused and waved her hands around the hospital room, "has to come to an end."
Adrian stepped forward again. He took her hand in his and tried to calm her down.
"Darling. We don’t have to do anything. At least not now. Our main priority should be to look after Curtis. Our son needs us right now," he said gently.
Lisa nodded at his words as she thought about them. Then suddenly, a sharp, cruel smile crept upon her face.
"You’re right. Curtis is the main priority. Which brings me to a very marvelous idea. We need to get him out of here," she deadpanned.
Confusion slammed into Laura at those words.
"What? What are you talking about?" she asked.
Lisa eased her hand out of her husband’s grip and started to pace the room.
"No, no. Listen to me. Each of us right here is Curtis’s legal family. And he needs us right now. The only reason why that woman has the sheer guts to speak to me in that manner is because she still has access to him. If we take him away, transfer him to another hospital, then she wouldn’t be around to make a scene. And I would be able to focus on taking care of Curtis without wondering if she’s going to cause trouble or not," she explained.
Laura and Adrian gaped at her.
"You want us to...move Curtis?" Adrian asked. Lisa nodded sharply.
"Yes. We need to transfer him to another hospital," she stated firmly.
"But he’s in a coma, Mum. Do you think it will be safe to move him around like that?" Laura asked, her heart hammering slightly as her mother’s plan seemed to coalesce before her.
Lisa smiled at her daughter.
"Of course. Hospitals are used to transfers. They do it all the time."
"But... don’t you think that’s a little bit too extreme?" Adrian asked.
Lisa’s eyes burned as she stared at her husband.
"In this case? No. Absolutely not. This is a war, and it is one I intend to win."
~~
Lara could not believe her ears.
When Laura had texted her to let her know that her mother was planning to move Curtis to another hospital, she had thought it was a joke.
But when she got to the ward and saw it empty, Lara had rushed down to the reception.
And Laura’s claim had been confirmed.
"I’m sorry, what?" she gasped as disbelief slammed into her.
The nurse looked slightly sheepish, and she rubbed the back of her neck.
"I am sorry ma’am. It’s just... the people who filed for the transfer are his direct family members. There was nothing we could have done to stop them," she explained.
Lara slammed her hands over the reception table.
"Well, I am his wife! And nobody told me anything. I was the one who rushed in here with him for goodness sake!" she snapped, anger visible in her words.
The nurse flinched and apologised again. Lara turned away from her in disgust.
Lazarus walked towards her.
"Ma’am. I just finished speaking to your doctor, and he said that you are not in a position to be released yet. He says you have to remain admitted in the hospital. Because of your delicate ... condition," he explained.
Lara’s jaw dropped open.
"What the hell? They are refusing to let me leave the hospital?" she snapped.
Lazarus took a step closer.
"It’s for your wellbeing, ma’am. They want you to stay because your due date is so close and they want to keep you here just to be on the safer side."
Lara threw her hands in the air.
"But I am okay! There is nothing wrong with me. I don’t need to stay here until I give birth," she yelled, but Lara knew that yelling and causing a scene was useless.
She was stuck in the hospital whether she liked it or not, and she had no idea where her mother in law took her husband to.
Fucking hell.
