A Wrong Surrogate for the CEO-Chapter 56: Taken Away

Tolu stormed into Mike’s office, slamming the door behind her. She was pissed. Hell, she was beyond pissed.

She was totally, absolutely, irrevocably, enraged.

Mike looked up from his computer with a bland look on his face.

"What’s up?" he asked.

"Can you believe this? I was summoned by HR. I thought it was weird when I saw their mail, but I went. And then they had the fucking guts to tell me what I was fired. Fired! For no reason at all. I did not do any fucking thing! I have been working here for years. I am damn good at my job. I don’t poke my nose in other people’s business. They should have given me a fucking promotion. They have no right to fire me," she yelled, not caring if the other people on the office floor could hear her.

Tears were sliding down her face too, and even though she was mad, Tolu was also hurt by the turn of events.

She was scared too.

She expected Mike to immediately stand up and comfort her. Tolu expected him to march over to the HR department angrily and demand an explanation.

She expected a lot of things from him. But to her utmost surprise, Mike leaned back on his chair and cocked his head to the side.

"Is that so?" he asked.

Tolu frowned.

"What the hell are you talking about? I literally just told you that I was fired. My career is over. Do something!" she snapped.

Mike leaned forward, placing his chin on his interlocked fingers.

"I have been working here longer than you have, Tolu. And I know that the HR would never ever fire someone within a reasonable cause. So you did something. The question now is, what did you do?" he asked.

Tolu scoffed. She could not believe her ears. Here she was, desperately in need of his comfort.

And yet he was acting as though what just happened didn’t affect him at all.

"For fuck’s sake, Mike. What are you on about? I did not do anything. They fired me over nothing! You know me, Mike. What could I have done?" she said with tears in her voice.

He smiled.

"What could you have done, you ask? I don’t know. But I think I have a pretty good reason as to why you were fired. Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea afterall, to throw yourself at Curtis and ask him for a one night stand."

Blood drained out of Tolu’s face at Mike’s words. How did he know?

Her heart started to hammer against her chest.

"What...what are you talking about?" she stammered, hiding her trembling hands behind her back.

Mike stood up. He was angry at Tolu, but he kept his emotions out of his face.

He had gone to her office earlier that morning to ask her about something that had to do with work.

But when he got there, he met a man there. Curtis. He was curious, so he listened.

And it was from there that Mike found out that Lara was married to Curtis Rodney.

The realisation almost knocked him off his feet, but Mike didn’t leave. Instead he stayed to listen to the rest of the conversation.

Only for him to witness Tolu throwing herself at Curtis’s feet.

Now she was here in his office, crying and causing a scene when she was the one who brought what happened upon herself.

"I overheard every single word you exchanged with Curtis, and I have to say, I am disappointed in you. How could you have done that to me, Tolu? How could you have so easily offered your body to another man? Why did you do such a thing? Do I not satisfy you? Am I not enough for you?" he asked.

There was a tinge of pain in his voice.

Tolu shook her head.

"No...no. You don’t understand. I didn’t mean what I said. I just...I was just messing with him. You know me, Mike. I would never cheat on you," Tolu said desperately.

"So if Curtis had said yes to your proposal, if that man had accepted to sleep with you, would you have turned him down?" Mike asked.

And Tolu hesitated.

She should not have. Tolu knew that she shouldn’t have hesitated, but she did and that was all the answer Mike needed.

Mike knew in that instant that Tolu would have slept with Curtis if the man wanted her to, and the realization made Mike feel like a fool.

He had trusted her, but here she was, rubbing that trust in his face.

Mike sighed, ran his hand through his hair and sat back down. His anger was hot and red, but he would not give in to the anger.

"Now you know why you were fired. That should serve as a lesson for you, Tolu. Now if you don’t mind, please get out of my office. Don’t get me in trouble," he said.

Tolu’s jaw dropped open. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"You’re sending me away? What the hell, Mike?" she asked, but before he could say anything, Mike’s office door was slammed open.

Tough looking men in police uniforms walked in, and two of them instantly went to grab Tolu.

Mike stood up instantly.

"Excuse me, gentlemen. What’s going on?" he asked.

One of the men stepped forward and showed Mike a police officer badge.

Then he turned to face Tolu.

"Ms. Tolu Greg. You are hereby arrested for attempted murder of Mrs. Lara Rodney," the man said.

Mike’s jaw dropped open, but Tolu started to thrash around.

"What the fuck are you talking about? I didn’t do anything! Let me go! Get your hands away from me!" she yelled.

The men didn’t budge.

"You should remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law," the leader said to her and gestured to his men to take her away.

Mike was too stunned, too gobsmacked to do anything. The men walked out and closed the door behind them.

By the time Mike came to his senses, by the time he rushed out of his office and after those men, they were already gone.

Tolu had been charged with attempted murder and taken away.
