A Top Scholar in Everything-Chapter 847 - 833: Battlefield
Perhaps due to the many perils encountered earlier, the journey ahead proceeded smoothly without any danger. However, the person who had previously escaped remained a vigilant concern for Baiyu and Wang Shenghua.
His strength was formidable, and he was extraordinarily composed. Even when his companion was killed, he remained rational. When Baiyu and Wang Shenghua stepped into the trap he had meticulously set up, he showed not a hint of impatience.
If that person revealed even the slightest trace in the forest, Baiyu could find and eliminate him on the spot. However, it was clear that the other party had anticipated this and did not act rashly, allowing the two to leave.
"We're here, this is the place."
After the convoy traveled for two days, Boss Bei finally had them stop, and everyone disembarked to survey the surroundings.
It was a massive hill.
The ground, parched and cracked from lack of water, was covered with countless web-like fissures. The only visible greenery was the cacti, surrounded by jagged rocks, so barren that even birds wouldn't defecate here.
After getting off the vehicle, Baiyu directly asked Boss Bei: "Where is the Commune?"
There wasn't even a trace of the Pure White Commune, let alone any artificial structures; it was completely desolate.
Boss Bei frowned: "It's here, I'm sure I didn't remember wrong. Back then, this was exactly where that person stopped. It's absolutely impossible that I'm mistaken. But after so many years, the terrain might have changed a bit."
Wang Shenghua glanced around: "The terrain changed a bit? Are you sure it's a bit? It's completely unrecognizable."
Boss Bei was sweating profusely, confident that he wasn't mistaken. Yet, the change over a decade was too drastic to believe. As Boss Bei continued to wipe his sweat, the ground started to shake suddenly.
The already cracked surface split open further; the ground trembled relentlessly. Four pitch-black stone pillars, carved with various strange symbols, rose from the ground, forming a rectangular pattern. Blue light emerged from the top of each pillar, connecting them into a closed square.
"Welcome to the Battlefield. Which of you two Warriors will step onto the stage? Let me see, out of all of you here, isn't there anyone daring enough?"
A passionate voice resonated.
Everyone looked around, finally locking eyes on a glowing orb above, which kept flashing and emitted a voice akin to an underground fight host.
Seeing this, everyone was at a loss.
"What's this?"
Earth Fire squinted, casually raised his weapon, and shot directly at the glowing orb.
Bang.
The bullet stopped short in front of the blue light screen, sparking intensely.
"Heh heh, dear Warrior, external weapons are prohibited in the Battlefield. Your puny handgun won't harm me in the slightest. Put away these useless tricks, and let's fight with our fists! But remember, not against me—knock out your opponent. After all, I'm just an artificial intelligence."
The orb flickered continuously, the voice dynamic and persuasive. Earth Fire was both embarrassed and infuriated by the sarcastic dismissal despite the lack of effect from his shot.
Yet soon.
He instructed his companions: "Open fire and smash this light screen."
A group of them opened fire instantly.
But the bullets merely erupted in sparks on the blue light screen, incapable of causing any damage—or even making a dent.
"Oh ho ho, look at you all being so rude and violent towards this sacred confrontation. I told you before, external items are useless here; you can only rely on yourselves!" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
The orb continued to shine, taunting everyone furiously and building resentment.
Earth Fire was nearly driven mad with rage but found himself helpless.
"It seems you won't step up before seeing the rewards. Let me show you the first prize. Ta-da! This is an Armor from the Black Dragon Imperial, crafted from the toughest scales and hide of the Black Dragon. It can repel blades, bullets, and various weapons, providing immense strength to the bearer.
Truly an essential item for any adventurer."
The orb continued speaking in its varied tones.
Boss Bei halted his men from firing further and turned to Baiyu: "Mr. Bai, what do you think is happening here? When I came here before, that mysterious man stopped me, and I retraced my steps without knowing what happened afterward."
Baiyu shook his head without answering.
He'd never been here either, and as for the Battlefield, he had no clue.
But judging from the scene and the orb's words, it appeared to be some sort of arena.
A special arena.
He had discreetly tested with his Spirituality earlier and couldn't penetrate the blue light screen, assuming Blood Qi couldn't either. Whoever set up this stage must have been an incredibly formidable Extraordinary.
"I believe this is an arena, and haven't they already mentioned the reward? Send two people up to try it out."
Baiyu suggested.
Boss Bei frowned, typically disliking using lives to probe. However, given the current situation, he couldn't easily give up. Years of experience hinted that this was a rare opportunity.
He promptly instructed two subordinates to approach the blue light screen.
Both showed traces of fear in their eyes. Given the light screen's ability to repel bullets, who knew if it would dismember them if touched directly?
But.
Not going was a death sentence too.
Those who previously defied Boss Bei knew their fate well, and beside them stood Baiyu, whose depth was unknown.
The two clenched their teeth and moved toward the light screen.
As soon as they touched it, they were instantly absorbed inside, appearing confused within the blue light screen area.
"Oh ho, see, we have two new challengers—a frail human male, whose name is...er, never mind. Since his opponent is equally nameless, let's just begin the match!"
The orb sparkled as it announced the start of the match.
Then, two beams of light descended from the sky, landing on both men.
"Our Warriors have received certain enhancements, making the battle more thrilling and addictive!"
The orb proclaimed loudly.
The expressions of the two on the arena were dazed at this moment.
