A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 545: Song of the Elves
The World Tree is finally purified. She can feel the fresh air finally flowing around the surroundings compared to before where things felt a bit suffocating to breath normally. With the corruption gone, it seems that the fresh air has once again started to flow properly.
"[Looks like removing the corruption and the rot is indeed helping. It’s a good start for revitalizing the land of the dead and recovee its previous vitality and allow it to once again nurture life once more. I say that deserves a good praise.]" The God of Farming praises Elaina’s efforts.
"Yep, it is indeed a lot of effort and I am liking the view more this time compared earlier. Without the watering can in the first place, I don’t think the tree and the surroundings will ever taste the greenery once again. The one who deserves the most praise is none other than this Watering Can. Without it, this is something I can’t even accomplish."
"[That’s true, but I don’t think you should undersell yourself as well. Without your efforts, you won’t be obtaining this watering can in the first place.]"
Elaina can only smile at that. Although the God of Farming’s words are true, she is not just going to say that this is entirely her effort. She refuses it.
As she is ready to leave, Elaina noticed a very old chest not too far from the World Tree’s base. It is hidden on one of its thickest roots making it hard to see. It also has a black color, making it hard to see during the time when the corruption still plagues the whole place. With the corruption purified, the chest is finally visible to Elaina.
"A treasure chest?" Elaina approaches the withered chest. The wood it was made of is clearly ready to rot but it still managed to keep up and stay intact. Of course, there is no telling when it will disintegrate considering that the chest itself looked quite ancient. The marking alone makes it seem to be from the era where the dragons have been a common sight.
"[How about you open the chest? Considering it looks ready to break anytime, opening it won’t be a challenge. There might be something valuable there.]"
Elaina nodded and checks the chest to see if it is locked or not. Upon closer inspection, she found out that there is indeed a lock on it, but ir has been rusted all over that the moment Elaina touched the padlock, it disintegrates to dust.
"This one is so old for the locks to turn into dust in just a single touch."
Without the lock barring Elaina, she slowly opens the chest carefully to ensure that the chest won’t break to pieces. Inside was a little booklet of some sort that seems to have survived the erosion of time. It is indeed old, but it didn’t rot like the chest. She also found a harmonica inside but when she inspected it, it is broken and can no longer produce any sound.
Aside from the Harmonica and the little booklet, there’s nothing else left inside the chest. The God of Farming is extremely disappointed.
"[And here I thought that this chest would contain some kind of treasure or some sort of artifact that can aid you but all it has are trinkets that are useless. The Harmonica is broken as well.]"
Elaina did not say anything but instead focused her attention to the booklet in her hand. The smell of the pages are already old that Elaina can tell this notebook is much older than her. It is a very ancient notebook to write on something.
She carefully opens the booklet and saw symbols and various characters from an unknown language written there. Although it looks random, somehow, her hunch is that these random symbols and characters were part of a language she just couldn’t understand. She just had no idea what they are and she might just be guessing it wrong and these things are actually just random gibberish symbols that other people has written. But if that is the case, why lock it on a chest?
She couldn’t understand the meaning of it all so she decided to ask the God of Farming.
"Is the language in this booklet familiar, God of Farming?"
The God of Farming was silent when Elaina asked. So she asked again and this time, the God of Farming answered.
"[Sorry for not responding, Elaina. I was trying to jog my mind if I somehow know about this language but sadly, I don’t think I have. I can call the Goddess of Medicine for you, unlike me, she has known a lot of languages since she needed to talk and translate her medicine creations to the people she want to bless with. Perhaps she has an inkling on what this language is. Wait for a bit, let me grab her.]"
Elaina was surprised that even the God of Farming has no idea about the booklet’s language. Perhaps it was gibberish like she thought?
A few moments later, the Goddess of Medicine started to talk with the God of Farming.
"[This better be worth my time, now, out with the booklet Elaina. This guy here said you have some sort of language that you need to decipher?]"
"Yes. It is in this booklet," Elaina opens the booklet. Elaina is not sure how the Gods can see the booklet’s symbols and characters but she didn’t question it.
A few moments later, the Goddess of Medicine answered.
"[Interesting find, Elaina. Where did you found this booklet?]" The Goddess of Medicine asked.
"Under one of the roots of the World Tree, inside a chest hidden there."
"[I see. Is there anything else inside the chest that you find alongside this booklet?]"
"Indeed. A harmonica. But this wind instrument is broken and could not be used to produce sound."
"[Alright, that’s good enough. I now know what this language is, Elaina.]" The Goddess of Medicine declared.
The God of Farming quickly doubted the goddess. "[I am not convinced. You seemed to be just guessing with all those questions you asked Elaina.]"
"[Moron, that’s part of the process on asking what is the purpose of the language was. I read the first passage of the characters written in the booklet and it sounded a bit weird which is why I asked Elaina if she found anything nearby on that thing.]"
"You know what language this is?" Elaina’s eyes lit up.
"[Indeed, the language is very familiar to me. I didn’t even expect to meet it again under these circumstances. Listen up, Elaina. The language in that booklet is an Ancient Elven language. Right now, the language elves use for everyday life is the universal language of all people but this one is their exclusive language. There is also a reason why there was a harmonica in it as well because the booklet contains something that might link you to the Elves if pursued further.]"
Elaina’s attention skyrockets the moment it mentioned Elves."What is it?"
"The booklet contains a song, a song that has the capability to open and close a place or dimension to their liking. And to play that, you needed a harmonica."
