A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods-Chapter 543: Spirit of the Tree [II]
The trunk continues to morph, this time, turning into the shape of a human. It was like the trunk had been turned into some kind of cloth, and someone inside was clawing their way out of it. Elaina did not move a single inch from her spot, and she never moved her eyes away from the entity trying to rip apart the tree’s trunk.
"This is getting creepier the longer I look at it."
"[It doesn’t matter if it is creepy, Elaina. Get ready for it to strike anytime. You don’t want that thing to suddenly maul and kill you because you are not sure whether to fight back or not!]" The God of Farming is also vigilant and is observing the situation, even though he can’t directly help Elaina if hell broke loose.
Then, all of a sudden, cracks slowly appear around the tree’s trunk. Elaina readies her sword, one pull away to swing at the entity. However, just as she is about to strike, bright light shines through her eyes, and Elaina has no choice but to cover her eyes to block some of the light from piercing through.
Elaina has no choice but to step away from her position, a little farther from the tree. She didn’t want to be facing the enemy face-to-face all of a sudden, with a limited space and time frame to react against the entity that is trying to emerge from the World Tree, in case it is a dangerous creature, and she needs to fight against it.
The light slowly dissipated, and the usual brightness of the surroundings returned once more and revealing the tree trunk’s surface that had once had something squirming to get out of it is now back to normal. However, with the entity from the tree gone, a translucent figure is now floating in front of the tree, bobbing in the air, swaying in the wind. It doesn’t have a defined shape for Elaina to quickly identify what it is, but it is slowly forming into a familiar humanoid form.
"Is that a slime?" Elaina frowned.
Despite the entity floating before her seeming harmless and not seeming to have any hostility towards her, Elaina did not let her guard down and just continued to maintain her vigilance. A dangerous entity can be a harmless one, can feign innocence to let down the guard of its prey before it bears its fangs, after all. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"[Careful, Elaina! I can sense something wrong about this translucent entity! It is like getting a strong power spike, rising the more it reforms its body!]"
Just as Elaina is ready to strike it down and get rid of it, the voice that seems to continue whispering in her ear is once again whispering, but instead of the gibberish thing she heard last time is now clearer than ever. It isn’t something she couldn’t understand now; it is speaking in a familiar language that she can understand at long last.
"Put down your weapon, human. I bear no ill will and hostility; I came in peace."
Elaina stopped, but she didn’t put her weapon down; instead, she questioned the voice whispering in her ear.
"I don’t trust something that tries to lower my guard that easily. Unless I can confirm that you are someone I can trust, then this weapon won’t be leaving my hand anytime soon."
"So be it, if that is what makes you calm down. Just don’t attack without reason. I am not here to make enemies. I am here to talk."
"What are you? And why did you want to talk to me?" Elaina frowned. She is still watching the entity slowly morph itself.
"I don’t have a name, but I am what humans technically call a "spirit" of the World Tree. I was sealed here when the rot and the corruption of the World Tree were strong enough to overpower my authority and power, but after the purification power you have been doing, it allowed me to recover and revive myself slowly."
"Is that the reason why I saw the tree trunk look like it got possessed by something, because you are trying to get out of it?"
"Yes. Even though the corruption and rot preventing me from leaving has weakened, it is still there, and you have yet to fully cleanse the tree, but I can’t just keep on remaining there and wait for help. I decided to break out by myself instead of waiting for you to cleanse the whole rot."
"A little bit suspicious, but I am not going to judge; however, I need to know if that is your only reason for showing up in front of me, because if that is all, I will go back to my job. I can’t afford just to leave the remaining corruption there and let it stay there a little bit longer."
"Don’t worry, I am not just here to show myself and delay you from your task. I am here to bestow a blessing on you, a bit of my authority, as a way of saying thanks for doing this for me. Without you, the problem that has been persisting for a long time won’t disappear, and would likely kill the World Tree in the process. Your intervention was the catalyst for the changes that would soon influence the surface once the World Tree recovers its powers."
And before Elaina can even say no or yes, the spirit cast a power that covered her body from head to toe in a warm, bright light that all of a sudden flares up her body with a surge of power.
"What is going on?" Elaina frowned as she felt the changes in her body seemed to have boosted her innate body talents. She can feel that her strength has been enhanced, and she can feel that her body seems to have gotten younger for some reason. The feeling is very reminiscent of her prime body before she got married and pregnant.
"I have boosted your body and revitalized your body. From now on, you will be staying in your prime, even if you get old in the future. You will remain as strong without even going rusty, as the authority I imparted to you will continue to preserve the strength you have."
