Chapter 541: The Cause of Betrayal

The Dragon Knight grits his teeth in anger as he remembers the pieces of memories that caused him to be impaled on the world tree.

"He made me think he was only after the renegade dragons and dragons who are going to be causing danger to humanity, but little did I know that I would be attacked by him and reveal his motive was none other than to kill every dragon! The nerve of the bastard..."

"Are you talking about the owner of this spear?" Elaina asked as she pulled out the spear from the dimensional backpack.

"That is the spear you took from my body, yes? Then indeed, the owner of that wretched spear impaled me in an attempt to kill me."

The Elder Pixie frowned. "I don’t understand. If what you said is true, shouldn’t this man have naturally killed you off before the tree was corrupted? Not only that, but he left behind the spear that has an engraving of Dragon Bane that would make this weapon very effective against other dragons! Doesn’t he need this kind of weapon to slay dragons in the first place?"

Elaina also found it weird that he would just leave the Dragon Knight there alone and leave him still writhing in pain, not killing him outright. Shouldn’t he have died if he was meant to be killed?

"That’s because the World Tree was the one who helped me. As a result of being attacked, the World Tree retaliated and killed the one who wielded the spear. He was not able to deflect or stop the retaliation with the spear still in my chest, which resulted in his immediate death. It’s kinda ironic that the weapon he is using to kill me was also the main reason he died. If he hadn’t impaled me with that spear and pierced the World Tree in the process, he would have managed to kill me off."

"If that is the case, then how come you didn’t die when you were there? Your blood rotted so badly that it caused the corruption of this place that even affected the World Trees here," Elaina looked at the Dragon Knight.

"Yeah, I also should have been killed as well, but for some reason, the World Tree continued healing me in the process. Perhaps it still recognized me as the guardian of the World Tree, which caused me to be still healed even though my blood is actively harming and killing it."

"Hold on, what do you mean,n guardian?" The Elder Pixie frowned.

This time around, Pixie, who was keeping quiet and just observing the situation, chimed in on the conversation. "It seems that you don’t know that the World Trees have their own guardians in the past as a way to stop any intruder and interloper from causing trouble and using the World Tree for heinous crimes and purposes. It is a knowledge that I learned back when I was still the princess. So being a guardian of it is something that he can really become."

"But aren’t you a Dragon Knight? I have seen uniforms like yours back in the museums that are labeled as a Dragon Knight uniform," Elaina points out his clothes that look so worn out, yet they still held on over the years.

"I am indeed a dragon knight when the war was ongoing, but I was not that active and my role is more of a backup knight. I am tasked with defense at that time which is why I am not on the frontlines when the betrayal happened. The Dragon Slayer was my friend at that time and he came to see me with his reason that he wanted to know whether I needed help or not, only to reveal that he specifically came at that time because the battle will be over that night and this place will be my graveyard and without anyone to check up on my body, he can get away without being blamed for my death."

The Dragon Knight looked at Elaina with a determined look on his face.

"Although the World Tree caused me suffering when I was impaled by that spear, it was keeping me alive even when my blood is hurting it. It didn’t have any bad intentions and all it is doing is to help me recover. Now that I am fine now and has left the position of being the cause of its suffering, it is the turn of the World Tree to recover and heal from its wounds that I inflicted."

Elaina smiled. "That’s exactly what I am doing."

Then Elaina turned to the path where the corrupted main World Tree is still located. "However, with that much corruption around it, it will take a lot of time to do so, perhaps even days at best to fully remove the corruption."

The Dragon Knight seems to have perked up when he heard that. "Is it because the watering can’s capability is low and not enough to deal a huge land to fully clear the corruption? Then I think I can help with that."

"Eh?" Elaina’s eyes went wide when the watering can on his hands floats into the air and was covered in red mana. Then, the silver color of the watering can turned to red all of a sudden which made Elaina frown as she is not sure what is happening.

"This is a little gift I shall give to you as a way of saying thanks from saving me from my predicament and to also help out the World Tree. It’s my own way of helping out."

After a few minutes of being covered in red mana, the watering can has changed in form and color. The watering can was simple in design before, but now, it has some spiky appearance now and has a scaly feel that looks similar to that of a snake...no, more like a dragon.

"Did something change the watering can?" Elaina frowned.

The Dragon Knight smiled. "Don’t worry, you will know what changed soon."

...

...

...

Elaina head over to the first black spot. She pours water over it and the water quicky removes the black stain on the ground. It was so quick that Elaina couldn’t believe that it was the same watering can she used since earlier.

"How did that little mana change the watering can this much? It’s abilities has been enhanced to a ten-fold I think!" Elaina exclaimed as she look at the watering can in her hands.

"[Based on what I know, the mana that dragons used is something quite strong that it can easily enhance an item to a certain extent. It was quite fascinating at the very least that a simple enhancement like that is enough to make even a simple watering can to have quite the remarkable changes.]" the Goddess of Medicine explained with certainty.

"So the reason it can easily purify corrupted parts is because the watering can has been "enhanced" that allowed it to become a capable of eliminating things so quick?"

Learning this, Elaina grins in delight. Now this is something she is looking forward of finishing the job.
