A Night of Desire-Chapter 48: I’m Helping You Wake Up

Relieved by her daughter’s assurance, Sienna Hale got back to the matter at hand.

"What you said is true. Seth couldn’t care less about women. I was even worried about his sexual orientation at one point. But now it seems it’s not that he dislikes women, he just hasn’t met the right person, has he?"

"Exactly," Jenna Quinn chimed in. "If Seth and Clara Grant genuinely hit it off, then him marrying her would be a wonderful match, and it would also fulfill our obligation to the Grant family. Clara Grant is Cedric Grant’s daughter, too. As long as a Quinn man marries a Grant woman, it still counts as a marriage alliance."

"But," Sienna Hale hesitated, "the marriage alliance the Grant family proposed was for Miles to marry Chloe Grant."

"Having Miles marry Chloe Grant was mainly an idea pushed by Jean Jarvis and Chloe herself, right? I’d imagine that as long as they secure an alliance with our Quinn Family and it benefits their business, Cedric Grant would be happy with whichever daughter marries into our family, don’t you think?"

"Once the alliance is secured, and as for Miles and Chloe... Miles genuinely can’t stand her, and you can’t force that, can you? We could even say we’re thinking of Chloe’s future marital happiness. What could the Grant family possibly say then?"

The more Sienna Hale listened, the more feasible the plan sounded, but she was still worried. "Well, Jenna, are you sure Seth actually likes Clara Grant?"

"I’m... I’m not entirely sure yet. I was going to try and sound Seth out, but I haven’t had the chance..."

Before Sienna Hale could reply, Theodore Quinn, who was sitting nearby, coughed loudly twice. Sienna instinctively looked over. The moment she met her husband’s gaze, she understood. She turned to her daughter and said, "Then what are you waiting for? Go find Seth and get to the bottom of this."

The sudden sharpness in her mother’s tone made Jenna Quinn jump, and she shot up from the sofa. "Yes! I’ll go right now."

She had only taken a couple of steps when Theodore Quinn’s loud cough sounded from behind her again. Her mother’s voice immediately followed. "Oh, and remember to bring Cherie over soon. I... I mean, I’ve never even met him."

’Phew, I almost said, "I haven’t seen him in so long." Good thing I caught myself, or I would’ve blown our cover.’

"Got it!" Jenna Quinn called back without turning around, then opened the door and ran off.

After the door clicked shut, Theodore Quinn rose from the sofa and walked over to Sienna Hale. He stared off into the distance as he spoke to her in a low voice, "Hmph. Don’t think for a second I don’t know what’s going on."

With that, he continued on his way, walking steadily toward the staircase and heading upstairs.

Sienna Hale froze for a moment before it dawned on her. ’Was he talking about how Jenna and I have been in contact all these years? He knew the whole time and just never said anything?’

’It seems Theodore really does dote on Jenna, after all. He never truly intended to cast her aside.’ 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

At this thought, a small smile touched Sienna Hale’s lips. She stood up and went upstairs as well.

Seth Quinn’s car sped down the road. He glanced over at Miles Quinn in the passenger seat, who had fallen fast asleep the moment he’d gotten in. A second later, Seth sharply jerked the steering wheel.

The sudden lurch of the car jolted Miles Quinn awake. He shot bolt upright, his eyes flying open.

He glanced at the road ahead, then at his unperturbed older brother at the wheel. It clicked. Relaxing back into his seat, he grumbled, "Bro, is this really how you treat your own little brother? Can’t a guy even get some sleep?"

"We’re almost at the school. I’m helping you clear your head," Seth Quinn said flatly, not even glancing at him.
