Chapter 168: Chapter 168: Come in a Rush, Leave in a Rush

Clara turned her head and saw Director Keane standing right next to her, speaking to her with a warm smile.

Clara quickly straightened up and called out respectfully, "Director Keane." Then she gave a shy smile and explained, "I’m not sick, just a little tired. It’s nothing serious."

After a brief pause, she added tentatively, "Director Keane, I heard from Holly Summers just now that I was the one who called you to say I wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be coming down for dinner, but I didn’t..."

Before she could finish, Director Keane chuckled. He glanced around, and seeing that no one was paying attention, he leaned in a little closer and lowered his voice. "President Quinn was the one who called me personally. He said you weren’t feeling well, so you shouldn’t come down. He also specifically told me to arrange for someone to bring some food up to your room.

I was just about to have someone send it up when I saw you’d come down after all."

Liam Keane hadn’t intended to get involved in their private affairs, but he felt he had to get something off his chest. In the end, he added, "Clara, President Quinn really cares about you. It’s rare for him to be so accommodating with a woman.

President Quinn has looks, power, and money—isn’t he the perfect man in any young woman’s eyes? Being his girlfriend is hardly a bad deal. Why aren’t you willing to just openly admit it?"

Clara smiled awkwardly, her gaze flicking to a spot in the distance as she changed the subject. "Why don’t I see him?"

"Oh, President Quinn only stopped by at the very beginning. He said a few words, accepted a few toasts, and then said he had something to attend to and left. A little while ago, he called me about you not coming down for dinner, but he didn’t come back here. He’s probably headed back to the city."

Clara distractedly replied, "Oh." ’So after he left my room, he didn’t come back here at all.’

’So when Chase Childs said President Quinn was waiting for him downstairs, he didn’t mean waiting for dinner, but waiting to go back to the city together?’

Clara’s movements as she picked up food slowed noticeably. ’He came and left in such a rush... what was it all for?’

’Was it really just to attend a few minutes of the opening ceremony? And yet he left without even finishing the celebratory dinner.’

’Or... did he come here for me?’

The answer seemed obvious, but Clara didn’t dare to think about it too deeply.

...

Ever since Faye Jennings entered the main lobby, she had stayed close to Seth Quinn, her eyes constantly following him.

When she saw Seth Quinn leave with the excuse that he had something to do, she wanted to follow him but was surrounded by people wanting to toast her and couldn’t get away.

She figured he would have to come back eventually, so she relaxed and socialized with the others.

By the time she was done, she realized quite a bit of time had passed, and Seth Quinn still hadn’t returned.

Just as she was pondering this, she saw Chase Childs come down from upstairs and walk straight toward the hotel entrance.

On an impulse, she quickly followed him.

Stepping out of the hotel, she saw Chase Childs opening a car door, just about to get into the driver’s seat.

The back-seat window was down, and she could clearly see that the man sitting inside was none other than Seth Quinn.

At that moment, the man was resting with his eyes closed, his brow slightly furrowed. He didn’t seem to be in a very good mood.

She hesitated for a moment but still jogged over and grabbed the window frame before Chase Childs could get into the car.

"President Quinn, what’s this? You’re leaving already?"

Hearing the voice, Seth Quinn opened his eyes and turned his head toward the window. When he saw it was Faye Jennings, he didn’t respond, his expression indifferent.

Faye Jennings was suddenly embarrassed. She subconsciously glanced at Chase Childs, who was still frozen in a half-bent posture, but despite her awkwardness, she refused to give up and spoke again.
