Chapter 159: Chapter 159: How Did I End Up Thinking About Love?

A moment later, a heaven-shattering scream erupted, "Ahhh—"

Seth Quinn clamped a hand over her small mouth, stuffing the rest of her scream back down her throat. He frowned and said in a low voice, "Don’t scream."

As he spoke, he glanced toward the door. The hotel employee he’d asked to open the door for him probably hadn’t gone far. If they heard a scream like that, they might get the wrong idea.

Clara Grant subconsciously nodded, then shook her head, signaling that she understood and would stop screaming. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Seeing her dazed and adorably obedient expression, Seth Quinn couldn’t help but smirk. He removed his hand from her mouth but didn’t get up, remaining bent over and staring at her little face.

The moment Clara Grant saw him move his hand, she shot up, stammering, "Y-You, how did you get in... Ah!"

Before she could finish, she let out another muffled cry, clutching her throbbing forehead and wincing in pain.

She had thought Seth Quinn would get up and move away from her, but he hadn’t. Since she had gotten up too quickly, their heads had slammed right into each other!

The collision hurt Seth Quinn too, but he had a higher pain tolerance than she did. He casually rubbed the spot between his eyebrows where she’d hit him, then immediately went to check her forehead.

He moved her hand away and saw a small, red patch on her forehead. A pang of tenderness shot through him, and he reached out to rub the sore spot.

"Does it hurt?"

"It hurts like hell!"

Clara didn’t know if it was because it really hurt, or because his touch was too gentle and his voice was too warm, but she subconsciously pouted and replied with a hint of grievance.

Her tone was just like that of a young wife seeking comfort from her husband.

As she said this, her eyes grew moist against her will. She actually wanted to cry!

When Clara Grant realized this, she was startled. ’Why would I want to cry in front of Seth Quinn?’

She rarely cried, and when she did, it was only ever in front of the people she was closest to—her mother and her best friend, Sarah. She never cried in front of anyone else!

But since meeting Seth Quinn, she had already felt the urge to cry in front of him twice.

The last time was when he’d tried to force himself on her. She had resisted, and he had said those awful things to her. Crying out of grief and anger was understandable.

But now, because of a single word and a single gesture from him, she wanted to vent all her grievances to him!

’Aren’t those the kind of emotions you only show to the people you’re closest to?’

’Could it be that, subconsciously, she’d already started to see Seth Quinn as one of the people closest to her?’

’No, no, how could that be possible?’

’Even if it were possible, she wouldn’t allow it!’

He had only married her to use her as a tool to satisfy his lust. Their relationship was, at best, a legal friends-with-benefits arrangement.

In love, the first person to fall always loses. She didn’t want to lose!

She didn’t want to be unable to walk away unscathed when Seth Quinn got tired of her and wanted a divorce!

So, she had to guard her heart.

"What are you thinking about?"

Seth Quinn’s low yet still gentle voice pulled Clara back to reality, and she felt a wave of annoyance at herself.

’Ugh, Clara Grant, what is all this nonsense you’re thinking? How did you end up thinking about love?’

’Seth Quinn doesn’t love me; that’s an indisputable fact. And I don’t love Seth Quinn, because for three years, I’ve been secretly in love with Miles Quinn!’

Clara Grant collected her thoughts, blinked hard to get rid of the moisture in her eyes, and then finally looked up at Seth Quinn.
