Chapter 135: Chapter 135: I’m Willing to Bet

When Skylar Hayes returned to the hospital room, she found Seth Quinn sitting upright on a chair, but Cherie was nowhere to be seen on the bed.

When Seth Quinn saw her enter, he stood up and nodded politely. "You’re back?"

He had helped her and Clara before, so Skylar Hayes remembered him. Although surprised to see him here so unexpectedly, she still nodded politely. "President Quinn, why are you here? And where’s Cherie?"

"First, Cherie is safe, so please don’t worry. Second, I came because there’s something I need to discuss with you."

For some reason, even though she didn’t know him well, hearing him say Cherie was safe made Skylar Hayes feel a surprising sense of trust and relief.

She took a couple of steps closer, gestured for him to sit, and said with a smile, "President Quinn, please, have a seat." Then she sat down next to him.

Seth Quinn waited for her to be seated before sitting down himself. He looked at her with a sincere gaze. "My name is Seth Quinn. Please, just call me Seth."

Skylar Hayes nodded. ’My impression of him is still quite good.’ This young man was handsome and carried himself with a dignified air. Although he seemed a bit cold, he was polite and not arrogant.

’If Clara could find a boyfriend like him, I could rest easy.’

"Alright, Seth. What did you want to talk to me about?"

Seth Quinn pursed his lips, watching her for a moment before deciding to get straight to the point. "Clara and I registered our marriage this morning. So, I am now, in name, your son-in-law."

He knew Clara Grant wasn’t committed to this marriage. Her not telling her mother was a way of leaving herself an out, thinking that if they divorced later, it could be done without anyone ever knowing. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Since he knew her intentions, he had no intention of giving her that opportunity.

If she wouldn’t say it, he would.

"What did you say?" Even though she had just been wishing Clara could find a boyfriend like him, Skylar Hayes was still taken aback by his words.

’There’s a world of difference between a boyfriend and a husband!’

Besides, she’d never even heard Clara mention that they were dating. How could she possibly remain calm when he suddenly announced they were already married?

"You must be joking, right? How is that possible?"

Seth Quinn didn’t answer. Instead, he took a marriage certificate from his jacket pocket and handed it to her. "If you don’t believe me, you can take a look at this."

Skylar Hayes opened it. A photo of Clara and Seth Quinn together stared up at her. She examined the document over and over for a long time until she was certain it was real, only then did she look back at Seth Quinn.

"Something this important... why didn’t Clara tell me?"

"Please, don’t be upset. Actually, there’s a reason Clara didn’t tell you. She didn’t want to marry me. I had to resort to certain tactics to compel her to."

"Cherie... he’s actually my sister’s son. My nephew. He doesn’t have a congenital heart defect. I had him fake the illness to put Clara in a difficult position with the high medical fees, forcing her to agree to marry me."

"But while my methods weren’t exactly honorable, I can promise you this: I will treat her well for the rest of my life. Now that I’ve married her, I will never abandon her."

"She might not love me now, but who knows what the future holds for matters of the heart? Maybe she’ll fall for me soon. It’s a gamble I’m willing to take."

"That’s why I’m hoping for your blessing. And that’s why I came to tell you everything."

As she listened to him, the deep furrow in Skylar Hayes’s brow gradually smoothed out. By the time he finished, her expression had returned to a state of calm.

While she didn’t approve of Seth Quinn using deception and coercion to force her daughter’s hand, she couldn’t deny that his frank and sincere words had moved her.
