A Night of Desire-Chapter 127: Why Not Tell Her Sooner?
He looked up, and Clara Grant was already in front of him in a flash. She tossed the first-aid kit in front of him. "Shoot, shoot, shoot. Why don’t you take care of this yourself? I’m out of time."
’How could I have forgotten? Mom and Cherie are still at the hospital waiting for me to bring them dinner. It’s all this damn beast’s fault! Why did he have to get the sudden urge to have me treat him to a meal?’
’*She* had eaten, sure, but now there was no way she’d have time to cook for Mom and Cherie.’
’Whatever. I’ll just have to buy some takeout and bring it to them.’
With that thought, Clara Grant turned to leave. As she walked, she pulled out her phone, getting ready to call her mother.
But before she could even reach the foyer, Seth Quinn’s leisurely voice sounded from behind her. "In a hurry to bring dinner to the hospital?"
Clara Grant stopped in her tracks. She turned and looked at him, astonished. "How do you know that?"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you." Seth Quinn placed his glass of water on the table, then looked up at her. "Your mother called while you were asleep on the way here."
"You answered it?" Clara Grant’s heart skipped a beat. She wasn’t ready to tell her mother that she and Seth Quinn were married.
Seth Quinn naturally understood her concern, but he just raised an eyebrow and deliberately asked, "Were you hoping I answered, or were you afraid I did?"
"Of course I was afraid you did! I’m not ready to tell my mom about us yet. What if she found out a man was with me while I was asleep and got the wrong idea?" Clara Grant blurted out, her anxiety getting the better of her.
As her words faded, Seth Quinn’s expression darkened. ’It seems she’s really resistant to accepting that we’re a married couple. So much so that she wants to hide it even from the person she’s closest to.’
"We’re married. That’s an indisputable fact. Besides, this marriage isn’t just for a moment—it’s for a lifetime. You might be able to hide it for a while, but do you plan on keeping it from her forever? Since you have to tell her eventually, why not get it over with?"
Hearing the unhappiness in his voice, Clara Grant surprisingly felt a pang of guilt. "I... I’m afraid she’s not mentally prepared. For something this huge, you have to break it to her gently."
Then, she muttered under her breath, "Besides, who’s to say it’s for a lifetime? We could get married today and divorced tomorrow for all I know."
"What did you say?"
Her voice was too quiet for Seth Quinn to hear the last part clearly.
"Nothing," Clara Grant deflected, stomping her foot lightly. She bit her lip. "Look, did you answer the phone or not?"
Watching her act like that, Seth Quinn actually found it cute, like a pouting little girl. Half of the frustration in his heart instantly dissipated, and he leaned back leisurely on the sofa.
’She hasn’t accepted me yet, but that’s fine. After all, we only registered our marriage today. I have a lifetime for her to slowly come around.’ 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"I didn’t answer. I just sent her a text pretending to be you, saying that something urgent came up at school and you’d asked someone else to bring them food."
"Someone else?"
"Don’t worry. It was one of my men."
"Oh, okay. That’s good."
Clara Grant finally relaxed, breathing a sigh of relief.
Seth Quinn watched her with an unreadable expression, then glanced at the first-aid kit she had tossed aside. "Weren’t you going to treat my wound? Are you going to wait for it to scab over before you get to it?"
"Oh!" Clara Grant snapped out of it and hurried over to him. She opened the first-aid kit, but when she looked at his right hand, she saw that the wound had already scabbed over.
’Of course it had. An entire afternoon has passed. It would be weirder if it *hadn’t* scabbed over.’
She couldn’t help but glare up at Seth Quinn, only to find him staring right back at her, a playful smirk dancing on his lips.
