Chapter 115: The Beast God (1)

"But that’s besides the point." Liz continued, unaware of Serena’s thoughts. It gazed up at her and said, "The point is we need to use this second chance to help others. Pay for all the sins we’ve committed, even if we’re scared to do it."

Serena, however, could barely register the words Liz was saying. She was too focused on the fact that Liz’s soul was the original owner of the body she was currently in.

Meaning the original owner had made some kind of deal with the system’s creator. But what exactly was that deal and how was it made? Was it before the original owner died? And how did she get wrapped up in all of this?

"Are you listening?" Liz asked, realizing that Serena was no longer hearing it. "Hey Sere-"

"Your name is Serena, right?" Serena suddenly stated, eyes staring intensely at Liz. "You’re the original owner of this body."

Liz tilted its head, opening its mouth to speak when a blindingly bright light flashed between the two. Serena shut her eyes on instinct, arms moving to cover her face. She then felt her body jolt, only to touch something soft a moment later.

Serena slowly opened her eyes as a voice murmured, "You two are really troublesome."

Serena found herself sitting on something white and fluffy, Liz a few inches away from her still in its snake form. It lay on the fluffy ground, eyes closed and completely still. Breathing, so Serena didn’t panic too much.

Instead, she started taking in her surroundings, trying to figure out where they were. What was going on. Around them were massive white marble arches wrapped with vines.

All sorts of flowers and fruits hung from the vines, all different shapes and colors. Her eyes shifted to where the voice had come from and she found herself staring at a throne made from a giant tree.

And on the throne sat a lanky man, almost androgynous looking and one of the most beautiful men she’d ever laid eyes on. His golden eyes blazed brightly as he stared back at her, a small smile on his face.

He wore a simple animal fur skirt, his long vine-like hair covering most of his body. And peeking from his long hair were two pointed ears. It was almost as if Serena was looking at a fabled Fae from one of Earth’s ancient tales.

"Who are yo-" Serena questioned, her hand moving to the side in order to retrieve her bone knife.

Only to find she couldn’t connect with her subspace and retrieve her knife. The man tilted his head at her moments before shaking his head, the sound of leaves rustling as he moved.

"Don’t bother summoning your weapon here." The man stated. "It will do nothing against a god."

Serena paled at his words. A god? Did that mean that the man before he was the creator of the system? Perhaps the Beast God... Or maybe one of those other unknown gods.

The man’s eyes gleamed at Serena, his smile widening a bit to show sharp canines. "I see it was pointless trying to hold information back from such a curious mortal... Then again I was warned about it."

Serena blinked at his words. Did he just read her mind? No, that wasn’t possible. No one had that kind of ability. It wasn’t possible.

"Hah... I created everything, even this realm, and yet you still doubt my abilities." The man sighed, resting his head on his fisted hand. "Mortals are quite interesting... No wonder Asdea kept breaking the rules." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Who are you?" Serena questioned once more, her head buzzing.

She had to be hallucinating, gone mad from that fight with Liz. She couldn’t be sitting in front of some god, whoever he was. Especially not the creator of the system. It seemed too soon.

"Hmm... It’s quite funny how delusional some of you are." The man pursed his lips. "But to answer your question, I believe you mortals call me the Beast God."

Beast God? As in the creator of the beast world. Ruler of all things. That Beast God?! No, Serena didn’t want to believe that. It couldn’t be.

"That’s the one." The Beast God nodded his head.

"But how is this possible?" Serena exclaimed. "How could you be here? We were just..."

"I summoned you into one of my hidden realms and revealed a fragment of myself to you. After all, showing you my true self would likely kill you. Not that it’s really possible to show myself all at once since I’m everything and everywhere all at once." The Beast God explained. "As for why you’re here, it seems you two can’t stop being troublesome.

"I was hoping you’d just complete those system missions and get on with your life, but I should’ve known better. You were going to figure out who was behind the system eventually. So, I guess I’m trying to save myself some more future trouble."

"I don’t understand..." Serena murmured aloud.

Her mind was still having trouble comprehending the situation she was in right now. She could understand what the man, no god, before her was saying.

But it was so hard to believe.

She’d never believed in divine being and while this world had proven that they did exist, her mind still couldn’t process it. Refused to acknowledge it. But now it had to. There was undeniable proof before her.

And yet here she was trying to find a way to deny it all.

"You really are one doubtful mortal." The Beast God mused, silently watching her inner turmoil.

"Then tell me why you brought us here?" Serena questioned. "What deal did you make with Liz and why did you choose me to be your pawn?"

"So many questions, but I suppose I should answer them. That’s why I brought you here after all." The Beast God murmured. "Perhaps then you’ll stop questioning my motives and go poking your head in places it’s not meant to be."

Serena narrowed her eyes at his words. "And what would those motives be?"

"Correcting a mistake for me."
