A Luna for Alpha Kieran-Chapter 15: Normal? What?
Chapter 15: Normal? What?
The infirmary doors clicked shut behind Dax as he hurried outside to check the commotion, leaving Mango alone in the blood scented silence.
But the moment the faint sound of retreating footsteps vanished down the corridor, Mango’s expression changed. Her playful smirk dropped, replaced by a cold, brooding frown.
Her fingers twitched at her sides, still humming with residual magic. The Blue Flame’s chill clung to her skin.
With a sharp exhale, she raised her hand and traced a jagged symbol in the air. The rune glowed crimson before splitting open. A tiny, rippling portal no larger than her palm, suspended between dimensions, appeared. On the other side, darkness pulsed, then solidified into a masked face. The features were obscured by shifting shadows, but the voice that emerged was crisp...commanding to some extent.
" Long time no see, Mango! You got news? "
Mango bowed low, her voice barely above a whisper. " Kieran was injured badly. But he lives. He was stabbed in the heart by a Demon blade! "
A beat of silence.
Then the voice almost gasped, "Impossible."
"I saw it myself," Mango insisted, fingers tightening around her staff. "The corruption was unmistakable. Blackened veins, flesh rotting from the inside. No ordinary blade does that.I had to summon the Blue Flames to cleanse myself. It was not a dormant demon knife...it was pretty much active. The corruption would have gotten me as well, had I not cleansed myself in time. I feel very exhausted." Mango sighed.
The masked figure leaned closer, the shadows around their face writhing. "An active Demon Blade? And yet he survived?"
Mango hesitated. Her gaze flicked to Autumn’s unconscious form, the girl’s chest rising and falling steadily. Too rhythmic."I suspect... she healed him."
The shadows stilled. "Explain."
"The wound should have killed him instantly, like we know. She was the only one around and was able to keep his heart beating, till I was called. But when I sealed it, there were traces of foreign energy...visible flakes. Gold, like sunlight trapped under his skin. It fought the corruption.I clearly saw it.And I saw those flakes dancing around the girl, shimmering under her skin. " She swallowed hard. "You were right. Isolde’s bloodline wasn’t wiped out after all."
A low, humming sound vibrated through the portal. "And this girl? What do you know of her?"
"Nothing concrete," Mango admitted. "She is...was a rogue. No pack, no history. But Kieran..." She paused, lips thinning. "He is digging. Quietly. I have seen the reports he has requested...old territory maps, bloodline archives. He suspects something about her as well.He is actively tracing her roots back..."
"Get me those reports."
"It won’t be easy. He keeps them locked in his private study, warded. But if he wakes and questions her himself,he would get more details,I guess. However,I don’t know why he isn’t doing that and digging in secret. "
"Then ensure that he doesn’t. Not yet." The voice sharpened. "We need to know what she is before he does.If she is really a descendant of Isolde..."
Mango opened her mouth to respond but just then..
Thud.Thud... Thud.
Hurried footsteps. Close. Very close.
Her head snapped towards the door. The portal snapped shut with a hiss, vanishing as if it had never been.
The infirmary doors burst open. A young warrior, probably a Delta in training, barely more than a pup...staggered in, his face streaked with dirt and blood. "Healer Mango! The borders...Bloodfangs breached the eastern ridge! They are pushing towards the infirmary!"
Mango’s spine straightened, her stoic demeanor sliding back into place. "How many?"
"A dozen, maybe more. Dax is holding them off, but..."
" Just a dozen? And they breached the border and overcame all our patrols? "
" Yes! That’s the thing. Their strength doesn’t seem normal. It looks like they are drunk on something. A power potion or booster... we are not sure. It’s taking us more than ten soldiers to hold each one down... in our own pack. It looks terrible... "
"Reinforcements?"
"On the way. But we need extra guards here. If by chance they get to the Alpha before reinforcement arrives. "
"They won’t." Mango strode forward, her staff slamming against the floor. Runes flared to life beneath her feet, spiraling outward in glowing threads. "Go. Tell Dax I have sealed the infirmary temporarily. Nothing gets in or out without my permission. But ask him to make it fast.I have already almost exhausted myself.I won’t be able to hold the enchantments much longer. "
The warrior nodded and bolted back into the chaos.
Alone again, Mango turned to Kieran’s still form. His chest rose and fell.
Her fingers brushed the edge of his wound, where the faintest shimmer of gold pulsed beneath blackened flesh.
"Are you really related to Isolde,Autumn?" she murmured...not to him, but to the girl lying motionless beside him.
Outside, the howls of battle grew louder.
Mango’s grip tightened on her staff because she knew...the chaos outside was just the beginning.

While outside...the eastern ridge was a slaughterhouse,Dax’s boots skidded through mud and blood as he parried a dagger aimed for his throat. The Bloodfang minion snarled, eyes wild...pupils blown wide, veins straining beneath his skin. Something was wrong with them... he knew the moment he saw them... but he was still trying to figure out what... and look for their weakness... a weak spot.
"Die, filth of a Beta...losers!" the wolf spat, swinging again.
Dax ducked, but not fast enough. The blade grazed his shoulder, splitting flesh to the bone. He barely felt it. Adrenaline burned through him, sharper than the pain.
"What the hell’s wrong with you?" Dax growled, driving his own dagger up under the wolf’s ribs. But the man did not even stagger. Just laughed, blood frothing between his teeth.
" You are attacking a sovereign pack, unprovoked. This will not go down well with the Council... and mark my words... you dared to enter and cause mayhem in Alpha Kieran’s absence...he will burn the last one of your..."
Oh, fuck.
Behind him, the Blackmoon warriors were falling. Three of his best men wrestled a single Bloodfang fighter to the ground, only for the bastard to heave them off like they weighed nothing. Bones snapped. A scream cut short.
"They are juiced on something!" one of his gammas yelled, barely dodging a clawed hand aimed for his eyes. "It’s like fighting fucking ghouls!"
Dax did not have time to respond. Another Bloodfang lunged at him. This one was missing an ear, half his face melted like wax. What the fuck kind of potion does that?
He sidestepped, but the wolf twisted midair, sinking teeth into Dax’s forearm. Hot blood sprayed. Dax roared, slamming his knee into the bastard’s gut. Ribs cracked. The bastard giggled, still chewing.
"Get the fuck off me!" Dax grabbed him by his hair and yanked. Skin tore. The Bloodfangs’ scalp peeled away like wet paper, but he did not let go. Just kept biting.
Dax drove his dagger into his eye.
The body finally dropped.
Panting, Dax staggered back. His vision swam. Blood dripped from his arm, his shoulder, a gash on his thigh he did not remember taking.
Around him, the fight raged...Blackmoon warriors falling, Bloodfang fighters shrugging off wounds that should have killed them.
"Hold the line!" Dax bellowed. "Don’t let them near the infirmary!"
A Bloodfang woman..her arms lined with self inflicted cuts...leaped onto a Blackmoon soldier’s back. Her fingers dug into his eye sockets. The man shrieked as she pulled.
Dax was moving before he thought. He tackled her, driving her into the dirt. She hissed, nails raking his chest. He punched her throat. Cartilage crunched. She coughed, but her smile did not fade.
"You are already dead," she gurgled. "We all are. But we will take your Alpha with us.This will be the end of the Blackmoon!"
Dax’s blood went cold.
They were not just attacking. They were a fucking suicide squad.
He snapped her neck.
Another wolf barreled into him. Dax rolled, but the bastard was fast, fists hammering his ribs. Something cracked. Dax tasted copper. He hooked his legs around the Bloodfangs’ waist and flipped him, driving an elbow into his windpipe.
The man wheezed...then exploded into motion, clawing at Dax’s face.
"Fuck!" Dax barely got an arm up in time. Nails shredded his forearm to the muscle. He headbutted the Bloodfang. Bone crunched. The man reeled... and Dax ripped out his throat with his teeth.
Blood filled his mouth.Too hot and metallic. Not the usual taste of blood.
The Bloodfang gurgled, collapsing. Dax spat, wiping his face. His breath came in ragged gasps. His body screamed.
But the Bloodfangs kept coming.
"Dax!"
He turned. One of his warriors was on his knees, a Bloodfang’s claws buried in his gut. The Bloodfang was grinning, twisting his hand deeper.
Dax moved.
He did not remember crossing the distance.
Just the thud of his body slamming into the wolf, the snap of the bastard’s spine as he drove him into a tree. The rascal gasped, but Dax did not stop. He grabbed his wrist and bent until bone jutted through skin.
The Bloodfang screamed.
Dax silenced him with a fist to the jaw. Teeth shattered.
"Kael..." Dax dropped beside his warrior,a devoted Gamma.
Kael was pale, hands pressed to his stomach. Blood seeped between his fingers. "They are... not normal," he choked. "It’s like they are... fucking possessed."
Dax’s jaw clenched. "Stay down. I will get..."
But before he could finish... a howl cut through the night.
The Bloodfangs froze. Then, as one, their heads snapped towards the infirmary.
Dax followed their gaze.
