A Luna for Alpha Kieran-Chapter 122: Undecided...
Chapter 122: Undecided...
Kieran’s head snapped the moment their mind link twitched!
Vera?!
The thread of her voice cracked through after a moment’s delay in the stream. "Alpha!Alpha... HELP!"
A low growl rumbled in Kieran’s throat. Damn!
They got Vera already? Damn shit!
He pivoted, moving into the shadows. "Vera? Can you hear me?" No answer.
He pushed past handlers and some buyers who were in the middle of taking their seats...barely blinking as he slithered behind the viewing pillars.
His heart pounded and chest tightened with every breath. So close... he was so close to finding her... he almost felt it... and now this. Nah! Not happening.
From behind the metal grates, he saw Vera.
She was already surrounded. But was still standing...well,barely.
Her hood was gone. Her hair hung tangled over her shoulders. Her cloak had already been stripped from her. One of the handlers grabbed her roughly by the arm and began dragging her towards the center ring...The central circular stage like area.
"LET GO!" Vera still held her head high, twisting in his grip. "You have no idea who I am!"
The crowd stirred, sensing the shift as she was being dragged further. The auction’s preparations paused. Eyes turned.
"What in the name of the Moon is happening now? "
An amused voice chuckled. "We are about to find out."
Another added, "Time for some extra fun before the next bidding.I guess!"
Vera spat to the side, even as her hands were shackled and her tunic was sliced open at the seams, baring her shoulders and part of her side. She laughed.
Actually laughed. "You are going to regret this."
"Is that so?" sneered a handler, grabbing a fistful of her hair.
"You are making an example of the wrong woman," she tried to purr, her voice like honey...as if laced with venom. "Unless of course... you are just trying to compensate for something small and shriveled?"
That earned her a loud slap across the face.
She staggered back and laughed harder.
Kieran pressed his knuckles into the wall. His jaw clenched.
"Gentlemen," Vera cooed with a crooked smile as blood dripped from the corner of her lips. "You don’t want to do this. I work for someone powerful. Very powerful. My assignment was sanctioned by someone far above your pay grade."
One of the handlers leaned forward. "Names. Give us the name. Maybe we will go easy on you."
Vera’s lip curled. She didn’t speak.
Another handler stepped forward and punched her in the stomach. She doubled over, coughing."GIVE. US. NAMES.BITCH."
And then...she looked up... Through swollen lashes, her gaze locked with Kieran’s across the Hall. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
He was frozen in place. His chest was heaving. His claws pressed into his own palms as he debated... calculated...
This one was a mission for one girl...his girl...Autumn.He had reluctantly risked everything to find her.
But Vera was going to die if he didn’t intervene here! She followed him into this willingly and had actually helped him...selflessly for once. He couldn’t just stand there and watch her die.
Vera held his eyes.
And through the mind link, she smiled as she whispered. "Don’t come for me, Alpha. I am not worth your mission. Not worth risking her life. You are not my hero. Just a man with a broken heart..." Kieran saw them tugging and shoving parts of her body. "...but just so you know..."
Her lips parted a little, "If I die tonight, I’d be happy I was able to redeem my sins... " She grinned, even as they tore the rest of her outer tunic from her back.
Kieran flinched.
The crowd roared in delight as another blow struck her ribs.
And Vera?
She spat blood. "Is that all you have got?" she barked. "Pathetic...I have been kissed harder."
One of the handlers raised a whip. Another raised a dagger. The crowd screamed for blood.
"Kill her!"
"No! Break her first!"
"Cut her tongue out!"
"Make her talk!"
A particularly tall handler closed in. "Last chance. Who. Sent. You?"
Vera’s eyes...scanned the crowd again. Then locked onto Kieran’s once more.
For a heartbeat, the world narrowed to that single glance.
"Don’t you dare,Alpha..." Her voice cracked through the mindlink. "You go find her...leave me.Go..."
Kieran froze.
The handler shook her...hard. "SPEAK!"
Vera’s lips curled into a bloody smile. "Fine. You want a name?" She paused, dragging it out, savoring the way the crowd leaned in, with a wicked grin.
Then she spat... "Your mother ,dumbass!!"
The hall exploded.
Some laughed. Some snarled. Some clapped too hard and jeered even...
The handler’s face twisted in rage as he motioned to the others. "Peel her skin until she sings."
Kieran gritted his teeth so hard he tasted iron.
His body was trembling.
"Damn.Damn it all."
And then he sprang forth. He shifted in the middle of his jump.
With a tearing growl, bones snapped and fur burst forth. His cloak exploded around him as the majestic wolf launched from the shadows, fangs bared.
Screams erupted as he ripped through the first handler, tearing flesh from the man’s neck. The next fell with a yelp...his skull crushed between Kieran’s jaws. Buyers scrambled. Chains rattled. Blood sprayed across the central stage.
"IT’S A LYCAN KING!An Alpha! " someone screamed.
But it was too late.Kieran was already on the stage, tearing apart the final guard with a single swipe of his claws. The handler’s body sailed off the platform and crashed into the auction table below.
Vera was curled on the ground, shaking.
Kieran shifted back mid motion...his skin knitted, muscle twisted...until he was standing there, panting, naked from the waist up, blood running down his arm. His chest heaved as he dropped to her side.
She blinked up at him, tears spilling silently now. It seemed like her bravado had cracked.
Kieran said nothing.
He yanked the shredded remains of his shirt and wrapped it around her body, tucking it tight against her bruised skin.
"Can you stand?" he growled.
Vera stared at him, her eyes wide. Then, without warning, she lunged forward...burying her face in his bare chest, her fingers clutching his arms.
She pressed herself closer into him.
Another sob broke from her lips.
Kieran’s hand awkwardly patted her back, jaw clenched. "It’s alright," he muttered hoarsely."We are going to get out of here."
