Chapter 291: Chapter 291: Luoxia City

"Because that Black Dragon is looking for someone—a female."

There are many cities on BC-27-E Star, but the one with the most females is Mengxia City.

You can tell just from the name; both the city and the gang were established by a female.

That female is a rare A-level female from Chaotic Star. When she arrived on this planet many years ago, she was already accompanied by several powerful mates.

I heard the reason they came to this planet is because that female, named Shen Mengxia, had a child who died at the hands of another A-level female.

She couldn’t accept the final verdict for the other female, so in a fit of anger, she took her mates and renounced her country.

After arriving on this planet, she established Mengxia City as a place to settle.

At first, there was no Luoxia Gang. But the cruelty of Chaotic Star made Shen Mengxia understand that her family alone could not survive peacefully here.

And so, the Luoxia Gang was formed.

The three cities under this gang’s jurisdiction are all unconditionally open to females.

This is especially true for Beastman females. If they live in Luoxia City, they can receive many special privileges. The only price is finding three mates for themselves, either in the city or outside of it.

This was very tempting to many oppressed females.

Later, females began to leave their respective factions one after another to join Luoxia City.

With each female able to bind three males to the city, Luoxia City slowly grew stronger and stronger.

Now, whenever a male thinks about getting married, the first place that comes to mind is Luoxia City.

And for those who want to live a peaceful life, there’s only Luoxia City.

Although the Fox Ear youth’s analysis made a lot of sense, the man who appeared to be the group’s leader seemed to have some doubts.

"Not all females are in Luoxia City. What if that female isn’t there?"

The Fox Ear youth was speechless. "Boss, what does it matter to us where the female is? We just need to know that the Black Dragon will definitely go check out Luoxia City."

"We just have to lie in wait, and we’ll definitely find him. As for where the female is, that’s something for the Black Dragon to worry about."

The boss thought it over and had to agree. ’The kid really does have a good head on his shoulders.’

’He knew he wasn’t good at thinking things through, which was why he tolerated this mutt fox hanging around.’

’After all, everyone says Beastmen with fox Genes are clever. He didn’t want one who was *too* clever, afraid he wouldn’t be able to keep him in line.’

’This Half-beastman, though, was just right.’

"Alright, we’ll head to Luoxia City tomorrow. While that Black Dragon is injured, we’ll take him down!"

"Brilliant, Boss!"

"Whatever you say, Boss."

"Here, drink up..."

There was no longer any need to eavesdrop on the rest of their conversation, but Jiang Qin stayed put until almost nine o’clock.

She then followed the crowd toward the church.

The bar shut its doors. No matter who you were, you had to go to the church at nine o’clock every night. That was the rule in Red Leaf City.

Anyone who failed to arrive on time, if caught, would be treated as an apostate.

***

After arriving at the church, Jiang Qin sat down in a corner of the fifth row.

It was the same as always: a tedious reading from a fragmented bible, then praying with eyes closed.

Usually, if nothing special was happening, everyone could leave after this.

But today, as luck would have it, was an eventful one.

The black-robed figure said in a kind and gentle voice, "Today is Confession Day. I will now select a few of God’s favored children to come up and confess their sins, and I will pray for God’s forgiveness on your behalf."

"Mr. Fuer Walker, why don’t you come up first."

A slightly chubby middle-aged man from the third row stood up, bowed to the black-robed figure, then turned to face the crowd and said in a grief-stricken voice:

"In my life, I have done many evil deeds. I’ve murdered, robbed, trafficked female cubs, and tortured and killed males. I’ve done it all."

"When I learned that the sins I committed would send me to hell, I felt deep regret."

"I want to ask for God’s forgiveness so that I won’t go to hell after I die. Therefore, I am willing to donate a million Star Coins to beg for my Lord’s pardon."

A donation ceremony followed.

Jiang Qin was speechless.

’So this whole charade is just a legitimate-sounding excuse to fleece people.’

Just as she’d suspected, the black-robed figure proceeded to call up several more of "God’s favored children" to confess their sins. Without exception, all of them were newcomers to Red Leaf City.

It wasn’t long before she was called.

Jiang Qin didn’t want to cause any trouble, so she followed their example, rattling off a few generic lines before pulling out her money. It wasn’t much—only two thousand Star Coins.

She could clearly see the black-robed figure’s expression darken. After all, his face was the only thing visible under the hood.

The black-robed figure said benevolently, "Child, the Lord only forgives those who truly repent."

’The subtext was clear: her donation was too small.’

Jiang Qin feigned helplessness, putting on a pained expression as she pleaded poverty. "I dare not ask for the Lord’s forgiveness. I am a useless male, and I can only offer this small amount of Star Coins to atone for my sins through good deeds."

"But this is the most I can offer. I didn’t even keep enough Star Coins to buy nutrient liquid."

The crowd remained silent. Though the black-robed figure looked displeased, he didn’t press her, merely telling her to return to her seat in a flat voice.

But she didn’t let her guard down in the slightest.

’She knew it. She was a target now.’

’Whether I’d donated a lot or a little, this group never intended to let me off easy.’

’If I’d donated a lot, it would’ve proved I was a fat sheep ready for shearing. If I donated too little, it was a blatant show of disrespect to their Heavenly Gang.’

’So either way, I would’ve been targeted.’

Jiang Qin had no desire to feed her money to these people. The two thousand Star Coins were just to deny them an excuse to make a move on her within the city walls.

’After all, they style themselves as believers in God. They couldn’t possibly stoop to something like public robbery.’

Just as she had expected, the black-robed figure didn’t confront her then and there.

...

The prayer ceremony for the evening concluded after the newcomers had been thoroughly fleeced.

Jiang Qin followed the stream of people back to her small rented room.

She had already decided to leave Red Leaf City tomorrow, so she planned to get a good night’s rest and recover her strength.

However, in the middle of the night, she suddenly woke up, on alert.

Someone was walking softly toward her location. She just didn’t know if, in the dead of night, they were simply passing by or coming for her.

It wasn’t until a soft knock sounded on her door that she knew for sure: they were here for her.

"Who is it?" Jiang Qin asked in a low, cautious voice.

"Sir, it’s me, Xiaojie."

Jiang Qin didn’t open the door, only asking through it, "It’s the middle of the night. What is it?"

"Sir, I have new information for you."

"What information?" she asked, not letting her guard down.

"I know you’re planning to leave Red Leaf City tomorrow and head to Mengxia City."

It didn’t surprise Jiang Qin that he knew. After all, she had seen him eavesdropping at the same time she was.

"But I want to tell you, the Black Dragon isn’t in Mengxia City. I have concrete information, and I’d like to trade it for something else."

After a moment’s thought, Jiang Qin materialized an Alien Beast to lie in ambush behind the door, then opened it.
