Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Flying Car Race

The Federation was in a frenzy, the Myriad Races were used to it, and only the Empire remained silent.

After winning the championship, Jiang Qin’s heart was anything but calm.

She wanted to go out for a walk, but she was worried it wouldn’t be safe after dark and didn’t want to cause trouble for her bodyguards.

So, she opted to stay in her room and surf the internet.

Unlike the trending topics in the Federation, the top few topics in the Empire were, without a doubt, a flood of insults.

Karl was receiving the most flak.

[Don’t call him Master Karl anymore. Let’s call him Master Clown. clownface.jpg]

[So it turns out when they’re not cheating, these losers really can’t win!]

[Let’s have a round of applause for our Empire’s nine composers for handing the Federation a victory. The Federation surpassing the Empire is just around the corner! thumbs_up.jpg]

[And to all you traitors who voted for the Federation people: since you love hanging out with those of inferior Genes so much, how about you hurry up and get the hell out of the Empire?]

[Can you guys sleep tonight? I know I can’t. The Federation people probably can’t either, but that’s because they’re too busy celebrating.]

[It was only one loss, but the humiliation is off the charts!]

[What’s the rush, everyone? There’s still the box office battle in October. They just got lucky. Come October, we’ll put them back in their place.]

[And don’t forget this month’s Flying Car race. What are they gonna compete with, their obsolete models?]

...

’The Flying Car race?’

Jiang Qin knew about this competition.

It was also broadcast live, and just like the composing competition, it was an event where the Federation was crushed every time.

A quick look at the date told her it was starting in just three days.

’I wonder how it’ll go this year.’

Realizing she had never seen a race like this before, she felt a sudden urge to go watch it in person.

No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than she decided to act on it. The bar wasn’t ready to open yet anyway, so she could stay for about a week.

That would be just enough time to catch a few races.

After leaving the *Interstellar Composer* venue, Bai Mufeng, Lan Shaoyu, and Gu Tianyou didn’t wander around the city, instead heading straight back to their hotel.

That’s right—their mission in the Empire was to participate in the Flying Car race.

Their team was led by an officer who had competed three times before.

When the trio got back to the hotel, they expected their teammates to be asleep. To their surprise, they found everyone gathered in their commanding officer’s room, drinking Inhibitors.

Gu Tianyou joked, "What’s this? Did you all go berserk today or something? What got you so worked up?"

"Heh heh, not worked up, just happy! We wanted to drink some alcohol-flavored Inhibitors to celebrate!"

"What’s got you all so happy?"

A blond-haired man looked at him in surprise. "It’s because our Federation’s composer won the competition this year, of course.

Holy crap, Brother Tianyou, don’t tell me you don’t know?"

Gu Tianyou burst out laughing. "Of course I know! Because I was there in person!"

"What?! You mean when you, Yu, and Brother Mufeng went out today, you went to watch the show live?"

"Ahhh! Why didn’t you tell us?"

"If we’d known you were there, we would’ve asked you to get an autograph from Miss Jiang!"

"Yu! Yu! Is Miss Jiang as beautiful in person as she looks on the broadcast?"

"Yeah, yeah! And is it true she’s never been to school? She doesn’t seem like it at all, especially with how well she writes her songs!"

A smile touched Lan Shaoyu’s lips as he answered their questions one by one. After all, he was the most personable of the three.

"Yes, she’s probably even more beautiful in person than on camera."

"We couldn’t get an autograph, though. We weren’t able to get close to her."

Ever since she was kidnapped, no one was allowed to get close to her. Forget about getting near her in the unfamiliar Empire; even in that small bar, people were forbidden from approaching the young woman.

She has quite a few capable people around her. That bar owner, in particular, has some serious backing.

"As for whether she’s really never been to school, I’m not sure either.

It wouldn’t be surprising if she hadn’t. After all, the world has never been short on self-taught geniuses."

The blond-haired man’s face was full of envy. "I’d love to meet Miss Jiang just once..."

"If you want to meet her, then you’d better get your heads in the game and win this competition. Why would she ever want to meet a man who would turn around and immediately lose the honor she just won for us?"

Hearing the officer’s words, no one was laughing anymore.

The light in the blond-haired man’s eyes dimmed.

Gu Tianyou ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "What’s with those long faces? Don’t tell me you haven’t even thought about winning?"

"Brother Tianyou, their Flying Cars are already the T900 series. We’re still using T500s. How are we supposed to win...?"

The man’s voice was filled with helplessness.

It wasn’t that the Federation lacked the researchers to develop new Flying Cars. The problem was that the Empire controlled the materials needed to produce their core energy source, making it impossible for them to manufacture any.

The core energy units salvaged from obsolete models had their own load limits and couldn’t be overclocked.

So, they had the technology but lacked the resources to produce the T900.

They could only pilot these obsolete models in the race, pitting them against the Empire’s newer Flying Cars.

"So what? What have we been training so hard for all this time?"

"Who says an obsolete model has to lose to the latest one?" Gu Tianyou scoffed.

A smile lit up Lan Shaoyu’s eyes as he said gently, "One of the judges today said something very true: a cold, unfeeling machine can never replace a human.

If the Flying Car race was just about performance, why not just have two robots compete against each other?

The difference between us and robots is that we have brains. We understand tactics."

"Shaoyu’s right. If we’re lacking in performance, we have to make up for it with skill and strategy!"

On that topic of strategy, the room full of men launched into a multifaceted discussion.

Meanwhile, Jiang Qin, unable to sleep, was suddenly struck by inspiration.

The Flying Car race reminded her of an anime she had once watched.

*Initial D*.

The AE86 on the mountain pass at dawn!

The Racing God of Akina!

A total adrenaline rush!

Although Flying Cars and regular cars were two completely different things, she still felt that sports cars from Earth had more soul than Flying Cars.

The sound of tires screeching at top speed, the roar of an engine—it thrilled the senses in a way nothing else could!

’I’m in the Empire right now, and I can still release my work here,’ she thought. ’With the Flying Car race about to start, this is a great opportunity to rake in some reputation value.’

’Speaking of reputation value, I failed to level up again tonight.’

’I still have that one-billion reputation value gift pack in my inventory that I haven’t used yet.’

At that thought, Jiang Qin forgot all about the anime. Brimming with anticipation, she took out the large gift pack.

She didn’t open it right away. Instead, she made a wish!

"O great System, I want a manual for an offensive Superpower..."

’If I get another Spiritual Power Enhancement Liquid this time, I’ll probably reach SS-level.’

’And an SS-level female with only soothing abilities and no means of attack... I can’t even imagine how many powerful people would hunt me down if they ever found out!’

That’s why she desperately needed a way to protect herself.
