Chapter 62 - 62: Akashic Lorgica

"Naomi, come to my office." The first step to improving these numbers was getting rid of the waste. Most of it came from having too many employees who did absolutely fucking nothing, but I couldn't just fire everyone—I wanted a rotation system. If the employees couldn't get breaks, then their efficiency would tank.

Of course, I could just have two days where the office was closed, but then stuff would pile up... unless I had A.I. Actually...

'Having A.I. isn't that bad of a thing to consider.'

If implemented correctly, it could skyrocket the efficiency of the algorithm I had in mind. That way, I could pour more resources into security, research, and development.

"Ah, thanks."

"N-No problem, boss."

"No need to be nervous. I want an in-depth breakdown of the useful people from the useless people."

She jumped a bit, her shoulders tensing before her blue eyes flickered with a sudden blaze of confidence. With a quick breath, she tucked a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear and straightened her posture.

"You have to keep Issac, Issabella, and Chad. Those are the heads of security, research, and development. As for the others, I'd ask them about their specific employees. But for the people I know for a fact are bad, the list is..."

She launched into it—fast, detailed, relentless.

She rambled on for a whole five minutes. FIVE MINUTES!

'How many people is that?'

[325]

'S-So many useless people?'

[It seems so. I figure eliminating 300 is good. Remember the total employee sheet?]

'Yeah, it said this place employs 375 people. But Naomi's saying that 325 don't even do their jobs. I figure we just fire 325, leave 50, then hire an additional 50—giving us a total of 100.'

[Isn't that too complicated?]

'True. But what am I going to do with the people? Most of them already act like they can screw off.'

[Why not offer incentives?]

'You must've been bored these last couple of days.'

[You have no idea!]

"Pfft~!" I had to hurry to stop my laughter. Naomi looked at me strangely, but she didn't voice what was on her mind. I guess she didn't want to insult me—but not like I'd really care. I know I looked weird laughing for no apparent reason.

Calming down a bit, "Naomi, fire 300 people of your choice. And yes, say you have my authority. Do well enough, and I'll make you second to me."

"Yes, boss!" She rushed out, leaving me alone once again.

I got up from my chair, standing in front of the windows looking down at the outside. I sighed in relief that everything was going smoothly. Really, I thought today would be difficult—but it wasn't!

Ding~

[Kate❣️: Heyyy, how is everything going?]

[Me: Absolutely! I just finished the first part of everything. How about you, love?]

[Kate❣️: School was boring, and you weren't with me, so it's kind of bleh. Ophi, of course hehe~ I love her!]

[Me: Did she do something...]

'What did she do?' A chill crept down my spine. I shivered, instinctively tightening my grip on the phone. Knowing Ophi, it wouldn't surprise me if she'd done something outrageous just for fun or chaos.

[Kate❣️: Nothing~, she's just cute to mess with!]

[Me: Y-You were able to mess with her?! Is she okay?!]

[Kate❣️: W-WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!]

[Me: Ahem. N-Nothing.]

[Kate❣️: I UGHHH MEANIE!]

Warmly, I sent her a laughing emoji before setting my phone down. I was feeling kind of hungry but also didn't really know what I wanted to eat.

'I guess I could eat a hamburger and fries today! Oh wait.' I got my phone again and texted Mom to see what she was planning to make. I felt the sudden urge to be with them!

'Hamburgers? What a weird coincidence.'

With that settled, things just needed to get finished up here for the day. Oh? Naomi actually came back at the right time.

"Boss! I did it!"

I raised a brow, "Seriously? No issues?"

"Well, not exactly." She scratched her cheek awkwardly, her blue eyes looking to the side with clear intentions to avoid me.

"Hah~" I could only sigh, the weight of the day finally catching up in that one exhale.

"I got them out! But they threatened to leak our plans and security stuff."

"That's it?"

"What do you mean that's it?! That's important, right?!" Her voice spiked in pitch, hands balling into anxious fists at her sides.

I waved my hand, the motion lazy. "If I didn't plan to redo everything, then yeah. But I don't plan to keep or follow any of this place's previous decisions."

"Oh, I guess that's fine. Wait, huh?"

"Yeah, don't worry about it." I stepped forward, the soft thud of my footsteps echoing in the quiet office space. "We'll continue tomorrow. Just tell everyone still here to prepare for major changes."

I walked past her toward the elevator, the cool metal buttons reflecting the ceiling lights as I pressed one. The elevator let out a low chime and slid open with a mechanical hiss. She looked lost, stuck halfway between confusion and awe—her fingers twitching slightly at her sides.

I called out to her, and the sound of my voice snapped her into motion. She ran hurriedly over to me, her breath just a bit shallow, her steps quick but not desperate.

Feeling her gaze, I didn't even try to get on my phone. Instead, I gave her more instructions.

"Another thing—I'm changing the name of this place to Akashic Lorgica. As for the reason? I just felt like it."

She nodded, and it seemed like all her extra energy for reactions or surprises had long since run out. Today had been a crazy day for her—I'm sure of it—so it's probably good she's getting used to the chaos, albeit forcefully.

[Cool name, bro.]

'I know, right? The idea came to me when I learned what Lorgica meant.'

[I know. I'm literally with you 24/7.]

'Then why acknowledge it now...?'

['Cause I felt like it. Plus, I didn't know if you'd do a last-minute switch-up.]
