A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 95: The Third Critical Hit
Vivian Quincy followed the sound of the voice, her expression puzzled. "Is there anything in that brain of yours besides garbage?"
"What’s with your attitude?" Summer Jacobs lifted her delicate face and shouted indignantly.
Vivian Quincy said, "If you’d put even a sliver of that energy into your work, you wouldn’t still be a junior secretary on a basic salary after all these years with the company."
"Pfft!"
A few chuckles rippled through the office, and some colleagues who couldn’t hold it in any longer burst out laughing.
Everyone in the company knew that Summer Jacobs’s performance was the worst in the entire department, which was why she had the lowest salary and the lightest workload. And it was precisely because she had so much free time that she had the energy to mock others.
Furious, Summer Jacobs strode toward her. But Vivian Quincy simply picked up a file from her desk, used it to push the advancing woman away, and said, "The CEO is waiting for this file. You can’t afford to be responsible for delaying him."
Summer Jacobs was nearly knocked over, but she didn’t dare block Vivian’s path.
Entering the CEO’s office, Vivian Quincy placed the file on the desk. "You have a meeting in ten minutes. These are the required materials, all prepared for you."
Jasper Ford glanced over it briefly and said, "Have Caden Chandler go to the conference room first."
The young woman reminded him, "Sir, I’m the one in charge of this meeting."
"You stay here and look after Beanie. Caden can go." Jasper Ford closed the file and asked the adorable, well-behaved little boy beside him, "How does that sound, Beanie?"
"Thank you, Mr. Ford." Beanie happily threw himself into Jasper Ford’s arms, his eyes crinkling with a smile.
Jasper Ford’s heart melted at that warm smile. He carefully lifted Beanie onto his lap and gently poked his soft, rosy cheek. ’So fun.’
The more he held Beanie, the more he liked him. He smiled at Vivian Quincy and said, "Go downstairs and buy Beanie something to eat."
"Okay," Vivian Quincy nodded.
Beanie said, "Mr. Ford, can I go with Mom... Quincy?"
The man’s sharp brows lifted as he looked down in confusion.
Beanie wrapped his arms around Jasper Ford and said pitifully, "I want to choose for myself."
"You shouldn’t go out alone with strangers, understand?" Jasper Ford began to lecture Beanie in all seriousness. His stern tone made Vivian Quincy, standing nearby, feel exactly like a child trafficker!
Vivian Quincy was too embarrassed to say the child was her own flesh and blood, so she listened in silence.
Beanie, however, thought Jasper Ford was rejecting him. His eyes grew redder and redder, a thick film of moisture gathering in them...
"Alright, alright, you can go with her." Jasper Ford really couldn’t bear to see the little rascal cry, so he gave in helplessly.
Beanie was overjoyed. In his excitement, he scrambled up from Jasper Ford’s lap and planted a loud smooch on his cheek. "Thank you, Mr. Ford!"
Then, Beanie hopped off the man’s lap and ran to take Vivian Quincy’s hand. "Let’s go buy snacks."
"Okay." Vivian Quincy was quite happy too, and led Beanie out of the office.
Jasper Ford sat motionless in his chair, watching them leave. His cool hand gently wiped the spot on his cheek where Beanie had kissed him, a bright smile flickering in his eyes.
"That little rascal, he’s already learned how to act cute. Who taught him that?"
’Even though he hated being touched, Jasper Ford wasn’t the least bit repulsed by Beanie’s kiss. In fact, he found himself liking the little rascal even more. What was he to do? He suddenly had the urge to kidnap Beanie and take him home.’
With this thought in mind, Jasper Ford went to the conference room.
Meanwhile, Vivian Quincy followed Beanie to the nearest snack shop downstairs from the company.
Once she was sure no one they knew was around, Vivian Quincy crouched down, held Beanie by the shoulders, and asked softly, "Is your injury bad? Does it hurt a lot?"
"Mommy, I’m fine, I’m really okay." Beanie shook his head, stretching out his arms and legs. "See? I’m fine. I just bumped my head a little. It’ll be better in a few days."
"How can you be fine when there’s a lump?" Vivian Quincy’s heart ached. She gently cradled Beanie’s little face and kissed his forehead. "I’m sorry. It’s all my fault for being too busy to take care of you. Mommy will find a way to leave this company. Then I’ll find an easier job, and I can be with you all the time, okay?"
"Okay." Beanie nodded obediently and reached up to wipe the tears from the corner of Vivian Quincy’s eye. "Don’t cry, Mommy. It makes Beanie sad."
"You’re hurt yourself, and you’re still comforting me." Vivian Quincy found the little guy both amusing and endearing. She sniffled and went to buy Beanie his snacks.
They bought very little, because Beanie knew Vivian Quincy was paying. He was aware that his mother didn’t earn money easily, so he never dared to ask for too much. In the snack shop, he picked out only two boxes of mung bean cakes and insisted that was all he wanted.
Vivian Quincy asked, "You don’t want a little more?"
Beanie shook his head. "This is enough."
"Alright." Vivian Quincy took them to the register to pay.
After paying, the two of them went upstairs.
Beanie just wanted to be with Vivian Quincy. Instead of going back to Jasper Ford’s office, he stood beside her, looking at the dense piles of documents on her desk. "Do you have to organize all of these?"
"Mhm," Vivian Quincy nodded. "You go wait in Mr. Ford’s office first. I’ll be over soon."
"No, I want to stay here," Beanie refused.
Their conversation wasn’t loud, but it wasn’t quiet either, and a colleague across from them overheard. This person craned their neck and asked, "Vivian, is that the CEO’s little nephew?"
"No," Vivian Quincy shook her head.
Summer Jacobs, who had also overheard, walked over and sneered, "Everyone just heard him call the CEO ’uncle.’ What are you pretending for? Are you worried that if we’re all nice to the little nephew, you’ll feel threatened?"
Vivian Quincy said coldly, "What does this have to do with you?"
"Did you all hear that? Vivian Quincy has something to hide." Summer Jacobs announced loudly to the office before lowering her head to speak to Beanie. "Young Master, this woman next to you is not a good person. She’s a bad woman. She might even eat children. You’d better stay far away from her."
Beanie, who had been called "Young Master," blinked in confusion. But his focus wasn’t on that. It was on the fact that Summer Jacobs was insulting his mommy. ’He was angry!’
’Mommy is so nice, how could she eat children!’
"You’re the one who looks scary, Auntie," Beanie retorted bluntly.
Summer Jacobs’s mouth twitched violently. "A-Auntie?"
"Yeah, Auntie. You must be fifty, right? Scaring little kids at your age will send you to Hell," Beanie shot back.
The people who had been planning to seriously watch the drama unfold finally couldn’t hold it in anymore. After a couple of deep coughs, they pressed their lips together and snickered on the side.
Just then, a cleaning lady with a mop walked past Beanie and mopped the floor under his feet. Beanie said sweetly, "Thank you, Auntie. You’re working hard."
That cleaning lady was fifty-six years old!
And Summer Jacobs was only in her twenties!
The one-two punch left Summer Jacobs so stunned she couldn’t lift her head. Pale-faced, she pointed at herself and asked Beanie, "I’m an auntie?"
"Aren’t you?" Beanie blinked and stared at Summer Jacobs in confusion for a long moment. After a while, he shook his head. "Sorry, I was wrong. You don’t seem that young. Can I call you Grandma?"
COUGH! COUGH! Summer Jacobs coughed violently, clutching her chest.
Even Vivian Quincy couldn’t help but laugh. Blinking her pretty eyes, she said, "Alright, don’t talk nonsense. She’s quite young, the same age as many others." Vivian was probably afraid Beanie’s words would upset the other young women in the office, so she gave him a deliberate reminder.
Beanie said, "Really? But I think everyone else looks like a little fairy. She’s the only one who looks like an auntie."
Summer Jacobs took a third critical hit!
At that moment, she wanted to spit blood!
