A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 93: I Can Marry 8 or 10
"Oh, you’re talking about Beanie, President Ford? The poor little guy. What about him?" Zachary Thornton’s curiosity was piqued. He chuckled. "Don’t tell me you think he looks like you, too?"
"Really? I don’t see it." Jasper Ford nonchalantly took a sip of his coffee.
Zachary Thornton took a large gulp as well. When it came to Beanie, he had a lot to say. "But I really think his features resemble yours. It’s a shame he’s not your kid. He’s had a pretty tragic life."p>
The word "tragic" sent a jolt through Jasper Ford’s heart, a faint ache spreading within him. Yet, his expression remained impassive as he asked coolly, "Such as?"
"The kid’s father died while he was still in his mother’s womb. I heard it was a car accident, a really bad one. A big truck flattened him. His mother was severely traumatized, and he never had a father’s love growing up. He was always being bullied," Zachary Thornton said.
Jasper Ford frowned deeply.
Zachary Thornton continued, "When the kid was in preschool, the other children found out his father died young. A dozen or so of them would corner him and bully him."
"That’s enough," Jasper Ford cut him off, not wanting to hear any more.
Zachary Thornton smiled. "Not asking about the kid anymore, President Ford?"
"I was not," Jasper Ford replied with three nonchalant words, then got up and left.
"Wow, he’s so handsome! Isn’t that President Ford from Imperium Group?"p>
"What’s he doing at our company? Oh my god, he has to be over six-foot-two, right? And so stylish."
"He has such a great presence. How can anyone be that handsome?"
In the department nearest to Zachary Thornton’s office, the crowd of people milling about were all captivated by the dashing, elegant man!
Jasper Ford’s presence was truly incredible, the kind that naturally came with its own aura!
Anna, who hadn’t noticed Jasper Ford at first, heard a group of young women squealing in infatuation and couldn’t help but look toward the man. The corner of her mouth twitched fiercely, and she was suddenly seized by the urge to shove Beanie, who was right beside her, under the table...
Before Beanie could react, Anna gave him a yank, and the little guy hit the floor with a THUD.
"Oh my goodness, you poor cutie, how did you fall?" A nearby assistant rushed to help Beanie up.
Jasper Ford, who had already reached the doorway, stopped. He turned to see Beanie sprawled on the floor. In a few long strides, he dashed over, forcefully shoving his way through the crowd.
"Beanie..." Anna, who had pulled Beanie up, saw a large bump forming on his forehead and was on the verge of tears from shock. She turned to take Beanie to find Vivian Quincy, but Jasper Ford was already in front of her. He snatched Beanie from her arms.
"What are you doing?" Anna asked in a panic.
Jasper Ford looked down and saw Beanie’s forehead was already swelling up. "I’m taking him to the hospital," he said.
"I’ll take him! I don’t need you to!" Anna said fearfully.
Jasper Ford shot her an icy glare, so cold it was bone-chilling.
Anna fell silent, watching helplessly as Jasper Ford carried Beanie away. Panicked and unsure of what to do, she finally called Vivian Quincy and apologized, "I’m sorry, Vivian. Something happened."
Vivian Quincy, who was at work, asked in confusion, "What happened?"
"I accidentally pulled Beanie over. His forehead is swollen, and Jasper Ford is rushing him to the hospital." Anna quickly recounted what had just happened to Vivian Quincy.
The moment Vivian Quincy heard they were taking Beanie to the hospital, she grew anxious. "Is it serious? Which hospital? I’m coming over right now..."
"They’re probably heading to the hospital next to your company. It’s the closest one," Anna said.
Vivian Quincy dropped her work and ran to ask Caden Chandler for time off.
Caden Chandler found it strange. "Where are you going during work hours?"
"President Ford is at the hospital. He asked me to go over." Vivian Quincy couldn’t think of a better excuse, so she had to use Jasper Ford.
...
「In the car.」
Jasper Ford’s heart raced with anxiety as he sped toward the nearest hospital.
Beanie, sitting next to him, had a large swelling on his forehead, yet he wasn’t crying or fussing. He just sat quietly in his seat.
Jasper Ford found it strange. ’Why isn’t he crying? He’s just a little kid, and he took such a nasty fall.’
He couldn’t help but ask, "Doesn’t it hurt?" ’Or did he get knocked silly and forget how to cry?’
Beanie looked up dazedly, his big eyes gazing at Jasper Ford. His little mouth opened. "It hurts."
"Then why didn’t you say so?" Jasper Ford asked, confused.
Beanie sat in his seat, his small hands clutching the cushion underneath him. He answered in a low voice, "No one cares if I say it hurts, so what’s the point of saying anything?"
The boy’s words lodged in Jasper Ford’s chest, making it ache. ’This isn’t my son, and I wasn’t the one who hurt him...’
It was as if Beanie was already used to it. With a large bump on his head, he watched Jasper Ford drive the entire way. He remained quiet and didn’t fuss even when they arrived at the hospital. Before Jasper Ford had even finished the paperwork, Beanie had already found a seat and was waiting obediently inside the surgical clinic.
’He understood everything.’
There was a familiarity to his behavior that made Jasper Ford’s heart ache.
Jasper Ford could tell this wasn’t Beanie’s first trip to the hospital. ’A boy his age shouldn’t understand any of this, yet he’s unnervingly mature.’
"Have you been to the hospital often?" Jasper Ford couldn’t help but ask.
"Yeah," Beanie said.
"Who brought you?" Jasper Ford asked.
"My teachers from preschool brought me a few times," Beanie said.
Zachary Thornton’s words from earlier that day suddenly surfaced in Jasper Ford’s mind. ’Beanie was bullied in preschool...’
’He must be talking about those times.’
The man lowered his gaze and asked seriously, "And your mommy?"
"Oh, right, Ford, can I stay at your place tonight? Mommy will definitely cry if she sees I’m hurt." Beanie suddenly remembered something and tugged on Jasper Ford’s hand, pleading nervously.
Jasper Ford’s gaze locked onto the small hand clutching his. It was tiny and chubby, yet surprisingly strong.
He enveloped Beanie’s small hand with his own large palm and replied in a firm, resolute voice, "Alright."
"Thank you, Ford!" Beanie laughed happily. His joy was short-lived, however, as he started howling in pain the moment the doctor began applying the ointment.
After leaving the hospital, his little face was all crumpled, tears still glistening on his cheeks. He snuggled pitifully in Jasper Ford’s arms and whined, "Ford, why’d you have to bring me to the hospital? I would have been fine if I just toughed it out. Look at how he wrapped my head. I look like a mummy! The other kids will definitely laugh at me if they see this."
Jasper Ford said gently, "They won’t. I’ll have your back. If anyone dares to laugh at you, I’ll take care of them for you."
Beanie tilted his little face up and retorted, "You’re not my daddy, Ford. Why are you helping me?"
Jasper Ford replied, "Do I have to be your daddy to help you?"
"What do you want from me, Ford?" Beanie blinked his big, beautiful eyes.
Jasper Ford chuckled, lightly tapping the little guy on the nose. "What could you possibly have that I would want?"
"My mommy is very valuable!" Beanie’s expression, despite his injury, turned very serious. "Ford, can you try not to be so mean to girls in the future? Girls are meant to be cherished and doted on. How can a grown man like you pick on them? My mommy says guys like you have a really hard time finding a wife."
Jasper Ford said, "If I wanted to, I could marry eight or ten of them without a problem."
