A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 82: Looks a Lot Like Jasper Ford
At his core, Jasper Ford didn’t like women. You could even say he loathed them.
Vivian Quincy had worked by his side for so long, and Jasper Ford gave her the impression that he was someone who discriminated against women. He never looked at her with any seriousness. Even when he occasionally teased her with his words and actions, his eyes remained lucid. You could clearly see his disdain, see that he was just toying with her.
He disdained sleeping with any woman!
Wanda Quincy had followed Jasper Ford for six years, and every time she so much as touched him, he would get upset. He would even wash his hands with hand sanitizer twenty or thirty times, and that was considered a mild reaction.
"Besides, Beanie and Jasper Ford don’t even look alike. Don’t they say sons take after their fathers?" Vivian Quincy continued.
Anna couldn’t help but glance at Beanie’s face. "But I think they look quite alike."
"How do they look alike?" Vivian Quincy replied, displeased. "How could my adorable little baby possibly look like that bastard? Beanie, Mommy’s right, isn’t she?"
Beanie nodded emphatically. "My daddy is definitely a super handsome man who totally spoils his wife. Ford is a big baddie, worse than an animal. How could he possibly be my daddy?"
"Fine, fine. I can’t win an argument with you two." Anna spread her hands in resignation. On second thought, it made sense. A man like Jasper Ford could have any woman he wanted, so why would he need to force a stranger? ’That’s definitely something only an animal would do...’
Having searched for so long with no leads, Anna was getting tired. "Why don’t we put up a banner outside, a public notice to find him?"
"Isn’t that a bit over the top?" Vivian Quincy thought her friend’s idea was too bold. ’Can we even put something like that up just anywhere? And even if we could, what would we write on it?’
Anna thought about it and agreed it wasn’t a great idea. "Then what do we do? Beanie can register for school under my household, but I can’t be his daddy. We still have to find the real one eventually."
"What if I go ask Ford?" Beanie suggested after a long pause. "Since it’s Ford’s hotel, he must know it pretty well, right? Maybe he knows something! And even if he doesn’t, he could help investigate."
"Would he even help?" Vivian Quincy frowned. She didn’t think Jasper Ford was the type to meddle in other people’s affairs.
Beanie hesitated too. ’I just tattled on Ford to Miss Ford today,’ he thought. ’Someone as petty as him must be mad at me now.’
The three of them sat on the sofa, all sighing in unison.
Later, Zachary Thornton returned from his meeting, smiling as he said, "What’s everyone doing here?"
Anna pouted. "And whose fault do you think that is?"
"You look so aggrieved. Come on, I’ll treat you all to dinner." Zachary Thornton chuckled and gently tapped Anna on the head before heading into his office to grab his coat.
The group filed into a restaurant and found a table by the window. To Vivian Quincy’s shock, Jasper Ford suddenly called Beanie’s phone.
Anna said, "Give me the phone. I’ll answer it."
"Okay." Vivian Quincy quickly handed her the phone.
Anna cleared her throat and answered the call. "Hello, who is this?"
"Is this Beanie’s mother?" A man’s smooth voice came from the other end of the line.
A distinct sparkle flashed in Anna’s eyes. Feigning composure, she said, "Speaking. Who is this?"
"My name is Jasper Ford. Since Beanie was injured while staying at my home, I’d like to invite you and your son to dinner tonight to express my apologies," the man said in a deep voice.
Anna suddenly went quiet. After making a few gestures toward Vivian Quincy, she said, "That won’t be necessary, but thank you. I’m in the middle of dinner right now, so I won’t trouble you. If there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up."
Without giving Jasper Ford a chance to say another word, Anna abruptly ended the call. CLICK. She turned excitedly to Vivian Quincy. "His voice is to die for! So smooth, so alluring!"
"Really?" Vivian Quincy looked completely baffled.
Anna’s eyes were practically sparkling. "Yes! It’s absolutely divine, and he’s so handsome... Ah!"
Anna let out a shriek mid-sentence, turning to glare angrily at Zachary Thornton. "What did you hit me for?"
"Who’s handsome? Say that again," Zachary Thornton said, his face stern.
Anna retorted, "Jasper Ford, obviously! He’s the CEO of Imperium Group, handsome, and incredibly capable. He’s practically perfect!"
"Do you want me to shut you up with this bowl?" Zachary Thornton’s expression darkened.
Anna couldn’t be bothered to argue with him, instead handing the menu to Vivian Quincy. "Hurry and order. Let’s bankrupt him."
Vivian Quincy smiled and nodded, pulling Beanie in for a gentle hug. "See anything you’d like to eat?"
"Mommy, I want this," Beanie said sweetly, pointing to the desserts on the menu. Vivian Quincy took note of each one.
After ordering, the group sipped their drinks and waited. Beanie was restless, his gaze fixed on the world outside the window. He spotted a black car that looked familiar. He rubbed his eyes, and then he saw Caden Chandler get out and open the rear door. Jasper Ford and Madam Ford were both inside.
’What are they doing here?’
Beanie found it odd. He assumed they were just in the neighborhood on business, but then the trio came upstairs and entered the very same restaurant...
The color drained from Vivian Quincy’s and Anna’s faces. Vivian, in particular, had the immediate, subconscious urge to hide Beanie!
"Why is he here?!" Anna asked nervously.
Vivian Quincy: "I don’t know! What do we do? Beanie, quick, hide!"
Beanie blinked his big eyes. "Mommy, what are you guys scared of?"
"We’re afraid you’ll be recognized!" Vivian Quincy’s voice trembled slightly.
Beanie said, "I already told Miss Ford that Anna is my mommy. Besides, I’m not living with the Ford Family anymore. They won’t do anything to me, so there’s no reason to hide."
"Beanie’s right. Women love to make a big fuss over nothing." Zachary Thornton nodded in agreement. ’Even though I don’t really like this little kid,’ he thought, ’since he’s someone Anna wants to protect, I don’t mind looking out for the little guy. He is a bit annoying to look at, though.’
He watched as Jasper Ford’s party came in and headed straight for the private room to their left. Zachary Thornton considered greeting Jasper, but the words died in his throat. He stared intently at Jasper Ford’s profile, then looked at Beanie. His gaze flickered back and forth between the two of them three or four times.
Zachary Thornton suddenly understood why he found Beanie a little irritating. It was because the boy’s eyes and brows bore a slight resemblance to Jasper Ford’s!
He chuckled softly and asked, "Miss Quincy, who is Beanie’s father?"
His question stunned the other three at the table.
Anna surreptitiously pinched Zachary Thornton’s thigh and whispered, "Don’t ask questions you’re not supposed to."
Zachary Thornton smiled. "I’m just curious. Is it a secret?"
"Can’t say," Anna replied curtly, clearly displeased. She then smiled at Vivian Quincy and said, "Don’t mind him. Here, try this. It’s really good."
Anna, worried that Beanie would be upset by the topic, deliberately tried to change the subject. Vivian Quincy also fell silent, her head lowered.
The astute Zachary Thornton could tell there was more to the story. A faint, knowing smile played on his lips. ’If this little guy really is *his* son,’ he thought, ’heh...’
