Chapter 72: Chapter 72: I Might as Well Be Despicable

The fall left Vivian Quincy dazed. Before she could react, the car started. Her face went pale with fright as she scrambled up to open the door.

"Quincy, long time no see." A sleazy voice suddenly came from above her.

The voice sounded familiar to Vivian Quincy. She turned to see Jeremy King’s broad, oily face, and her brow furrowed in disgust.

"President King, what is the meaning of this?" she asked, her voice suddenly calm.

Jeremy King gave a sinister smile. "Have you given any thought to the matter I brought up last time?"

"What matter?" Vivian Quincy feigned ignorance.

Jeremy King’s smile was radiant as he silently pulled out a dagger and set it on the table. "I heard Quincy was demoted to a manual laborer. How can a girl as beautiful as you do that kind of work? Come to my company. I’ll make you the vice president of the planning department, and I’ll pay you double what Jasper Ford offers."

Vivian Quincy was being threatened.

’If I refuse him outright right now,’ she thought, ’there’s no guarantee he won’t hurt me.’

After a moment of thought, Vivian Quincy said, "It’s true that I don’t want to work at Imperium Group anymore, but if I quit, I’ll have to pay a five-million-dollar penalty for breaking my contract. I can’t afford that."

"Five million? That is a lot for you. That Jasper Ford is no man at all. How could he use a contract to bully a young woman?" At this, Jeremy King continued, "I’m different. I have a soft spot for women, especially a little beauty like you. I’d want to cherish you, so how could I bear to let you work in some filthy, exhausting warehouse?"

A chill ran down Vivian Quincy’s spine. She fought back her revulsion, forced a strained smile, and pushed away Jeremy King’s hand as it caressed her cheek. "Since President King knows I’m worried about the contract penalty, you must have already thought of a solution."

"I have. I’ll give you the money to leave Imperium Group, but you have to do one thing for me." Jeremy King suddenly lowered his voice, leaning in to whisper in Vivian Quincy’s ear...

After a while, the car stopped in front of Vivian Quincy’s apartment building. She got out, her face pale.

Jeremy King rolled down the window. "Think it over," he reminded her. "I’ll be back for you in a few days."

Vivian Quincy smiled and nodded. "I will."

She waved goodbye.

Only after she watched Jeremy King’s car drive out of the community gates did Vivian Quincy finally let out a sigh of relief. She patted her chest and turned to go upstairs, but when she saw the person standing on the steps by the entrance, she froze.

Hayden Kaye had been waiting downstairs all evening. In his hands was a box of osmanthus cakes—her old favorite flavor—that he had gone out of his way to buy from a shop near the university. He wanted to surprise her, so he hadn’t told her he was coming. Instead, he just stood there quietly with the bag, waiting for her to come home so he could surprise her.

After waiting for three hours, Hayden Kaye had grown restless and decided to come downstairs. He never expected to see such a scene the moment he stepped outside the building.

’His Vivian... getting out of that bastard Jeremy King’s car!’

Hayden Kaye went mad with jealousy. He stared coldly at Vivian Quincy and demanded, "Why?"

Vivian Quincy knew he must have seen everything. Her gaze drifted to the bag in Hayden Kaye’s hands. She knew what was inside but deliberately ignored it. "Since you saw," she said, "I won’t hide it from you anymore. We’re not right for each other. Don’t come looking for me again."

Her voice was clipped, cold, and heartless.

Furious, Hayden Kaye smashed the osmanthus cakes on the ground at her feet, his eyes bloodshot. "Vivian Quincy, are you that shameless? What’s so wrong with me that you’d rather be his mistress!"

Vivian Quincy’s face went deathly pale, though it was hard to see clearly in the dark.

All Hayden Kaye could see were her clear eyes, which held not a trace of guilt, not an ounce of shame.

He seethed, grabbing Vivian Quincy’s arms and demanding viciously, "How much money do you want? I’ll give it to you! I can afford it! I already promised I wouldn’t hold the past against you, so why are you still doing this to me? Are you even human?!"

His voice was hysterical.

He had spent all these years searching for Vivian Quincy, day and night. He had finally found her, only to be faced with this.

He wanted to laugh but couldn’t. All his rage funneled into his hands as they gripped Vivian Quincy’s arms.

"That hurts," Vivian Quincy cried out. Her shoulders felt like they were about to be snapped in two; the pain was excruciating.

But Hayden Kaye didn’t loosen his grip in the slightest. He sneered, "So you can feel pain? This isn’t even a fraction of what I’ve felt for years. You have the audacity to say it hurts?"

"Hayden Kaye, I’m begging you, get a grip! We broke up! Can you please stop acting crazy?" The pain was becoming unbearable, and Vivian Quincy couldn’t stop herself from shouting.

But Hayden Kaye’s voice was even louder, more hysterical than hers. "Who said I agreed to break up? I never agreed!"

"I have a child! We can’t be together, don’t you get it?" Vivian Quincy shot back.

The word "child" made Hayden Kaye’s eyes go red. A firestorm of rage erupted, consuming him. He was like a crazed beast, roaring, "So that’s why you’re so depraved? Selling your body for money? If you needed money, why didn’t you come to me? Did you think I wouldn’t give it to you? Do you just love degrading yourself that much? You have no shame!"

Those last four words struck Vivian Quincy like four hard slaps to the face.

She laughed. It was a mocking, miserable laugh.

’So, in Hayden Kaye’s eyes, I’m just someone who would sell her body for money, is that it?’

’But does he even know what I went through all those years ago?’

’When I needed him most, he wasn’t there!’

’That night has been my nightmare for the last six years. I was innocent, yet a stranger stole my most precious night from me. Was I happy about it? I wasn’t happy at all!’

’I haven’t been happy for a single moment these past six years!’

’I got pregnant before I was married. Everyone cursed me and pointed fingers at me. Where was Hayden Kaye then?’

"Fine, let’s just say I’m depraved. I’m not good enough for you. I just love being a mistress. Are you satisfied now?" Vivian Quincy said, her face expressionless. The light had completely vanished from her once-crystal-clear eyes.

Seeing her like this, Hayden Kaye became even more furious. "What’s with that tone? You’re the one who wronged me, and you can’t even offer a single word of apology?"

"Whether you admit it or not, we broke up six years ago. What I do now has nothing to do with you. Please leave." She forcefully pried Hayden Kaye’s hands off her.

But Hayden Kaye erupted. "Vivian Quincy, since you were the one who started things with me, you’d better be prepared for me to bother you for the rest of your life. You want to break up with me? I don’t think so!"

"Whatever you say." Vivian Quincy didn’t want to argue anymore.

Hayden Kaye’s eyes were bloodshot. Anger and jealousy warred in his heart. In a frenzy, he yanked Vivian Quincy into his arms, grabbed her face, and brutally kissed her.

Vivian Quincy was terrified and frantically pushed him away. "Don’t touch me!"

"Don’t touch you? Hah!" Hayden Kaye laughed maliciously. "Vivian Quincy, don’t you just love men? Then today, I’ll make you my woman!"
