A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 7: Give Up on a Woman Like That
Vivian Quincy didn’t know what possessed her to agree. She completed the onboarding process that same day and worked for an afternoon. Finding the job surprisingly easy and not as grueling as she’d imagined, she decided to stay.
On her way home, she kept feeling like someone was watching her. Vivian Quincy turned around and saw a black Bentley parked not far away. The window was slightly rolled down, and she could only vaguely make out the side of a face.
’Is that Hayden Kaye?’ 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
’Whatever. I’ll ignore him.’
When she got home, Vivian Quincy video-called Beanie Quincy. She was surprised to see the opulent and magnificent background behind him. Vivian Quincy frowned. "Whose house are you at?"
"Miss Ford’s house! She really likes me. She even made me lots of snacks today. Beanie loves them!" the little boy chirped, rolling around happily on the bed while holding the phone.
Vivian Quincy felt it was unsafe to leave him at a stranger’s house and wanted to bring him home. But Beanie Quincy said, "I promised Miss Ford I’d stay for a whole week. She’ll be sad if I leave now. Miss Ford is all alone at home, it’s so pitiful. Mommy, can I come back in a few days?"
"What about her family?" Vivian Quincy asked.
Beanie Quincy said, "Miss Ford has a son, but he was kicked out because he can’t have children. She’s all alone, and her son is sick. It’s so sad. Can Beanie stay and keep her company for a few more days?"
"Alright." Vivian Quincy didn’t insist. They talked for half an hour before she went to bed.
The next morning, Vivian Quincy took a car to the warehouse. She had barely done any work before she got a promotion!
Now the newly promoted warehouse manager, she asked the supervisor in a daze, "Are promotions always this fast at your company?"
"It’s what you deserve. The higher-ups want you to work hard." The supervisor left with a smile. After exiting the warehouse, he whispered to a few warehouse employees, "The manager said we need to ’toughen up’ the newbie. Starting today, she does all of your work by herself. Got it?"
The men exchanged a look, hesitating. "Can Vivian Quincy do it all by herself?"
"That’s her problem. You few, come with me and report to another department." The supervisor led the junior staff away.
The entire warehouse was left with only Vivian Quincy. As goods started arriving one after another, needing to be registered and processed, Vivian Quincy realized that the people who were supposed to be responsible for this were all gone. She could only grit her teeth and do it all herself!
...
It was already two in the morning by the time Jasper Ford finished with the last email in his inbox. He wearily rubbed his temples, but after just a couple of rubs, a buzzing pain started in the back of his head. Jasper Ford opened his eyes. "Where is that woman?"
"Sir, she’s still moving goods in the warehouse," Caden Chandler reported with his head lowered.
Jasper Ford casually flipped open a file and asked lazily, "Has Jeremy King contacted her?"
"No, sir." Caden Chandler shook his head.
A sharp curve formed on Jasper Ford’s crimson lips as he commented disdainfully with four words: "Putting on an act."
Caden Chandler nodded, also looking down on her. "I don’t know where Jeremy King found this woman. She’s really brazen, willing to do anything to achieve her goals!"
Suddenly, the sound of Vivian Quincy’s sharp retort surfaced in Jasper Ford’s mind, and he felt a little dazed.
"Sir, did I say something wrong?" Caden Chandler asked hastily when he noticed Jasper Ford’s expression darken.
Jasper Ford had no heart for work. Closing the file, he asked, "Deal with Jeremy King. I don’t want to see him for a while."
"Hasn’t he already been dealt with?" Caden Chandler met Jasper Ford’s cold eyes, confused. He explained, "Yesterday evening, Master Kaye went to Jeremy King’s company, dragged him out... uh... and got into a fight. Did you not know, sir?"
"Hayden?" Jasper Ford’s brows furrowed. He hadn’t told Hayden Kaye about this matter.
Caden Chandler hadn’t expected Jasper Ford to be truly unaware. He said, "Master Kaye originally said he was going to let off some steam, but he ended up getting beaten up by Jeremy King’s bodyguards. When you go to the hospital to get your dressing changed, sir, maybe you could visit him? It might help ease the tension between you two."
"We’ll see." Jasper Ford was a bit tired. He told Caden Chandler to leave first while he rested in the office.
When he woke up, it was already morning. Jasper Ford turned on his computer, glanced at the warehouse surveillance feed, and saw Vivian Quincy slumped over a chair in exhaustion. He sneered, grabbed his car keys, and headed to the hospital.
Hayden Kaye was in a VIP room on the 7th floor, and his injuries were quite severe.
"What are you laughing at? Who let you in!" Hayden Kaye cursed angrily upon seeing Jasper Ford walk in.
Ever since he found out Wanda Quincy had a thing with Jasper Ford, Hayden Kaye had started to despise him, never giving him a pleasant look whenever they met.
Jasper Ford coldly tossed the breakfast onto the table, his aloof and imposing aura sharp. "Getting yourself sent to the hospital for starting a fight. Is this the extent of your abilities?"
Hayden Kaye’s face stiffened, and he looked rather embarrassed. "My business is none of your concern!"
Jasper Ford lazily pulled out a chair and leaned back. "Jeremy King got a lawyer today. He’s going to sue you. Is that also none of my concern?"
"He did something so disgusting, and he still has the nerve to sue me!" Hayden Kaye was so furious he felt like his lungs would explode. He shot up, but the movement pulled at the wound on his shoulder, making him groan in pain.
Hayden Kaye’s eyes reddened. He gritted his teeth and endured the pain for a moment before looking at Jasper Ford. "You have to help me."
"And why should I?" Jasper Ford’s long fingers tapped unhurriedly on the tabletop, his cool lips curling into a smirk, looking as if it had nothing to do with him.
Hayden Kaye lowered his head and said guiltily, "Ninth Uncle, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have treated you with that attitude before. I know I was wrong. You have to help me this time. My entire life’s happiness depends on it!"
Jasper Ford raised an eyebrow. "For instance?"
"She’s back. It was Jeremy King who stole her from me. This time, I will never let her leave me again. So, Ninth Uncle, you have to help me. As long as you can help me keep her, I’ll listen to whatever you say from now on!" Hayden Kaye swore, holding up three fingers.
Jasper Ford was a bit confused. "Jeremy King is fighting you over a woman?"
"Yes. It’s all my fault for hiding my identity back then. It’s all my fault. Ninth Uncle, I already missed my chance once. I don’t want to lose her again. Please help me, okay?" In all these years, this was the first time Hayden Kaye had ever begged Jasper Ford for anything.
Normally, if Hayden Kaye had been this humble, Jasper Ford would have certainly agreed. However...
"A woman like that is out of the question. Crestfall is full of socialites and debutantes. There’s no need to hang all your hopes on one tree."
Although Jasper Ford and Hayden Kaye’s relationship wasn’t great, since Hayden called him "Ninth Uncle," he felt it was his duty to teach him a lesson. ’What kind of man throws his life away for one woman? Especially one who had been with Jeremy King. Just from that, you could tell she wasn’t a respectable person.’
The Kaye Family held considerable prestige in Crestfall, and Hayden Kaye was the only son. Even if they didn’t require a marriage between social equals, the woman should at least have a clean background.
Jeremy King was notoriously sleazy in their circle. He had a family but still fooled around on the side; keeping multiple mistresses was a common occurrence for him. Any girl who got entangled with him was likely not innocent.
