A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 62: It’s Either Her or Me
Beanie, nestled in Jasper Ford’s arms, gave a nearly imperceptible shudder. A hint of panic flashed in his big, round eyes as he tilted his head up, clearly angry. "Let me down."
"Your mommy’s here. We can’t just let her wait outside, can we?" Jasper Ford asked with a smile.
Beanie was so mad his little face practically turned green. He puffed out his cheeks, jutted out his chin, and said unhappily, "I don’t want to see her. I’m leaving right now."
Seeing the guard walking away in the distance, Beanie struggled even harder, looking like he was about to bite someone to escape. Helpless against the little guy, Jasper Ford had no choice but to loosen his grip. "I’ll go out and see her. You stay here quietly."
"How do I know you won’t let her in? I’m going upstairs," Beanie muttered under his breath. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Jasper Ford gently nuzzled the little one’s cheek and said in a low voice, "This is my house. I’ll let in whoever I please. Talk back to me again, and believe it or not, I’ll make you sleep with Wanda Quincy tonight."
A shiver shot down the little one’s spine, and he instantly froze. ’Sleep with that bad woman, Wanda Quincy? I’d be dead before I even knew what happened.’
Beanie snapped his head up, his beautiful, big eyes filled with terror. He was completely spooked.
The corners of Jasper Ford’s lips curved into a charming smile. "Wait here. The food’s almost ready, but you can only eat after I get back. Don’t you dare sneak upstairs, or I’ll tie the two of you together tonight."
Beanie immediately stopped squirming. ’Jasper Ford is terrifying,’ he thought.
But he couldn’t just wait around. ’What if Wanda Quincy comes in and sees me?’ Beanie grew anxious and couldn’t sit still. He ended up running to the kitchen to watch the chef cook.
The chef chuckled. "Getting hungry?"
"Mhm," Beanie nodded, hiding in the kitchen and refusing to come out.
The butler, worried Beanie might get his clothes dirty, said, "Be a good boy, Beanie. It’s better to wait outside. Since the Young Master promised he wouldn’t let Wanda Quincy in, he’ll keep his word."
"How would I know that?" Beanie grumbled, pouting.
The butler said with a smile, "Why do you dislike her so much?"
Beanie stammered, unable to answer. He couldn’t stand being in the kitchen any longer, so he obediently returned to the living room.
Beanie had no idea what Jasper Ford was saying to Wanda Quincy outside, but even from a distance, he could hear the sound of crying. He couldn’t resist tiptoeing to the window and peeking his head out. Wanda Quincy was already turning to get into her car, and a moment later, she drove off.
Jasper Ford said nothing, simply turning and walking back into the house.
"Seen enough?" he asked Beanie.
Caught in the act, Beanie looked a little sheepish. He gave Jasper Ford a sweet smile and walked back over. "How did Ford send her away?"
"I thought you didn’t want to see her," Jasper Ford countered.
Beanie didn’t say anything, but a triumphant little smile played on his small, chubby face.
Even though he knew the little guy was full of mischief, for some reason, Jasper Ford loved to see him smile. It warmed his heart. He couldn’t resist scooping the boy up off the floor. In a mock-serious tone, Jasper Ford said, "Alright, I sent her away just like you wanted. So, are you going to tell me why you hate her so much now?"
"Because she abandoned me," Beanie said with a straight face, lying without so much as a blink.
"What about your father, then?" Jasper Ford asked.
’What kind of person could have produced such a little rascal?’ He was getting more and more curious. ’Beanie has been here for several days now. The mother is a mystery, and there’s no trace of a father. Was the kid actually abandoned?’
Jasper Ford studied the boy’s dazed expression and noticed that Beanie’s face had visibly frozen at the mention of his father. The little guy suddenly looked quite pitiful.
"What’s wrong? Did your father abandon you too?" Jasper Ford asked.
It was meant as a casual question, but it struck a chord in Beanie’s tender heart. For as long as he could remember, his father had been a figure who existed only in dreams. He had never met his father, and whenever he saw other kids with their dads, Beanie couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.
But he knew his mommy didn’t seem to like his dad very much, so even though he desperately wanted a father, he never dared to bring it up with her, for fear of making her sad.
If it weren’t for that time at kindergarten, when a group of kids pushed him into a corner and called him a bastard, his mommy would never have brought him to Crestfall.
Beanie lowered his head, his big, round eyes shimmering with unshed tears. He was trying to be strong, holding back his sobs and refusing to let the tears fall. "I don’t have a father," he said, his voice firm.
"Hm?" The man’s brows furrowed in confusion.
"I’m going upstairs to sleep." Beanie didn’t want to stay a moment longer. ’I can’t let anyone see me cry, it’s too embarrassing.’ He wiped the corners of his eyes and turned to leave.
His tiny figure, with his lonely and hurt-looking back, was a pitiful sight.
The sight made Jasper Ford’s heart clench painfully. Seeing Beanie so upset created a suffocating tightness in his own chest. He didn’t know what was wrong with him. All he wanted at that moment was to comfort the wounded little boy. And so, Jasper Ford decisively pulled Beanie into a gentle hug.
"If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to. What are you crying for? You’re a big boy," Jasper Ford said, gently wiping away Beanie’s tears.
’The man’s hands were so big. His embrace was so warm, so gentle...’
This just made Beanie cry even harder. ’If only it were my daddy holding me... Hmph! All men are bad! Scumbags!’
Dinner was ready in the kitchen. Seeing that the little guy had nearly cried himself to exhaustion, Jasper Ford took him to have a late supper. The moment food was in front of him, the tears stopped instantly. He was grinning from ear to ear, his smile utterly adorable. ’What kind of heartless bastard could bear to abandon such a cute kid?’ Jasper thought. ’If only he were my son.’
Seeing him eat so happily put Jasper Ford in a great mood.
It was ten o’clock, and Madam Ford still hadn’t returned. She did, however, call Jasper Ford and tell him to take good care of Beanie. Jasper agreed. Once Beanie had eaten his fill, Jasper took him upstairs for a bath.
Every time Jasper Ford saw the birthmark on Beanie’s chest, he felt a strange, indescribable sensation. But he didn’t press the issue. After he finished bathing Beanie, he asked if the boy wanted to sleep by himself.
Of course Beanie didn’t want to! He refused immediately!
Jasper Ford was a little displeased. "Why don’t you want to sleep with me?" he asked seriously.
"You met with that bad woman. I hate you now," Beanie said with great seriousness.
Jasper Ford paused for a second, then remembered that Beanie was angry about Wanda Quincy. He chuckled. "It’s the middle of the night, and your Miss Ford isn’t home. If a wild beast breaks in and carries you off, it’s not my problem."
A chill ran down Beanie’s back. He shook his head firmly. "No way. How could there be wild beasts here?"
"Oh, there are. They’re my pets," Jasper Ford said with a perfectly straight face.
Beanie couldn’t help but frown, his big eyes blinking rapidly.
"So? You’ll sleep with me?" Jasper Ford continued to coax him.
Beanie was on the verge of giving in. Just as he was about to agree, the phone on the bed rang. It was a video call from Vivian Quincy.
Jasper Ford’s gaze immediately locked onto the phone...
