A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 28: I’m at the Bad Uncle’s House
Beanie Quincy practically ran upstairs. He was terrified Jasper Ford would chase after him, his little short legs scurrying up the stairs even faster than Madam Ford.
Madam Ford was afraid he would fall and couldn’t help but remind him, "Slow down, don’t fall."
"I’m okay, Miss Ford. You be careful." Beanie stopped and obediently waited for her for a moment. Suddenly, he felt a sharp gaze land on him and he quickly scrambled up another two steps.
Madam Ford could see that Beanie was very scared of Jasper Ford. After they got to the room, she locked the door and comforted him in a soft voice, "Beanie, don’t be afraid. Ford isn’t a bad person; he won’t hurt you."
"Beanie knows. Ford’s personality is a bit cold, no wonder girls don’t like him." Thinking of Jasper Ford’s icy aura, Beanie figured that probably only a bad woman like Wanda Quincy could stand Jasper Ford.
After Madam Ford left, Beanie tossed and turned in bed for a long time, unable to sleep. He stealthily pulled out his phone and saw several missed calls from Vivian Quincy. He sent her a video call request.
"Mommy, something terrible has happened!"
Vivian Quincy thought something had happened to him and asked anxiously, "What happened? Are you hurt? Mommy’s phone died just now so I couldn’t reach you. Where are you now? Mommy will come pick you up."
"I’m at the bad uncle’s house!" Beanie whispered from under the covers, his small body trembling.
Vivian was very confused. "What bad uncle?"
"The bad uncle who’s engaged to Wanda Quincy! His mom picked Beanie up and brought me home. I’m living at his house now!" His small, milky voice was on the verge of tears.
Vivian felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. Her whole body went stiff, and her trembling, pink lips parted. "Jasper Ford?"
"His last name is Ford, yes! Miss Ford calls him Jasper!" Beanie nodded.
Vivian suddenly felt like she couldn’t breathe. ’How could it be such a coincidence? How could my Beanie end up living in that demon’s house!’
Thinking about what Jasper had done to her, Vivian’s skin crawled. She bit her lip and asked, "Did he recognize you? Did he bully you?"
"He recognized me!" Beanie’s voice was filled with agitation.
Vivian’s heart leaped into her throat. "You’re at the Ford Family’s house, right? Don’t move, stay right there. Mommy is coming to save you right now!"
Even though they had only known each other for a few short days, Vivian knew exactly what kind of person Jasper was. People who offended him never ended well, just like her own experience over the past few days. Beanie was still so young. If Jasper really decided to harm a child, Beanie wouldn’t even have the strength to struggle!
She panicked!
She absolutely could not lose Beanie!
When Beanie heard Vivian was coming, he quickly said, "Mommy, don’t be scared! Even though the bad uncle recognized me, he didn’t bully me. And Miss Ford has been protecting me the whole time. Today, the bad uncle gave me a mean look and Miss Ford almost hit him for it!" His trembling little voice was mixed with a hint of excitement, even a little bit of glee.
Vivian, who had been ready to charge into the Ford Family home and snatch her son back, paused. "For real?"
"Of course it’s real! Miss Ford really likes me! She cooked delicious food and only gave it to me, not the bad uncle. A little while ago, she was afraid I’d be scared to sleep alone and even wanted to sleep with me, but I said no." Beanie counted on his little fingers all the nice things Madam Ford had done for him. He realized that as long as Madam Ford was around, Jasper wouldn’t dare bully him. So, Beanie felt that the Ford Family home was quite safe—at least safer than that bad woman Wanda’s house.
’Those two old hags didn’t give him food and even locked him in a smelly little storage room. They were so awful!’
Vivian found it hard to believe that Jasper Ford—the all-powerful man at the company who held Crestfall in the palm of his hand—would be in such a situation at home. "Are you lying to me? He’s the high-and-mighty President of Imperium Group!"
Beanie said, "Mommy, wait a second."
He tiptoed out of the bedroom, crept to the top of the stairs, and peeked downstairs. Jasper Ford was in the kitchen washing dishes. Beanie secretly snapped a photo before racing back to his room.
"See, Mommy? The bad uncle is washing the bowl I used. Miss Ford made him do it. The bad uncle doesn’t dare bully me." Beanie’s sweet little face was wreathed in smiles.
Vivian zoomed in on the photo and looked at it a few times. It really did seem like he was washing dishes, but she still wasn’t reassured. "I know you’re just trying to keep me from worrying, but Jasper Ford is not a good person. I’m coming to get you now."
"No," Beanie refused at once.
Vivian was confused. "Why?"
Beanie said, "The bad uncle already knows I’m the one who caused trouble. He’s digging into your background, Mommy. I’m a kid, and I have Miss Ford looking out for me, so I can protect myself. But if the bad uncle finds out you’re my accomplice, he’ll definitely bully you. How could I save you then?"
Vivian thought about it and realized he was right. Jasper’s attitude toward her had been terrible lately. If he found out Beanie was her son, he would surely treat Beanie even worse, and as his mother, she didn’t have the power to protect him!
She felt terrible for letting Beanie down and said in a low voice, "I’m sorry, Beanie. It’s all my fault for not being able to protect you."
"I’m fine, Mommy, don’t be sad. You’re already trying so hard. I’m a big boy, I’ll protect myself." Beanie’s soft, sweet voice was very pleasant to hear.
Seeing his healing smile, Vivian felt a pang of guilt. Her fair hand gently caressed the little figure on her phone screen. "I will definitely find your daddy for you."
"Okay." Beanie nodded happily. Seeing that Vivian was so tired she could barely keep her eyes open, he said with concern, "Mommy, you should go home, take a shower, and get a good night’s sleep."
"Mm," Vivian said before hanging up.
Beanie hugged his phone, feeling reassured. He slipped out from under the covers and stared blankly at the dark ceiling. ’Poor Mommy. She’s so busy earning money to raise me, and she still has to find time to look for my daddy. I wonder where he is.’
Beanie turned on his side and glanced at the closed door. Suddenly, there was a THUD as his bedroom door was pushed open!
Terrified, Beanie scrambled to hide under the covers. He peeked out with half his little head and saw Jasper Ford turn on the light and walk toward him. Scared stiff, Beanie didn’t dare to even breathe, and with a WHOOSH, he buried his entire head back under the blanket.
’Waaah, the bad uncle is going to silence me! Mommy, save me...’
"Get up."
Beanie was so scared he wanted to cry. He clearly heard the voice but kept his ears covered and didn’t dare move, pretending to be asleep.
Jasper said, "I heard you talking just now. Are you going to wait for me to get you up myself?"
Huddled in a small ball under the covers, Beanie whimpered, "I’m asleep!"
Jasper: "You can talk in your sleep?"
Beanie’s body stiffened, and he quickly shut his mouth. He ignored whatever Jasper said and held onto the blanket for dear life.
Jasper reached out and yanked on his blanket.
Beanie started to cry. ’The big bad guy is going to silence me!’
The little guy desperately held onto the blanket, refusing to let go. But how could someone so small be a match for Jasper? In an instant, the yanked blanket rolled him over twice, and he nearly fell off the bed.
