A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 142: Vivian Quincy, Say Something
The truck was moving incredibly fast, and it had suddenly accelerated!
Vivian Quincy and her group were standing on the crosswalk by the side of the road. Logically, they should have been safe. They never expected the driver to suddenly charge at them. Everyone’s face went pale!
Anna instinctively yanked Vivian Quincy, trying to pull her out of the way. Vivian, in turn, grabbed Beanie. Hayden Kaye reacted the fastest, diving forward and tackling all three of them to the ground.
A deafening CRASH!
The truck, which had been hurtling toward Beanie, mercilessly slammed into Hayden Kaye instead!
The traffic light pole at the side of the road snapped.
Several of the small, round stone bollards on the crosswalk were knocked askew. The front of the truck was smashed to smithereens, letting out a piercing shriek of metal.
"Oh my god, what happened!" Wanda Quincy shrieked.
Jasper Ford, who had just opened his car door, spun around at the sound. He saw that the spot where Vivian Quincy had been standing was now a scene of utter chaos. A truck was strewn across the road, smashed to pieces. The flowerbeds were destroyed, a lamppost was toppled, and shattered vehicle fragments and debris littered the ground.
Jasper Ford slammed the car door shut and bolted toward the scene.
"Vivian Quincy!" Jasper Ford yelled, his voice sharp.
There was no response.
Jasper’s voice grew more frantic. "Vivian Quincy, where are you? Say something!"
He was moving so fast, it was practically a run. Having known Jasper Ford for so long, this was the first time Wanda Quincy had ever seen him lose his composure like this.
A pang of jealousy hit Wanda. She hurried after him and said, "Jasper, don’t worry. I don’t think Vivian is over there."
She tried to grab Jasper to stop him from getting closer, but he violently shook her hand off. He turned his head and snarled, "Get lost."
The two simple words were utterly freezing. His eyes were like ice, terrifying to behold.
Wanda froze, unable to move, her face ghastly white. Her eyes, filled with hatred, were glued to Jasper’s retreating back. ’Good,’ she thought viciously. ’I hope it killed Vivian Quincy and that little bastard. I hope they’re both dead!’
Wanda cursed them viciously in her mind. ’The crash was so bad,’ she thought, ’even if Vivian didn’t die, she’ll be crippled. Then, no matter how beautiful she is, Jasper will never give her a second glance.’
She walked over, a smug feeling rising as she prepared to savor the fate of those two sluts. But when Wanda heard the soft, sweet sound of a child’s voice, she quickened her pace.
Jasper, who had made his way around to the other side of the wreck, was holding Beanie in his arms. Wanda blinked hard, thinking she must be mistaken. Why wasn’t Beanie Quincy dead? And not only that, but he wasn’t even missing any limbs! Aside from some scrapes on his hands, feet, and forehead, he was completely unharmed!
Wanda’s face gradually turned pale. When she saw Vivian Quincy also get to her feet, perfectly fine, all the joy drained out of her.
There was a lot of blood on the ground, but it was mostly from superficial wounds. Even Hayden Kaye, the most seriously injured of the group, only had a scraped leg.
The scene was a complete disaster, yet they had all escaped with nothing more than a few scrapes!
Wanda put on a fake front. "That was so close! Are you guys hurt? What was that driver thinking? I’ll call an ambulance for you."
The sight of Wanda made Anna’s skin crawl. "No need," she said. "We’re fine. We don’t need an ambulance."
"You’re bleeding! How is that ’fine’? These aren’t minor injuries," Wanda said, feigning deep concern.
Anyone who knew about the relationship between Wanda and Vivian found her act utterly disgusting.
When had Wanda ever cared if Vivian lived or died? Wasn’t she always wishing for Vivian to die a quick death?
’She must be putting on this worried act for Jasper to see, right?’
Anna thought Jasper must be blind to fall for a two-faced, pretentious "white lotus" like Wanda. The sight of her was so nauseating, she didn’t even want to speak.
Hayden also thought Wanda was being shameless, but with Jasper right there, he, as the "nephew," felt it wasn’t his place to call her out.
Jasper held Beanie in his arms, his expression complex as he stared at the little boy’s injuries. He said to Hayden, "You stay here and handle things. I’m taking him to the hospital."
With that, he turned and left, still carrying Beanie.
For a moment, Vivian and Anna didn’t know what to do—stay behind with Hayden, who was the most injured, or follow Beanie.
Jasper’s sharp voice cut through the air. "What are you standing there gawking for? Let’s go!"
Without a doubt, that command was meant for Vivian and Anna.
Vivian hurriedly chased after him. Anna also limped along, glancing back at Hayden, who was talking to the police. She couldn’t help but tug on Vivian’s hand. "Is it really okay to leave Hayden there by himself? He seems to be hurt worse than any of us!"
"Then you can stay behind and watch over him," Jasper retorted coldly from up ahead.
Anna was struck speechless, unsure of what to say.
Wanda couldn’t believe Jasper was personally taking Beanie Quincy to the hospital. She was going mad with jealousy, but she couldn’t show a hint of it, terrified that Jasper would grow to detest her. Instead, she put on a magnanimous air and said to Jasper, "Go on and take them to the hospital. I’ll call an ambulance for Hayden. When the police arrive, I’ll handle the accident report for him and make sure he gets to the hospital. I’ll guarantee everything is taken care of."
The man glanced at Wanda, grunted an "Mm," and got straight into the car.
Not long after they left, the traffic police arrived. Seeing that Hayden was bleeding quite a bit, they urged him to go to the hospital.
Wanda chimed in, "You should go with the ambulance to the hospital and get bandaged up. I can handle things here for you."
Hayden asked, "Wanda, were you involved in this?"
"What are you talking about? I don’t understand," Wanda retorted, feigning confusion.
Hayden pressed, "We were just walking down the street, perfectly fine. Why would a truck suddenly hit us? Did you orchestrate this to hurt Vivian?"
Wanda actually laughed at his accusation. She pulled a nearby police officer over. "Officer, did you hear what he just said? He gets hit by a car and now he’s accusing me of arranging it. Hayden, did you get water in your brain, or did the crash just knock you stupid? You’ve been watching too many soap operas!"
"Then why are you here?" Hayden demanded.
Wanda said, "Your Ninth Uncle called me and asked me out to dinner. He was the one who chose this location. So, by your logic, am I to assume you think your Ninth Uncle wants to harm Vivian Quincy?"
The question left Hayden speechless.
He would never believe Jasper would do something like that; Jasper had no motive. But Wanda was different. He was well aware of the hatred Wanda harbored for Vivian. Wanda was more than capable of doing something so depraved!
Just as the two were about to start a real fight, the traffic officer handling the accident reported his findings. The driver was drunk. The preliminary conclusion was that he had too much to drink and accidentally hit them. There was no conspiracy.
After hearing the officer’s preliminary assessment, Wanda said to Hayden, "Did you hear that? If you dare to slander me again, I’ll sue you."
Hayden was still not convinced. He warned through gritted teeth, "I’m going to investigate this thoroughly when I get back. It had better be just a drunk driver. If I find out you did anything to harm Vivian, I won’t let you get away with it!"
Once everything was settled, Hayden got into the ambulance.
Wanda, wanting to score points with Jasper, made sure to get into the ambulance with Hayden.
Still, seeing him covered in blood all for Vivian’s sake, Wanda found it laughable. ’You can protect her once,’ she thought, ’but you won’t be there to protect her the second time.’
