Chapter 137: Chapter 137: She Can Only Leave If She Dies

The person who caused the problem should be the one to fix it.

Since Jeremy King, the one who caused the problem, couldn’t be relied upon, it was naturally up to Mrs. King to take action.

A wife dealing with a mistress—nothing could be more fitting!

Although Vivian Quincy wasn’t the King family’s mistress, Wanda Quincy had plenty of ways to redirect Mrs. King’s fury toward Vivian.

Hayden Kaye didn’t believe for a second that Wanda Quincy would be so kind. He warned her, "You’d better make sure Vivian is unharmed, or I won’t let you off the hook."

Wanda Quincy just smiled, turned, and walked away.

Still feeling uneasy, Hayden Kaye called Vivian Quincy to give her a heads-up.

Vivian Quincy’s expression darkened when she learned Wanda Quincy was behind this.

"You need to be careful for a while," Hayden Kaye said.

"I know. Thank you," Vivian Quincy said, deeply grateful.

Hayden Kaye added, "Are you free for lunch? I’d like to come see you."

"I can’t go out during my lunch break." The last time Hayden Kaye had helped her pay off that huge debt, Vivian Quincy had felt indebted and was too embarrassed to refuse him outright. She could only use her inability to leave the office as an excuse.

But Hayden Kaye said, "You don’t have to come out. I’ll come to you."

"The President doesn’t like people disturbing his employees during their lunch break." Vivian Quincy brought up Jasper Ford’s name again.

"It’s fine," Hayden Kaye said. "The worst that can happen is Ninth Uncle will chew me out a bit. He won’t do anything serious to me."

After getting some takeout from a coffee shop, Hayden Kaye drove to Imperium Group.

During the lunch break, the office was quiet. Most of the employees were napping at their desks, while a few were still working overtime.

Vivian Quincy was one of those working overtime. She had brought her lunch to her desk, and by the time Hayden Kaye arrived, she still hadn’t finished it, only taking a few bites every now and then.

His heart ached seeing the grease congealing in her food container. "It’s not good for you to eat cold food," he said.

Vivian Quincy looked up. "How did you get here so fast?"

"It’s been half an hour." Hayden Kaye opened the pastries he had bought. "Here, try one. They’re still warm. And this is hot coffee."

"Thank you." For once, Vivian Quincy was in a good mood as she thanked him. She added shyly, "You don’t have to buy me things when you visit. The company provides all of this."

"Okay." Hayden Kaye spotted an empty seat beside her and sat down. His eyes fell on the mountain of documents on her desk. "Do you have to do all this?"

"Mhm, I’m about halfway through," Vivian Quincy nodded. She couldn’t help but glance at the pastries Hayden Kaye had bought for her. She wasn’t actually hungry, but seeing the eager and cautious hope in his eyes made her feel terribly guilty. Feeling bad, she opened one of the boxes and took a bite right in front of him.

"It’s delicious," she praised.

A huge smile instantly spread across Hayden Kaye’s face. "If you like it, have some more. And this one, it’s a flavor you like too." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Vivian Quincy took the small cake and tried a bite of that as well, once again showering him with praise.

Hayden Kaye, who had been down for the past few days, was overjoyed by Vivian’s few half-hearted compliments. He was so happy he was practically ecstatic.

Hayden Kaye didn’t even notice when Jasper Ford appeared, too busy presenting his offerings. "This is the yogurt you used to love, and this candy is pretty good, I’ve tried it before. And this chicken-shaped biscuit..."

"AHEM!" Jasper Ford cleared his throat.

Hayden Kaye, who had been showing off his gifts like treasures, turned his head. Seeing it was Jasper Ford, he quickly said, "Hello, Ninth Uncle."

"What are you doing here?" Jasper Ford’s gaze swept over the table laden with food and the crumbs lingering at the corner of Vivian Quincy’s mouth, his expression darkening.

Hayden Kaye said, "I was passing by a coffee shop and thought I’d bring some things over. Have you had lunch, Ninth Uncle?"

"I have." Jasper Ford tapped his long, slender fingers on Vivian Quincy’s desk. His magnetic voice was low and filled with warning. "Eating is forbidden in the work area. If you soil a contract, it’s a responsibility you cannot bear."

The bite of cake suddenly felt stuck in Vivian Quincy’s throat. She couldn’t eat another bite and nodded quickly. "I understand."

With that, she quickly closed up the bags, not daring to eat anything else.

Hayden Kaye felt Jasper Ford was being too strict and couldn’t help but speak up. "Ninth Uncle, what Vivian is eating is quite neat. She won’t get the contracts dirty."

Jasper Ford ignored Hayden Kaye, walking toward his office with a cold expression.

Hayden Kaye said to Vivian Quincy, "Wait for me a minute." He then hurried after Jasper Ford.

Vivian Quincy remained at her desk, watching that cold, impossibly arrogant back as he walked away. A sudden chill ran down her spine. ’He’s angry,’ she thought.

’Whatever.’ She lowered her head and went back to work.

Determined to stand up for his ex-girlfriend, Hayden Kaye chased Jasper Ford all the way to his office. "Ninth Uncle, Vivian is just a girl. You shouldn’t be so harsh with her. I think you ought to be gentler with women. If you really don’t like her, you can let her come to my company. I’d be more than happy to have her work with me."

Jasper Ford stopped in his tracks, turned his head, and uttered two words as cold as ice: "Go back."

Hayden Kaye froze, then immediately tried to explain. "Ninth Uncle, don’t be angry. I’m just thinking of you. You’re clearly unhappy every time you see Vivian, and her work performance is just average, no different from your other secretaries. Why can’t you just let her go?"

"Is it because of her employment contract? If you’re concerned about breach of contract, Ninth Uncle, I can pay the several million in termination fees for her."

"Silence."

Jasper Ford’s cold command made Hayden Kaye snap his mouth shut.

Hayden Kaye stared at him blankly, completely bewildered.

Jasper Ford said, "Vivian Quincy is not leaving Imperium. Not now, not ever. Unless..."

"Unless what?" Hayden Kaye asked, his heart filled with joy and hope.

A cruel, disdainful smirk touched the corner of Jasper Ford’s lips. "Unless she dies."

Those three simple words plunged the entire office into a deathly silence.

Hayden Kaye was terrified.

Meanwhile, Beanie Quincy, who had been asleep on the sofa, opened his eyes at the sound of their conversation. He blinked his big, sparkling eyes. "Ford, what are you trying to do?"

Jasper Ford glanced back at the little boy who had woken up again, displeased. "Go back to sleep."

"I heard Ford talking about my mommy." Beanie craned his neck and asked with a serious expression, "My mommy is young and pretty, and a lot of people are pursuing her, but she’s a woman with ambition. She’s definitely going to leave Imperium Group one day, and I’ll leave with her. You should be clear on that, Ford."

The little boy’s voice was soft, still hazy with sleep. It should have been a pleasant sound, but to Jasper Ford, every word was grating.

’Yes,’ he thought, ’I’d love to tape Beanie’s mouth shut to stop him from spouting such nonsense.’

Hearing Beanie’s words, Hayden Kaye, who had felt completely outnumbered, seemed to find an ally. His confidence returned. "Beanie’s right, Ninth Uncle! You can’t be so selfish. Vivian is just your assistant. She only works at Imperium Group to make a living. Once she has enough savings, she’s definitely going to leave."

"Instead of waiting for that to happen, why don’t you just let her go now, Ninth Uncle? You’d be doing me a huge favor!"

At this point, Jasper Ford didn’t just want to sew Beanie’s mouth shut; he wanted to sew Hayden Kaye’s shut as well.
