A Heaven-sent Sweet Child Falls Asking for Hugs-Chapter 132: Do You Really Have a Hidden Ailment?
The entire apartment filled with a delicious aroma. A famished Vivian Quincy finally got to dig into the crayfish, her mouth watering uncontrollably. It smelled so good!
No wonder Beanie, who was normally so well-behaved and would never open the door for anyone late at night, had given in to temptation and let Jasper Ford in. The smell was simply irresistible!
Vivian Quincy’s eyes crinkled into beautiful crescent moons as she smiled.
"Oh my god, what is going on? Am I dreaming?" Suddenly, a stunned voice came from behind.
Anna, who had also been woken by the tantalizing aroma, saw the scene in the living room and her eyes flew wide in shock.
’What in the world is happening?’
’The CEO of Imperium Group, that vixen Wanda Quincy’s fiancé, is actually here in my and Vivian’s apartment? And there’s all this delicious food on the table...’
Mouth watering, Anna walked over, thinking she must be dreaming. She couldn’t help but shoot a baffled look at Vivian. "Vivian, why is he here?"
Just as Vivian was about to explain, Anna cut in, "And he bought all this food? My god, has this stingy bastard finally decided to spend some money?"
A dangerous curve formed on the man’s cold, sharp lips.
Beanie, who had been happily slurping down crayfish, choked on Anna’s words. He quickly looked up to sneak a peek at Jasper Ford and noticed his expression had darkened.
Beanie quickly said, "Uncle Ford just got here! Aunt Anna, go wash your hands. There’s too much for just us to eat."
Vivian, also fearing Jasper’s wrath—she had seen him lose his temper before and the memory still sent a chill down her spine—quickly dragged Anna into the bathroom to wash her face.
Once she was done, Anna was finally wide awake.
Realizing it wasn’t a dream, Anna’s jaw nearly hit the floor. She pointed toward the living room and whispered in disbelief, "What is happening? Why is he here?"
"Beanie said he was hungry, and Jasper was apparently passing by after work, so he brought some food over," Vivian told Anna what she knew.
But Anna found it extremely odd. "That seems impossible. We’re talking about Jasper Ford, the heir of the Ford Family, that cold and ruthless Wanda Quincy’s fiancé! It’s the middle of the night. He wouldn’t bring food for your son of all people!"
"I heard even Wanda Quincy doesn’t get this kind of treatment."
The more Anna thought about it, the stranger it became. Her eyes suddenly flew wide as she stared hard at Vivian. "Tell me the truth. Is there something going on between you two?"
"What are you talking about?!" Vivian was so startled by Anna’s question that her voice involuntarily shot up.
"Keep your voice down," Anna said. "I was just asking."
"That’s impossible!" Vivian explained, both embarrassed and indignant. "Jasper Ford and I are just boss and employee. Besides, he hasn’t said a single word to me at the office these last few days. How could there possibly be something going on between us?!"
Anna tilted her head, pondering. ’Then what could it be?’
"I don’t know either. Maybe he just likes children?" Vivian guessed. "You know how it is. He’s rich and powerful, but he’s getting older and still doesn’t have a son. He must have some... private health issue. That’s probably why he’s especially fond of kids."
The two were whispering, intentionally keeping their voices low, thinking Jasper couldn’t possibly hear them. But they underestimated his hearing, especially in the quiet of the night.
Beanie’s hearing, however, was also quite sharp. He looked up, blinking his big, innocent, crystal-clear eyes. "Uncle Ford, do you really have a private health issue?"
A grim look flashed across Jasper Ford’s cold profile. He didn’t answer Beanie’s question directly. Instead, he cleared his throat and called out, "Vivian Quincy, get out here."
The five simple words were laced with palpable anger.
Hearing her name, Vivian jumped and rushed out. "What’s wrong?"
"What were you two whispering about in there?" Jasper Ford demanded, one of his sharp brows raised.
Vivian quickly replied, "Nothing! We were just talking. That’s all." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"Is that so?" he asked, his eyes fixed on her.
Vivian lowered her head guiltily. She had a sinking feeling he’d heard everything. Unsure how to defend herself, she decided to pretend nothing had happened. She quietly returned to her seat, put on a pair of disposable gloves, and began to eat furiously, stuffing her face to avoid speaking.
Coming out of the bathroom, Anna also sensed the tense atmosphere. Being sharp, she knew not to ask questions. Aware that Jasper had paid for the food—and you don’t bite the hand that feeds you—Anna switched into full-on flattery mode, showering praise on how delicious everything was.
Jasper merely gave a slight nod, his gaze shifting to Vivian. "You should learn from your friend."
Vivian froze. ’Learn what from Anna?’
Anna understood his meaning and said with a smile, "President Ford, Vivian isn’t great at expressing herself, but deep down, she really likes you."
Vivian’s eye twitched. ’Me? Like Jasper Ford? What the hell! Anna is throwing me to the wolves!’
Just as she was about to argue, Anna continued, "It’s so rare to find someone as generous and considerate of their employees’ families as President Ford. Everyone loves a boss like you! Not like at my company, where the boss is not only a cheapskate but also loves to yell at everyone!"
Hearing that explanation, Vivian breathed a sigh of relief. Her heart, which had leaped into her throat, settled back into her chest.
Anna continued, "For Vivian to be able to work with you is a blessing she must have earned in a past life. I’m sure she’ll work very hard by your side, and I hope you’ll treat her well and not disappoint her earnest dedication."
Vivian: "..."
’Why does this sound more and more off?’
’Vivian felt that Anna wasn’t just praising Jasper; she was practically playing matchmaker, trying to set her up with him!’
The expression on the man’s calm, handsome face shifted slightly.
Vivian quickly tried to change the subject. "Can’t all this food shut you up?" she said to Anna. "Why are you spouting such nonsense at this hour?"
"But I am eating," Anna said with a laugh.
"Then stop talking and just eat. Shut up," Vivian hissed, not daring to let Anna say another word.
More importantly, Anna had also pulled out Vivian’s prized bottled cocktails and had already downed two by herself. Her head was getting fuzzy, and nothing she said was making any sense. Vivian felt that if Anna kept this up, she and Jasper would end up getting married on the spot!
Vivian was terrified Jasper would fly into a rage and slaughter them both, and they wouldn’t live to see the sunrise.
A shiver ran down her spine just thinking about it. She desperately shoved meat, skewers, and crayfish at Anna, but still couldn’t manage to shut her up.
She rambled on for ages and only quieted down after a warning from Jasper.
Jasper had bought way too much food. Even after eating for an hour, they couldn’t finish it all. Eventually, they were so stuffed they couldn’t take another bite, slumping motionlessly in their chairs.
Only Beanie’s little mouth was still going strong.
Jasper wiped the chili oil from the little boy’s mouth. "Don’t eat so much," he said. "It’s not good to overstuff yourself."
Beanie immediately put down his chopsticks and gave Jasper a delighted, sweet smile. "Thank you, Uncle Ford."
"Beanie is such a good boy." Jasper was in a delightful mood, and his voice was incredibly gentle when he spoke to the child.
Anna watched, stunned. Under the table, she couldn’t resist tugging on Vivian’s sleeve and whispering, "He’s incredibly handsome when he smiles!"
Vivian couldn’t help but sneak a few more glances at Jasper. He really was handsome, but ’Does a man like that have any good qualities besides his looks?’
"Shallow," Vivian muttered under her breath.
With that, she got up to clear the table.
With nothing better to do, Anna started helping her.
