Chapter 10: Chapter 10: If You Have the Guts, Repay With Your Life

Vivian Quincy was confused. ’When did I become so capable?’

"Why would you lose your job if I left?" Vivian Quincy asked.

The supervisor said, "The CEO was furious when he found out I fired you without authorization. He said that if you don’t come back, he’s going to fire me. Vivian, I know I was wrong. I promise I won’t bully you anymore. Please, will you come back with me?"

"Your CEO knows me?" Vivian Quincy was astonished.

The supervisor shook her head. "I don’t know."

Vivian Quincy found this very strange. She suddenly remembered what Wanda Quincy had said that morning and asked, "Is your CEO Wanda Quincy’s fiancé?"

"Yes." The supervisor nodded. ’Isn’t that common knowledge throughout Crestfall?’ 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Now Vivian Quincy understood. No wonder Wanda Quincy had been so furious. It seemed she really didn’t want her at Imperium Group!

"Alright, I agree. I’ll come back to work tomorrow, but my workload..."

"I’ll assign three more people to assist you!"

Before Vivian Quincy could finish, the supervisor ecstatically held up three fingers to guarantee it. After she left, Vivian Quincy closed the door.

Her phone in the room was ringing nonstop. There were over a dozen missed calls and several video invitations. The calls were all from Hayden Kaye. Annoyed, Vivian Quincy deleted the call log and opened her chat with Beanie.

The moment the video call connected, a pitiful little boy’s voice came from the other end. "Mommy, why did it take you so long to answer? Beanie missed you so much."

"I just finished with work. How about I come pick you up tomorrow?" Vivian Quincy asked gently.

Beanie Quincy counted on his little fingers. "Miss Ford has no one to keep her company. She’s so pitiful. Today, when Beanie said her son was useless, she almost hit him."

"How could you say something like that? It’s very rude. Don’t say it again," Vivian Quincy said, shocked by the little guy, and immediately corrected him.

Beanie Quincy obediently said "oh," then added aggrievedly, "But Beanie wasn’t wrong. I heard Miss Ford say her son is old and still can’t have a son. The doctors even say he’s sick, and he’s so cold to people. I think he must be really sick. Poor Miss Ford." After a pause, Beanie added, "Mommy, should we ask Godfather to come treat her son?"

"Uh... your godfather is a surgeon!" Vivian Quincy said.

Beanie Quincy blinked innocently. "Can’t a surgeon treat him?"

"He needs to see a urologist," Vivian Quincy said, her cheeks flushing slightly.

Beanie Quincy grew even more confused. "Is a urologist different from a surgeon?"

"Be a good boy, Beanie. Don’t ask so many questions. Mommy will come get you tomorrow," Vivian Quincy said softly.

Beanie Quincy hugged his pillow reluctantly and nodded obediently. "Okay, I’ll wait for you."

Vivian Quincy smiled and ended the call. She took a shower and was about to go to sleep when a call from Fiona Hughes instantly chased away her drowsiness. The gist of it was a tirade, calling her a shameless, ungrateful wretch who had ruined Wanda Quincy’s future and bullied her, and telling Vivian Quincy to just go die.

Vivian Quincy hung up the phone. She wasn’t going to leave until she found Beanie’s biological father.

Fiona Hughes’s face turned green with rage, a fire of frustration burning in her chest with nowhere to go. She turned angrily to a tearful Wanda Quincy beside her and said, "You were right. Vivian Quincy is a wolf cub that can’t be tamed. If I had known she would turn out like this, I should have let her die outside back then!"

"Mom, she’s working at Jasper Ford’s company now and investigating what happened six years ago. What will I do if she finds out?" Wanda Quincy frantically grabbed Fiona Hughes’s hand, filled with a fear she had never felt before.

"Madam Ford has never liked me. If she finds out she has a great-grandson, she’ll definitely bring Beanie Quincy home. She might even make Jasper marry Vivian Quincy! What will I do then? I’ll become the laughingstock of all Crestfall. I’d be better off dead!"

Fiona Hughes pulled a distressed Wanda Quincy into her arms and comforted her in a low voice, "Don’t be afraid. Mommy won’t let that day come. I’ll go see Vivian Quincy tomorrow. I was the one who took her in; her life belongs to me. Mommy won’t let her get in your way."

With her mother’s assurance, a triumphant smile finally appeared on Wanda Quincy’s face.

After a night’s rest, Vivian Quincy went to the company early the next day. Her supervisor was thrilled and even called back the employees who had originally been in charge of cleaning and inventory, assigning them to help Vivian share the workload.

Vivian Quincy’s morning was relatively easy. She was busy all morning, and during her lunch break, she was about to head home when her phone rang.

"I’m at the entrance of your company. Come out." It was Fiona Hughes, her tone completely commanding.

Vivian Quincy clutched her phone, the words Fiona had said to her six years ago flashing through her mind. She couldn’t help but sneer. "I have nothing to see you about."

"If you don’t come out, I’ll go in and find you. If your colleagues happen to hear something they shouldn’t, you’ll have no one to blame but me," Fiona Hughes threatened, intentionally alluding to the events of six years ago.

For a young woman, her reputation was everything.

Vivian Quincy’s slender fingers turned pale. Her beautiful face looked strained as she gritted her teeth. "Fine!"

The meeting spot was a Western restaurant next to Imperium Group. Fiona Hughes was dressed in designer brands, wearing oversized sunglasses and a hat that covered half her face, as if she was desperate not to be recognized.

When Vivian Quincy arrived, Fiona Hughes couldn’t help but look her up and down, a disdainful sneer playing on her lips. "It’s been six years, and this is what you’ve become? The cost of your entire outfit wouldn’t even buy Wanda a pair of socks. Who gave you the courage to come back to Crestfall?"

Vivian Quincy replied, poised, "You don’t need to worry about how I’m doing. On the other hand, you and your daughter have done so many terrible things over the years. I wonder when karma will catch up to you."

Fiona Hughes was furious. "Who do you think you are, talking to me like that!"

Fiona Hughes had a loud voice, and they were in a high-end, quiet Western restaurant. Her shout made nearby customers turn to look. Realizing she had overreacted, Fiona Hughes quickly lowered her voice. "I don’t want to waste my breath on you. I have one demand: take your child and leave. Out of pity, I can give you fifty thousand as compensation."

As if shooing away a beggar, Fiona Hughes took out a bank card and threw it on the table, her entire being radiating an air of arrogance.

Vivian Quincy didn’t even glance at it, retorting scornfully, "Six years ago, you didn’t care if I lived or died for the sake of money. What makes you think I have any reason to listen to you now? Fifty thousand? That’s not even enough to get rid of a beggar. If you’ve got the guts, pay me back with your life!"

With that, Vivian Quincy snapped the bank card in two. The crisp sound of it breaking made Fiona Hughes’s face twist in fury. She took off her sunglasses and stared at Vivian Quincy in disbelief. "Don’t make me do this the hard way!"

Vivian Quincy turned and walked away.

Having failed to achieve her goal, how could Fiona Hughes possibly let her leave? She lunged forward and started grappling with Vivian Quincy!

At the end of the hallway, Caden Chandler was reporting to Jasper Ford as they walked. Suddenly, he saw Jasper stop. Curiously following Jasper’s cold gaze, he was shocked to see Vivian Quincy right there!
