Chapter 182: A Visit Together

"...Mama... you’re always with Lian. Cari wants to be with Mama too."

Just as Qiong Xing suspected, Cari had been feeling uneasy.

"Mama... don’t want Cari anymore?"

"Of course, no," Qiong Xing said immediately. "I’m very happy that Cari is here. Lian is important, but Cari is also my precious family. Or... has Cari started to dislike this kind of mama?"

"No! Cari loves Mama!"

"I also loves Cari very much. So please stay with me forever, alright?"

"Okay!"

When Qiong Xing hugged him tightly, Cari smiled and hugged him back just as firmly.

"Lian is also my child," he continued gently. "She will surely like Cari too. What should I do if she says she loves her big brother and then refuses to play with me because she only wants to play with his big brother?"

"Cari is here! Cari is here!"

Qiong Xing had only meant it as a joke, but Cari quickly insisted that it would be fine because he was there.

The sight of him trying so hard was so adorable that Qiong Xing could not help smiling warmly.

"That’s right. If Cari is here—"

"Papa is here too!"

"..."

For a moment, Qiong Xing did not know how to react.

It felt strange.

It feels something like... Wait... you are joining the conversation now?

"I see," Qiong Xing said calmly. "For now, Papa should apologize to Lian for waking her up with that loud voice."

Lian was not crying, but her eyes were wide open as she blinked in surprise.

Qiong Xing wanted Leander to apologize to her.

She had just finally fallen asleep peacefully.

"Little Lian... I’m sorry."

"What a troublesome papa," Qiong Xing said with a sigh.

"It’s okay, it’s okay," Leander muttered awkwardly while trying to soothe the baby.

While Qiong Xing watched Leander struggle to calm her down, Cari reached out his small hand and gently patted Lian’s head.

Soon after, Lian seemed to relax and slowly fell asleep again.

Qiong Xing watched the scene with surprise.

"...He understands?" Leander asked quietly.

He did not know exactly what Cari understood, but it seemed like the child had sensed something.

"Now that I thinks about it, Cari seemed to understand even when Lian was still in the stomach," Qiong Xing said thoughtfully. "Maybe there is some kind of connection between them. As expected of a big brother."

It was adorable. Truly adorable.

Leander’s ears drooped as he looked disappointed, which was also very cute. And Cari, who was still so small yet already trying to protect his little sister as her big brother was also adorable.

The two of them were very serious, but Qiong Xing could not help feeling that he was very happy.

"Having Cari here really helped," Qiong Xing said.

"...Yeah," Leander agreed.

The worried look Cari had shown earlier was completely gone.

Now he gently patted Lian’s head and looking like a reliable older brother.

"If this keeps up, I might be able to relax a little," he joked.

"No, that’s not how it works," Leander replied immediately.

"Yes... that’s true."

Half of that had been a joke.

Only half.

...

"Alright, let’s go!"

When Qiong Xing said that, Joa who had been about to enter the room stopped moving.

"Hold on. Go where?"

"Huh? To visit the old lady... Wait... didn’t I mention that?"

No, he definitely had not.

Qiong Xing was standing there ready to go, with Lian, Cari, and Mayo with him.

Joa frowned and complained that he had never heard anything about this.

"Hm? Yesterday I told—ah... I told Elias. Sorry."

So apparently he had told someone.

Just the wrong person.

"Then maybe you should ask Albe to go with you—"

"I’ll get ready now. Wait here."

It was good that Qiong Xing had not planned to go alone. But Albe did not know the location. And if Qiong Xing tried to guide the way himself, getting lost was almost guaranteed.

Joa had the day off anyway.

He had no particular plans.

So after preparing quickly, he gathered Qiong Xing and the others and left the hideout with them.

"Cari, what color do you like?"

"Hmmm... um... y-yellow!"

"Not white?"

"I like white too. But white is Mama’s color."

"I see."

It seemed Cari had described Qiong Xing’s golden eyes as yellow.

"Thank you. Ah, Mayo is white too. Then I will add this one... and it’s finished!"

"Cari finished too!"

Mayo brought a white flower in his mouth and they added it to the bouquet and flower crowns they were making.

The last time they had visited the old woman, she had been very happy to receive them. So Qiong Xing decided to bring them again.

He even made a small flower crown for the sleeping Lian and gently placed it on her head.

"Joa, do you want one too?"

"No."

Joa had simply been looking at Lian, but Qiong Xing suddenly asked if he wanted a flower crown.

Joa denied it immediately.

He had only thought the baby looked cute.

It was not like he was jealous or anything.

Qiong Xing laughed and said it had only been a joke.

In return, Joa lightly knocked him on the head.

"Hello."

"Oh my, what adorable visitors. And so many of you. I’m very happy."

They arrived at the old woman’s house without getting lost.

Qiong Xing even praised Joa for it in a strange way before they entered the house.

"We came today to greet you and give you some news."

"...Hello."

Cari greeted her while hiding behind Qiong Xing.

Mayo also carefully poked his head out and lowered it slightly as if trying not to scare her.

"Oh my, hello. I’m so happy you came again. And that child over there is new, isn’t he? It’s alright, I’m not scary."

Even though Mayo had grown fairly big, the old woman showed no fear and greeted him with a warm smile.

"And this child was born recently. His name is Qiong Lian. She is my child."
