Chapter 175: Trouble Follows

"Approaching someone without introducing yourself, and then trying to grab them, is very rude," Qiong Xing said calmly. "There is a child with us. If you intend to cause trouble, then we will respond appropriately."

"I got it! I was wrong, so let go of my arm!" the man shouted.

"Hmm... what should Qiong Xing do?" Qiong Xing said calmly.

"Why not just hand him over to the guards?" Albe suggested. "He’s annoying anyway. They’ll deal with him however they want."

"I see."

Leaving troublesome matters to someone else was definitely easier.

"You’re right. In that case—"

"H-Hey, wait a second! That’s not it! You’ve got the wrong idea!"

The man had a strong build, but Qiong Xing had enhanced his strength with body reinforcement magic. Because of that, the grip holding the man down was too strong for him to escape.

"He’s noisy. Let’s just leave him here," Albe said.

"That sounds good," Qiong Xing agreed. "If you don’t want to be suspected, then don’t do something foolish like following us."

"I told you that’s not it! Just listen to me!"

"I refuse. Let’s go."

"Wait, I said!"

Ignoring the man’s shouting, Qiong Xing decided not to go straight home, just to be safe.

Instead, they stopped by the guild.

"A suspicious man tried to bother us," Qiong Xing explained. "Please let us stay here for a little while."

"What did you say?!" Sarin shouted. "Alright, leave it to your grandpa! I’ll go cut him into pieces right now!"

"..."

"...Huh?"

Qiong Xing could only stare at Sarin’s back as he ran off.

Actually, it wasn’t that Qiong Xing couldn’t say anything.

It was more accurate to say that he chose not to.

Sarin had misunderstood the situation perfectly, but it was probably fine to let him handle it.

However, Albe was staring at Qiong Xing from the side.

"You really..." Albe muttered.

"I didn’t do anything," Qiong Xing replied calmly. "Besides, Lian is with us. If something happened, it would be dangerous, right?"

Katarina looked like she wanted to say something, but this time the situation really couldn’t be helped.

"Fine, fine," she said. "So? That idiot ran off without asking anything, but what kind of person was he?"

"Well... that’s the problem," Qiong Xing replied. "Albe, what did you see?"

Back then, Qiong Xing had felt something strange and tried to confirm it with Albe. But until Qiong Xing mentioned it, Albe didn’t seem to notice anything unusual.

"What did I see? Just some weird guy," Albe said.

So that was it.

Qiong Xing had suspected it already, but it seemed that what Albe saw and what Qiong Xing saw were different.

"...I also saw a young man," he explained. "But I don’t know if it was magic or something else. His figure looked... distorted. Like it was flickering or being blocked somehow."

"Recognition interference?" Katarina said. "Someone who can use something like that would usually be a demon... or maybe a dragon."

A dragon?

"The dragon race can use magic?" Qiong Xing asked.

"They can," Katarina replied. "But not as well as demons."

"Then—"

"But dragons are exactly what the name says," she continued.

"They’re dragons."

"Huh?"

Qiong Xing asked what that meant.

Katarina explained that the dragon race could take both the form of a dragon and the form of a human.

Hearing that, Qiong Xing suddenly felt hopeful.

Then maybe Leander and the others could turn into beasts too!

But that hope quickly disappeared.

Apparently, long ago there had been beastmen who could transform into their beast forms.

However, over time, after generations of slavery, they had forgotten how to do it.

The current beastmen could no longer transform.

Living alongside humans for so long had likely caused that change.

"If their true body is a dragon, then their human form is only temporary," Katarina explained. "They’re forcing that huge body into a smaller shape. When they do that, their power and abilities drop a lot."

"But there’s still a chance he could be a demon, right?" Qiong Xing said. "Maybe he was one of Albe’s people—"

"That possibility is pretty low," Albe said, shaking his head. "I didn’t feel any magic being used. Even if I somehow missed it, a constant magic like that would use a huge amount of magic power."

Qiong Xing himself probably wouldn’t have a problem with something like that. But for demons, whose magic power was limited, maintaining something like that would be a heavy burden.

If they used too much magic and became unable to move, the only thing waiting for them would be death.

Because of that, the more likely possibility was that the man belonged to the dragon race, which could naturally take two forms.

"I see. Still, this is the first time I have seen a dragon race member. Are there many of them?" Qiong Xing asked.

"Very few," Katarina said. "Actually, people say they went extinct."

"...What?"

"Then that means—"

"But that’s only what we’ve heard," Katarina continued. "There might be survivors."

"Hmmm..."

Maybe Qiong Xing had accidentally attracted the attention of someone troublesome.

"Honestly," Albe said, sighing, "you really manage to get into trouble one thing after another."

"I didn’t do it on purpose..." Qiong Xing replied.

All he had done was quietly talk with Albe about something that caught his attention.

If even that was going to be blamed on him, then Qiong Xing might as well stop talking outside completely.

"For now, let’s wait for that idiot to come back," Katarina said. "If things seem safe, you can go home after that. ...And also, um..."

Katarina kept glancing toward Qiong Xing.

Qiong Xing smiled gently at her.

He then handed Lian over to her and Katarina happily accepted the baby.

Qiong Xing and the others had left the suspicious person capture mission to Sarin.

While they waited, they sat with Katarina and calmly drank tea.

Then suddenly, the quiet moment ended.

"Guild Master, please help!"

A guild employee shouted desperately.

Everyone immediately stood up and went to see what was happening.

What they saw was...

"You! Or maybe you! Which one of you is the shameless villain who dared touch my grandchild?!"

"..."
