A Former Police Officer Who Died And Get A Second Life!-Chapter 166: Unwanted Company
He probably wanted to help them somehow if he could.
Even Leander might have done the same if the situation had been different.
But the moment they pointed a blade at Qiong Xing that possibility immediately disappeared.
"To be honest, I really wanted to kill them."
"But you held back. Thank you for enduring it. I’m sorry for asking you to do something so difficult."
When Qiong Xing gently pulled him into an embrace, Leander felt relieved by the warmth of his body.
Feeling Qiong Xing’s heartbeat the one that might have stopped if things had gone wrong made the strength leave his body as tension finally faded.
"If you die, Qiong Xing... I’ll die too."
"I would prefer if you stayed alive... but I suppose it can’t be helped."
Leander was surprised when he heard that.
He had been certain Qiong Xing would try to stop him.
"...You’re okay with that?"
Even though he had said it himself, Leander never thought Qiong Xing would actually accept those words.
"Even if I tried to stop you, you wouldn’t listen, right?" Qiong Xing said calmly. "And... I would feel lonely being alone. If it’s you, Leander, I feel like even after death you would still be able to find me in the afterlife."
"Haha... leave it to me."
He would definitely find him.
Even if he died, he would never leave Qiong Xing’s side.
Qiong Xing trusted Leander more than anyone.
And he loved Leander more than anyone.
How many mates in this world would say they wanted to stay together even after death?
"But if possible, please live a long life," Qiong Xing added softly. "I will do my best as well."
"I know," Leander replied firmly. "We’ll stay together until the very end."
Qiong Xing probably wished for him to live.
Even so, he still thought about his feelings and said that it would be fine if he followed him even in death.
Leander felt deeply grateful that he had met such an incredible mate.
Qiong Xing had once heard the words during a wedding long ago... maybe at a friend’s ceremony, or perhaps in a movie.
He could not remember exactly anymore.
It was the vow people made when they married.
To love each other until death parted them.
Back then, he had thought those words sounded beautiful and sacred.
But after coming to this world, after meeting his three mates Leander, Elias, and, Joa, his thoughts about those words had slowly changed.
All three of them said the same thing.
That they could not live without him and that if he died... they would die with himas well.
Those words were so heavy that they could almost feel overwhelming. Yet Qiong Xing loved them because they said those things out of love.
They loved him that deeply.
Part of Qiong Xing wished that they would live long lives even if he was gone. But if living without him would only cause them endless suffering, then he felt it might not be necessary for them to endure that pain.
If Qiong Xing disappeared and they were forced to live a long life filled with grief and loneliness, then although it would be sad, he thought it might be better for them not to suffer like that.
That was why he had told Leander that it would be fine if he chose to follow him in death.
"Are you really okay with that?"
Leander looked at him with surprise and Qiong Xing could not help but laugh.
As expected, Leander had probably thought he would try to stop him.
"Even if I tried to stop you, you wouldn’t listen to me, right?" Qiong Xing said softly. "And... I would feel lonely being alone too. If it’s you, Leander, I’m sure that even after death you would find me in the next world."
"Haha, leave it to me."
That was a lie.
In truth, Qiong Xing wanted Leander to live.
But more than that, he did not want Leander to suffer because of him.
He was not as strong as Vita.
Even though he knew they would suffer, he could not bring himself to tell Leander and the others who said they did not want to live without him that they must continue living.
He was not denying Vita’s way of thinking.
Qiong Xing was grateful to Vita for bringing Joa into his life.
But Vita and Qiong Xing loved in different ways.
Neither way could truly be called right or wrong.
Just as Vita had loved Joa more than anyone else, Qiong Xing loved his own mates in his own way.
If that was the case, then it was fine for things to be as they wished.
Until death parted them...
That was a beautiful thought. But if they still wanted him even after death, then Qiong Xing hoped they would meet again.
Until the day they died, they would love each other as much as they could.
And when death came, they would search for each other again.
That was enough.
"You must be tired, right?" Qiong Xing said. "I made some simple food. When Albe comes back... oh? Were you that hungry?"
Before Qiong Xing could even suggest that they eat together, Leander had already grabbed a piece of roasted meat and taken a large bite.
Qiong Xing could not help but laugh.
Leander looked very cool as he bit into the meat so boldly, but Qiong Xing still wished he would have waited a little for Albe who surprisingly ate quite a lot.
"Please make sure to leave some for Albe too. Mayo, come here."
For Mayo, Qiong Xing cut the cooled meat into small pieces so it would be easier to eat.
When he asked if it tasted good, Mayo let out a cute sound.
Qiong Xing smiled and gently patted Mayo’s head.
"Still, it seems those people only arrived here recently," Qiong Xing said. "There weren’t many things here that looked suitable for people to live with."
"Hm."
