Chapter 155: A Place to Belong

He absolutely had to make Qiong Xing his grandson somehow.

Once again, Sarin began planning the "Make Qiong Xing My Grandson" operation in his mind.

"There’s someone right there who can help you. Mr. Duzy, please take care of it. This way, you won’t have to keep running a stall outside while worrying anymore."

Naz was surprised.

He had never imagined that Qiong Xing had been thinking about something like that.

Even though Duzy was his uncle and often came to check on him, Naz had always felt that he was only causing trouble for him.

Even though living alone had been his own choice, the house always felt lonely after Duzy left.

Still, Naz kept telling himself that he wasn’t a child anymore and that he should endure it.

"Who you sell it to can be decided by Mr. Sarin and the others," Qiong Xing said. "Of course, when they sell it for you, they can take a commission from the profits."

"U-Um... Qiong Xing?" Naz said nervously. "That’s a little—"

"It’s fine," Qiong Xing replied calmly. "Even after that, your profits will definitely be higher than before."

Naz wanted to say that the sake wasn’t valuable enough to deserve such treatment.

But Qiong Xing didn’t give him the chance and continued the conversation.

Of course, earning more profit would be a good thing.

But Naz felt uncomfortable letting someone he had only recently met do so much for him.

He wanted to refuse politely.

However, Naz was timid by nature and couldn’t interrupt the conversation.

By the time he realized it, the discussion had already progressed smoothly.

With the relaxed voice of the Vice-Guild Master saying, "Leave it to us," the deal was settled.

"You’re quite impressive," Duzy said with admiration.

But Naz was far from calm.

"Q-Qiong Xing... um... I... wh-what’s going on..."

He was so flustered that his tongue wouldn’t move properly and his thoughts were completely tangled.

"I’m sorry for deciding things on my own," Qiong Xing said. "But now you can make wine together with Mr. Duzy, right?"

It seemed that Qiong Xing had been worried about Naz living alone.

Because of that, he had arranged things so that Naz and Duzy could focus only on brewing sake together.

"B-But... I... I can’t... Uncle will be troubled too..."

Naz said that he had already caused his uncle enough trouble in the past and couldn’t burden him any further.

Duzy gently rubbed Naz’s head with his large hand.

"Didn’t I tell you before?" Duzy said. "I never thought you were a burden. And from now on we’ll be living together, so you can rely on me more."

"Huh?"

Naz let out a strange sound without thinking, but hearing that they could live together made him feel happy.

If they truly had stable profits from selling the sake, then there would be no problem financially.

Naz wouldn’t have to rely completely on Duzy anymore and if they could brew wine together, that would be reassuring.

"I-Is that really okay?"

Naz asked carefully, wondering if Duzy might have other things he wanted to do with his life.

But Duzy only laughed and shook his head.

The reason they hadn’t lived together until now wasn’t just because Naz was thinking about Duzy.

More than that, they simply hadn’t had enough money to support two people living together.

Even though Duzy helped sell the wine that Naz made, selling it in such a poor part of town would never bring much profit.

Most of the time, people would simply try to buy it at a very cheap price.

Naz had cut down on food, reduced his living expenses and even sacrificed sleep in order to keep making his wine.

Even so... or perhaps because he knew how hard Naz had been working, Duzy never took a commission.

Sometimes he would only ask to drink a little of the wine in return.

"I know I might be meddling," Qiong Xing said gently. "But I want you to be happy and if anyone says anything to you, tell them. I’m sure Mr. Sarin and Ms. Katarina will help you."

"Yeah... yeah... thank you, Qiong Xing," Naz said while nodding.

Qiong Xing had not only helped increase Naz’s profits, he had also arranged things so that Naz could live together with Duzy.

On top of that, he introduced them to the guild master and others so they would have support if they ever faced trouble. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Naz cried while thanking him again and again.

Qiong Xing simply smiled and hugged him gently. He then pat his back as if saying that everything would be alright.

The warmth of that gesture reminded Naz of the touch of his mother, whom he had lost many years ago.

"So?" Duzy said after a moment. "After doing all this for us, you’re not getting anything in return. Are you really okay with that?"

"Ah!?" Naz suddenly realized the same thing and quickly looked at Qiong Xing.

Qiong Xing only gave a troubled smile.

"It’s not that I get nothing," he said. "In a way... I do benefit from it. Just indirectly."

"Huh?"

Naz tilted his head in confusion.

Seeing that, Qiong Xing smiled and explained.

"Mr. Sarin cares about me a lot," he said. "Because of that, he’s been helping a lot with things for the baby in my stomach. I keep telling him that I’ll pay for them, but he refuses to accept any money."

"I see," Duzy murmured.

In other words, the guild master and Sarin had been buying many things needed for childbirth and raising a child.

Qiong Xing probably wanted to give something back, even if only a little.

In the end, that money might return to something related to Qiong Xing again anyway.

But emotionally, it was easier than simply receiving kindness without giving anything in return.

"So half of this is actually something I’m doing for myself," Qiong Xing said. "Please don’t worry about it too much. And besides, this only works because you’re so skilled. Even if I recommended it, Mr. Sarin would refuse if the wine wasn’t good. The reason he accepted is because it truly tastes good."
