A Favor Done, A Husband Won-Chapter 417 - 411: Will You Marry Me or Not?
Shi Su was dazed, but she heard what he said clearly.
The crew often occupied public spaces or rented venues, and frequently faced spot checks from the Environmental Management Bureau and related departments. Although most of the time they just went through the motions, taking a pack or two of cigarettes and leaving, occasionally, they would check the actors’ documents as well.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Shi Su often kept her identification documents in her bag, though she seldom needed them. So, she had them tucked away in the deepest part of her bag.
Shi Su quickly lowered her head and rummaged through her bag for a long time, then took out her ID, grinning as she said, "I’ve got them right here..."
She struggled to get it out with her fingers, flaunted it proudly between her fingers and said, "Here, see... want to check me? I’ve got everything... ha..."
Before she finished speaking, she was already falling forward again.
Jing Jihan caught the woman collapsing into his arms, lowered his head, kissed her cool forehead, and with a tone as gentle as coaxing a child, he softly said, "Before you, never were there so many walls, even though you once thought there were. I never intended to let you and Mianmian suffer any grievances, but you never gave me this chance. After two years, I’m asking you again, Shi Su, do you want to marry me?"
"What Mianmian... what frame... grape arbor?" Shi Su, still drowsy, lifted her head from his embrace, squinting her eyes, pointing fiercely at him as she glared, "You want... to pick grapes from our place? Before, Mianmian and I were in the United States, and there really was a grape arbor in the backyard, Mianmian even climbed on it... Those little arms and legs, almost fell... scared me to death... thieves often came to steal grapes... you... I’m warning you... don’t pick them..."
The finger she raised was held gently by the man, gripped within his palm.
"Will you marry me or not?" He placed her cold hand inside his coat, bending down to whisper by her ear.
"Hmm..." Shi Su wanted to stand up straight to burp, but being nestled in his arms, she couldn’t break free, and her hand, guided by him, was pressed against his warm body through his coat and shirt.
She snuggled into his arms, and eventually just closed her eyes, letting herself stay still, comfortably rubbing her face against his chest, as if she understood, or maybe didn’t, suddenly chuckling, "Yes, I’ll marry."
The man’s refined eyebrows moved slightly, and he immediately picked her up in his arms, obviously feeling that her wobbly pace was too slow, carrying her directly into the door ahead.
-
Every time she woke up hungover, her head ached, and this time was no exception.
But Shi Su slept well, as enough sleep and a comfortable sleeping environment greatly relieved her headache.
The outside was already daylight, the bedroom curtains tightly closed, everything quietly enveloped in darkness, an uncommon restful sleep.
Shi Su slept until after eight in the morning, finally woken by her internal body clock, thinking she was at her own place, and assuming it was still dark, reached out to pull Mianmian closer, only to find the space beside her empty.
She paused for a moment, then suddenly recognized the dimly lit bedroom masked by the curtains.
?!
How was she on the thirty-second floor of Kaixing Mansion?
She quickly sat up, feeling around for her phone on the bed, glanced at the time, then jumped out of bed, opened the bedroom door and walked out.
She didn’t see Jing Jihan.
But the air faintly carried the scent of food.
Shi Su cast a puzzled glance towards the kitchen.
It was already this time, was Jing Jihan not going to work?
Walking over, she indeed saw that the Mr. Jing who should have been at the company was currently in the kitchen, wearing comfortable, loose grey loungewear, methodically preparing breakfast at the counter.
The scene was so harmoniously natural that Shi Su wondered if she’d traveled back two years in time.
"How much did I drink last night?" she asked as she raised her hand to adjust her slightly messy hair.
She remembered going to the barbecue restaurant last night, but after drinking, her memory became a blur at some point.
The man calmly plated the fried eggs, replying indifferently, "Do you think, with your tolerance, you could’ve drunk much?"
Shi Su: "..."
Her stomach didn’t feel uncomfortable now, so she likely didn’t drink too much.
However, drunk or not, she clearly remembered Jing Jihan pressing her against the fitting room door in the shopping mall yesterday.
Shi Su rubbed under her nose with her hand, avoiding her gaze from the tall, handsome man in the kitchen, turning to leave, only to hear his voice, "Go freshen up."
Shi Su was about to respond but felt something was amiss.
Yet she couldn’t tell what it was.
She hesitated for a moment, trying not to overthink it, planning to leave after freshening up, as her scene was at night but she had promised to do an electronic cover shoot for a friend’s magazine in the afternoon, and needed to check new ad materials at the studio in the morning.
Back in the bedroom, she opened the curtains, letting the rare early winter sunlight flood in.
Shi Su looked outside again, then at the bed she’d slept in, vague scenes flickering in her mind like being on Central City Road... going somewhere... but it didn’t all come together...
Until she freshened up and washed her hair, guessing she was so drunk last night she fell asleep without bathing. Luckily, she didn’t smell of alcohol, and planned a quick wash in the studio’s rest area.
After tidying up, Shi Su picked up her phone and bag, ready to leave.
But as she stepped out of the bedroom, she immediately saw the man had already prepared breakfast, signaling her to sit as he put it on the table: "Eat breakfast before you go."
"I have things in the afternoon and evening, and I need to check studio materials in the morning and have a meeting," Shi Su looked at the time, trying not to succumb to the breakfast temptation, stating firmly, "Time’s tight, so I will..."
"Have breakfast first, I’ll drop you off later, there’s plenty of time."
The aroma wafting from the table was so enticing that Shi Su couldn’t quite grasp Jing Jihan’s natural tone and its implications but glanced at the two breakfasts, hesitantly sat back down.
Just as she picked up the utensils to eat, her gaze fell on two small red booklets nearby.
Where she previously stood, the position and the angle happened to be blocked by the plates.
Shi Su’s mind went blank for a moment, the incoherent fragments of memory instantly connected.
Seeing the words "Marriage Certificate" on them, her chopsticks nearly slipped from her hands, staring blankly at those words, not daring to touch them for a long time.
It wasn’t until Jing Jihan placed a glass of warm milk in front of her, that Shi Su snapped her eyes up to him.
The man’s calm and composed eyes met hers without any hesitation: "Aren’t you in a hurry? Why daze off? Eat."
