Chapter 327: Chapter 322: The Adorable and Biased Old Man

Mrs. Jing suddenly gave Jing Luozhou a cold glance: "What sister-in-law? You’re calling her sister-in-law even before the wedding is done?"

She continued, "Jing Sixue is busy at school during the day; she can go after work in the evening."

While speaking, Mrs. Jing glanced in Shi Su’s direction, her intentions clearly visible.

Shi Su smiled and said nothing. No matter what she thought, for now, she indeed didn’t have the status to oppose Mrs. Jing’s unreasonable suggestion.

However, Jing Luozhou suddenly couldn’t help but let out a mocking laugh: "Oh please, my brother is working late without dinner, the two of them are in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, my sis... well, alright, Shi Su, Shi Su feels sorry for her man, takes him a home-cooked dinner, they are having a sweet work-date after hours, it’s different. Why do you insist on having Jing Sixue do what Shi Su has done? Isn’t she a sister? Since when do sisters need to compete with sisters-in-law?"

Mrs. Jing furrowed her brows, glaring at Jing Luozhou, who acted as though he didn’t see her sharp gaze and continued with a sarcastic smile: "Whatever Shi Su can do, Jing Sixue has to be able to do too? Mom, where exactly is your mind at? Does that mean if my brother and Shi Su sleep together, Jing Sixue must squeeze in between them in bed?"

Shi Su’s brow twitched upon hearing this.

She had thought this issue with Jing Sixue was going to simmer and subtly torment everyone for a while, unexpectedly Jing Jihan outright rejected further contact, and Jing Luozhou wasn’t planning to give this mother and daughter any face, directly exposing it on the spot.

This is...

Awesome!

"Jing Luozhou!" Mrs. Jing looked at him in anger: "Watch your words!"

Jing Sixue blushed deeply and clung tightly to Mrs. Jing’s side, her gaze still drifting once more toward Jing Jihan, only to see him showing no intention of stopping Jing Luozhou from speaking. She immediately pressed her lips and said, "Second brother, don’t joke like that. Mom is just worried about me being in the country, a bit anxious; that’s why she keeps nagging, but I didn’t..."

"Didn’t what? Big brother is just big brother, why call him Jihan brother? You think this is Dream of the Red Chamber?" Jing Luozhou cast her a sidelong glance, with a mocking smile not reaching his eyes.

...

By dinnertime, the anger Mrs. Jing had from being provoked by Jing Luozhou still hadn’t subsided.

In the front hall, Mr. Jing finally managed to gather everyone together. There were indeed many dishes on the dining table that Shi Su liked, and Hui especially placed them closer to Shi Su.

Shi Su had never been so favored at the Shi Family, and now even with Mrs. Jing and Jing Sixue sitting right there, her mind wasn’t filled with messy thoughts. She simply felt like the Jing Family people were mythically demonized; what aristocratic aloofness? The old man is already at the top, where’s the aloofness? Clearly, he’s a cute little old man with a bias.

Of course, the bias is clearly toward her.

"Wasn’t it said that the old master doesn’t like beef? When did so many beef dishes appear on the Jing dining table?" Mrs. Jing saw the tomato beef soup in front of Shi Su and a few other dishes that were either made of tomatoes, beef, fish, or seafood, plus some little desserts, and couldn’t help but ask.

Hui answered courteously at the table: "Those are the dishes Miss Shi Su likes. Mr. Jing specifically told me before, and today the old master also said to make these dishes, so the kitchen prepared them."

Already brimming with anger, Mrs. Jing instantly lost her appetite, hesitated, and gently set down her utensils, looking toward Shi Su sitting next to Jing Jihan: "The old master hasn’t liked eating beef for years, disliking the gamy taste. Don’t you understand ’When in Rome’? Normally, eat what the Jing Family eats. Requesting separate meals is too much. Jing Sixue just returned to the country and isn’t used to local cuisine yet; she didn’t specifically ask the kitchen to prepare different dishes from morning till now. How then is the old master supposed to eat this taste?"

Does Mr. Jing not like beef?

Shi Su clearly remembered him eating it, though indeed not much.

So she straightforwardly asked: "Mr. Jing doesn’t like beef?"

Mr. Jing tutted: "That’s old news from years ago. What I didn’t like was beef from old cuisines—too gamy and tough. Nowadays, the new cuisines are quite good, and the gamy taste isn’t as strong. I eat a little now and then."

Speaking, the old man directly asked Hui to serve him a bowl of beef soup. He took a small spoon, sipped a mouthful, then smacked his lips and said with a smile, "Xiaohui’s cooking skills have improved again."

Praised, Hui smiled brightly on the side: "As long as the old master likes it."

Mr. Li, standing nearby, discreetly gave Hui a thumbs up, making her blush deeply as she continued to serve Shi Su more soup.

The scene before them was too harmonious. It took Mrs. Jing a while to realize she had indeed been abroad for too many years, only remembering the habits of the old master from over twenty years ago, when she had first married into the Jing Family.

But over twenty years had passed, and though the Jing Family appeared unchanged, time had altered many subtle things she didn’t even know.

It was clear Mrs. Jing felt a bit embarrassed at this moment, but because Mr. Jing was present, she held back from making a scene.

Thinking she was Jing Jihan’s mother after all, Shi Su took the initiative to place her own bowl of freshly served soup in the middle of the table: "Hui’s soup is really good. Auntie, you haven’t dined in the country for too many years, would you like to taste it?"

"No need, I’m eating vegetarian tonight." Mrs. Jing didn’t give her any face.

Though she didn’t save face, Shi Su as a junior didn’t mind. She merely smiled and stopped talking. Hui served her another bowl of soup, and she turned back, chatting casually with Mr. Jing.

Jing Sixue picked a few vegetarian dishes for Mrs. Jing, which softened her expression a great deal. She said to Hui, "Jing Sixue and I both eat vegetarian in the evenings, so keep that in mind."

"Alright." Hui nodded slightly.

Mr. Jing, having not seen Shi Su for a long time, chatted with her about family matters — asking how her health was recently, if she had quarreled with Jihan, or if he had bullied her; he, the old man, could support her.

Jing Jihan chuckled softly without refuting Mr. Jing’s boastful words and placed two pieces of rib onto Shi Su’s plate in front of her.

Jing Sixue suddenly gently asked: "I saw on TV last night, I think I spotted Shi Su in a historical drama."

As soon as she mentioned this, Mrs. Jing immediately turned her gaze to Jing Sixue, seemingly even she hadn’t had the chance to understand Shi Su’s background or situation, but now suddenly heard about it from Jing Sixue.
