A Dragon against the Whole World-Chapter 146 - 140: Celestial Fury – Pursuit and Escape
The firelight and smoke behind them gradually blurred in the torrential rain.
Galos and his fellow dragons soared between the high-altitude clouds, escaping danger.
Samantha’s scale armor was bulging, stuffed with Celestial Gemstones, with cyan light flickering through the gaps in her scales, reflecting in the excited slit eyes of the red dragon.
"Look at these gems!"
Samantha’s voice almost drowned out the sound of the rain as she spread her Dragon Wings, flipped in the air, and proudly displayed a gemstone, shaking their loot.
"Each one is worth exchanging for lots of gold!"
Iron Dragon Solrog glanced at the red dragon, his iron-gray scales still stained with the blood of the warehouse guards.
"Only fools trade Magic Gemstones for gold."
He said, shaking his Dragon Tail.
The Iron Dragon’s tail coiled around a large uncut Celestial Stone, about the size of a human adult’s head, its surface coursing with wind magic patterns.
"The purity is good; too bad the cutting technique is too crude."
He critically tapped the surface of the gemstone with his claw: "These people have no idea how to handle real treasures."
Galos flew at the forefront, with the crossbow arrow sticking out of his black-red scales, rain pouring over the shaft, washing away streaks of Dragon Blood, quickly evaporated into mist from the heat.
Crack!
He snapped the shaft with his paw and grimaced, pulling out the barbed arrowhead, leaving a bloody hole on his body, a body that bore several such wounds, large and small.
Regular armies equipped with war machines are far beyond what those noble private troops were capable of.
The power of those crossbow cannons was formidable, fast, and precise, the quality of the Alchemy Golems exceptionally high, impossible to destroy with one or two hits.
Galos had activated his enthusiasm mode in advance while creating chaos.
Yet within a dense bombardment, he couldn’t help but be hit a few times.
The hardened body’s magic-like skill was quickly broken, and the scale armor couldn’t completely resist the fierce assaults of the heavy crossbows and Demon Refining Golems, leaving remarkable scars on his scale armor, not quite severe wounds, but more than minor scuffs.
Thankfully it was Galos.
If it were any ordinary young dragon.
The anti-air heavy crossbows could penetrate right through them, causing more than just flesh wounds.
And then there’s the Anti-Sky Pillar.
It didn’t completely strip Galos of his flying skills, but it did cause a sudden heaviness to his body at the time, only because Galos’ wings were too powerful, he could still bear it.
If it were Solrog or Samantha, they would have plummeted straight to the ground, hence why he destroyed the Anti-Sky Pillar immediately, or there’d be no way to grab anything afterward.
Confronting regular troops, one must not take them lightly but rather be serious.
Galos pondered silently.
This raid on the mining stronghold was not just to make a fortune before departure but also to test the strength of regular troops.
During his young dragon phase.
No matter the scale, he would keep a distance from such strongholds.
The current young Galos, although bearing some wounds, could retreat unscathed from intense frontal clashes.
He’d truly grown much.
"This harvest exceeded expectations." The Red Iron Dragon glanced back at the two companions: "Samantha, stop showing off, close your scales tightly, or the gems might fall."
The red dragon unwillingly tucked in her scales, dimming those cyan lights.
Solrog also shrunk his Dragon Tail, tightly clutching the largest Celestial Gemstone, saying: "With an enchanter skilled in arrays, this gemstone could be used as the core to set up a powerful barrier."
Galos nodded slightly, then narrowed his Dragon Eyes a bit, looking back at the distant horizon.
Through the curtain of rain, the mining stronghold was faintly visible.
Though indistinguishable, Galos was certain the guards there were already reporting the emergency situation of an attack and robbery, perhaps even calling for reinforcements.
"They won’t let it slide."
Galos’s deep voice was exceptionally clear amid the rain: "Next few days, we must be particularly cautious to avoid being hunted down."
Samantha gave a disdainful snort: "Let them come chasing! I’ll make them taste Dragon Breath."
The Iron Dragon glanced at her: "Foolish, if it’s a professional Dragon Slaying Team, your bit of flame wouldn’t even scorch their Anti-Magic Shield."
Just as the red dragon was about to retort, Galos suddenly raised a paw to signal silence.
The Dragon Race’s keen hearing had already captured the distant engine roar like thunder.
The sound wasn’t from the mining stronghold but from a Lothern Federation Guard area to the east.
Galos felt a chill in his heart, turning to look east.
With the gradually conspicuous engine sound, the clouds were torn apart, revealing the latest metal wings with a wingspan exceeding forty meters, consisting of three thousand two hundred Quenched Steel Feathers, each fringed with Wind-Breaking and Floating Runes.
This alchemy golem, code-named "Celestial Fury," sped swiftly towards the young dragon.
The nineteen-point-eight-meter tall steel body shredded the wind and rain, forming a suffocating howl.
Its head was designed in an eagle-like streamlined shape, with a dim blue glow flickering within the eye sockets; as the hydraulic neck extended and contracted, the pupils on the metal face armor simultaneously locked onto the three young dragons.
The Raymond Duchy troops attacked and robbed had requested this high-energy golem from the nearest Federation Guard for assistance.
For the young dragons, combat was not a wise choice, because follow-ups might include other golems and powerful pursuers, they mustn’t be caught.
"Split up."
Galos commanded briefly with a solemn expression: "Regroup at Quenching Highlands."
The Iron Dragon and Red Dragon knew the situation was dire, responding with action.
Samantha first turned south, her red scales tracing a bright path through the rain, whereas Solrog silently submerged into the clouds, his iron-gray silhouette merging with the dark clouds.
Galos gauged Celestial Fury’s speed, took a deep breath.
The cold rain and roaring wind rushed down the throat of the Red Iron Dragon, filling his lungs.
Galos turned his head and exhaled Electric Fire Dragon Breath, the brilliant dragon breath cutting through wind and rain, striking towards Celestial Fury.
The runes on the steel feathers all lit up.
The massive steel body elegantly arced mid-air, dodging the dragon breath, then surged with blue flames from its back, piercing through the rain, locking onto Galos on a straight pursuit.
It determined Galos was of higher rank, prioritizing as prey.
Galos didn’t rush to accelerate, temporarily entangling with Celestial Fury; when the distance closed gradually and the other two young dragons had reached different directions, he grinned, squeezed out the Black Oil Tank from his storage stomach, crushed and swallowed it, then licked a bit of fairy scale powder taken from inside his scale armor.
The ends of his silver wing bones instantly erupted a thick, surging dark-red blaze, like lit fire over gasoline.
Enthusiasm mode!
He activated Enthusiasm mode simultaneously, golden lightning dancing across his body.
Boom!
A tremor of the wings, the Red Iron Dragon breached the sound barrier instantly, unleashing ring-shaped shockwaves radiating outward, trails of blazing red-gold behind him.
In a flash, he propelled himself eight hundred meters ahead, crashing a blank channel through the rain.
Celestial Fury pursued in vain.
It was a sky-type combat golem equipped with flying modules, and not slow in speed, but compared to Galos’s supersonic sprint, it was far from adequate.
Strength and defense were secondary.
Galos’s speed and maneuverability were his greatest assets, his most significant advantage now.
Creatures below the legendary rank, even with much higher level, unless naturally fast like him, would struggle to match his speed.
A few minutes later.
Celestial Fury could only see a point of light, faintly visible, vanishing into thick and deep rain.
It had lost its target.
High amidst distant clouds.
The golden lightning on Galos’s body gradually subsided, breathing heavily, each beat of the wings carrying the unsteady tremor yet to calm.
He glanced back at the pursuer long gone beyond the horizon, the Dragon Heart in his chest still pounding fiercely.
Not out of fear, but some indescribable thrill.
