A Bastard's Allure-Chapter 35: Bunny’s Breakfast
The golden rays of the morning sun penetrated through the slightly open windows falling on Elena’s beautiful face. She was sleeping peacefully, her lips slightly pouted.
Apart from the sun, Gabriel Sinclair was seated on the edge of the bed, his eyes dreamingly staring at the sleeping beauty lying on the bed. His hands rested on his cheeks, his unblinking eyes drinking in the rare morning scene.
Her lips looked dry and the idea of making them moist crossed his mind several times. Still, she had barred him from it. Otherwise, the last straw of self restraint would have fleed ages ago. Truly, she deserved to be honored for being the best executioner.
His eyes traveled with her length setting on her curved hips. Gods! She was a feast to the eye. Her legs looked radiant, shining in the morning sun as if painted with glitters. If only he had the chance to touch her.. kiss her. A list of things he’d do to her crossed his mind and tearing the thin fabric she was wearing appeared more appealing right now than the others.
His eyes shifted back to her peaceful face and as if she had noticed him, she fluttered her eyes open, the simple action making Gabriel’s heart race.
The figure of Gabriel was the first thing she saw, his eyes filled with something she couldn’t comprehend.
"Good morning wife," he said, forming a smile. Elena had to admit it was one of the most beautiful things she had seen after such a long time since she came to Eldoria.
Supporting herself with her hands, she woke up, her long hair falling on her back in waves. "Good morning, husband," she answered in the same manner, and when her eyes found Gabriel’s, he appeared mesmerized.
"I never slept a wink," he lied making Elena’s face turn to a worried one. He had to admit he liked the way she switched faces.
"Why? Is something bothering you?" She asked innocently, her blue eyes lighting like a bunny’s.
"How could I bring myself when an angel was lying beside me? I spent every waking second admiring her face, in the darkness and in the light."
Elena searched his eyes but she could no longer keep with his piercing gaze. Instead, she looked at her hands, her cheeks instantly flushing pink.
Gabriel smiled victoriously. At such a rate, it’d only be a matter of days before she started begging him for the slightest of his touches. A smirk curved up his face. Next, he had to take her out.
"And speaking of spending time with you, I organized a breakfast for my special bunny. Get dressed. I’ll be waiting for you outside."
She lifted her eyes to meet his, and in this span of an opportunity, Gabriel flashed his unruffled smile which he noticed had an effect on her. And it worked wonders. She couldn’t bring herself to stare at him for a second longer, casting her gaze everywhere else but him.
Elena heard him stand before he walked out of the room. She looked at the closed doors, instantly fleeing towards the mirror the moment she was certain Gabriel was not close. The person staring back at her looked flushed, like a little child over showered with love. Her hands settled on her pink cheeks pinching them as if that would take away the blush in them. Instead, she ended up making them more pink!
"Argh!" She was frustrated with herself. His cute yet annoying smile was the cause of all of it! Why the hell would a simple smile have so much effect on her?
A knock sounded on the door at the same time breaking Elena from her line of thought. She looked at that direction, and after smoothening her fabric, she announced, "Come in."
Jophiel stepped into the room, a set of fresh clothes in her hands. She halted on the door on noticing the blush that Elena was trying so much to hide.
"My Lady," she greeted before walking over to the bed and placing the clothes there. A quick glance at the sheets was all it took for her to know nothing had happened between her and Gabriel last night, and it alarmed her. It was already close to two weeks now after the princess had arrived yet she still remained a maiden.
Pushing the matter to the back of her mind, she walked over and took a sit before placing it behind Elena. Elena took it as a cue before she sat, staring back at her own reflection.
Jophiel picked a comb and gathered strands of her hair, gently running the comb through them. She was silent all the while apart from the furtive glances she threw at the princess. Occasionally, Elena would catch her staring in the mirror, and her silence was particularly eerie today.
"Jophiel?" She called, catching the maid’s attention. "You can say it if you want."
"I have nothing to say My Lady," she said resuming her work.
Elena was still persistent. "I don’t want you to feel limited to talk to me just because I am a lady. You’re the only friend I have around here Jophiel, and friends hide nothing from each other."
Jophiel paused in her actions, the words from Elena sinking in. "I didn’t know you valued me highly My Lady." She continued, contemplating if she’d say it or not. And pausing her actions once again, "If I might speak truthfully..."
Their eyes met in the mirror before she busied herself again with Elena’s hair. "Gabriel is a good man. But I think he’d make a great father." She looked at Elena across the mirror before walking over to the nightstand.
Elena stared at herself, the words Jophiel had just said to her making her heart race. Truly, Gabriel was a good man indeed, despite everything he’d gone through. She imagined him holding a child of his own, a smile lighting up her face. A smile that was quick to disappear as fast as it had appeared.
Instead of fulfilling her duties as a wife, what was she doing instead? Pushing Gabriel far away from her when he wanted to be close. Maybe she was selfish after all.
"Help me dress," she said, her eyes still fixated on her image in the mirror.
