Chapter 120: Nirvana

"Just got you exactly where I wanted, brother." Brandon smirked as he watched Gabriel being surrounded.

"Bring my sword," he instructed, his eyes locked on Gabriel. Just a stab in the heart and he was done with it, or at least what he thought.

"I can’t put the life of my king in danger," Tieron replied, earning a sharp gaze from Brandon.

"I didn’t make you a general to question my decisions," Brandon said before turning towards the knights behind him. "My bloody sword!" He hissed in exasperation.

A knight placed a golden one in his hands. When drawn, its surface glimmered in the sun, a reflection of Brandon’s cruel eyes cast on its shiny surface.

"Attack on my signal," he instructed the remaining knights.

Tieron let out a sigh of relief internally. Initially, he had thought Brandon was going to do something stupid.

Back on the battleground, Gabriel’s moves were gracefully. He didn’t strike twice at the same opponent. His hair was still in position, not a single bead of sweat visible on his face. The vampires fell behind him with each step he took. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Brandon, on seeing this, lost cool from his watching position. His hands held firmly on the reins, his anger slowly boiling to the surface. The battlefield, once filled with human bodies, were now a feast of crows with vampire bodies. How could he mercilessly kill his own kind?

"Hold!" Tieron said, his eyes on Brandon’s shaky hands.

"I cannot hold any longer," Brandon replied, his jaws clenched hard from suppressing to give the attack. Gabriel chopped off another head making Brandon to lose his patience, a virtue he didn’t have in the first place.

"Kill the bastard!" He commanded and raced towards the battleground. The other vampires rode behind him or leapt, raising a cloud of dust in their trail.

Gabriel had just finished killing the first batch of vampires when he saw another hoard approaching, this one on horseback! Looking back towards the gates, the human army was retreating back into the city leaving only him in the battlefield.

’To imagine I’m fighting their war,’ he chuckled darkly, his eyes lowered to the ground. This was no surprise. He had seen the greed and selfishness of the race full hand.

He raised his eyes at the approaching hoard. The crowd of dust they raised made them even fiercer. Brandon’s eyes were intent on killing and he’d stop at nothing to see Gabriel’s head separated from his body.

’Is this it?’ He thought, ’Is this where I die?’

If he had to die, then it had to be the honorable way; while fighting. He gripped his sword tightly and stood in a fighting stance. The hooves of the horses grew louder, so crowded he’d be stumbled upon when they reached where he was. And they were closer!

Gabriel inhaled the scent of blood thick in the air bracing himself for his fate. The horses were close enough now. He swung his sword with all his might, his eyes closed in a battle cry.

By now, he’d expected to be run through by the horses, crushed and reduced to nothing but a pile of bones. Instead, there was no pain, just silence! Was this nirvana?

His ears were alert. There was no horse hooves around, no sound of swords clashing. He forced his eyes open to find himself in a completely different place!

He turned around to see a face he least expected. With a mixture of surprise and awe, he dropped his sword to the ground and approached her, his heart racing in his chest.

"El?" He called, taking her face into his cold hands. It felt surreal! Were they dead? What was this place?

"Where are we?" He asked, looking around in confusion. The place had many tall trees that built a beautiful canopy above them. The leaves on the ground were pink, yet green on the trees.

"I didn’t know how but I sensed you were in danger. I took you from the battlefield and brought you to a safe place."

She spotted a drop of blood on his cheeks. "Are you hurt?" She asked. Reaching out to touch his face, she wiped the drop off with her thumb.

"How did you do it?" Gabriel asked, catching her retreating arms. "How did you bring us here?"

Casting her eyes to the ground, she replied, "Since the moment your mother brought me back, I’ve been having this surge of power within me. I didn’t realize what it was until today."

She looked up to meet with his golden eyes. "I can feel you...us."

Gabriel’s brows creased before he took a step back. The last thing he wanted was for Elena to share the pain he held within him. It was too much a burden to carry, even for himself. And as if that was not enough torture, his mother came back in his life, a constant reminder of the pain he’d so much tried to hide.

"It’s a good thing," she said, taking a step forward. Her eyes never left his before she softly caressed his face. A smile crossed her lips temporarily before she moved in to kiss him.

There was something off with her kiss. Elena wasn’t an aggressive kisser. She’d softly kiss Gabriel before letting him take the lead. But this version of her, she knocked the air out of Gabriel’s lungs, her tongue claiming every inch of his mouth.

Her hands flew to the back of his head to disorient his hair. Gabriel hands still rested by his sides, surprised by the sudden turn of events. But not for long!

He gave in, reciprocating the kiss until they were both breathless. The thought of the ongoing battle crossed his mind before he pushed her softly to break the kiss.

"The humans... They need our help," he said picking up his sword. "Can you take us back?"

She looked reluctant at the suggestion. "They left you for death in the battlefield and you still want to fight for them?" She asked.

Gabriel’s brows furrowed. "They’re your people, however bad they are, and you, their queen!" Gabriel could have sworn he saw lines of confusion form on her face, a thought he was quick to discard when she nodded.
